Ish-bosheth Put to Death

1 Then [fn]Ish-bosheth, Saul’s ^H7586 son ^H1121 heard ^H8085 that Abner ^H74 had died ^H4191 in Hebron ^H2275. And [fn]he lost ^H7503 courage ^H3027 H7503, and all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 was dismayed ^H926.

2 Now Saul’s ^H7586 son ^H1121 had two ^H8147 men ^H376 who were commanders ^H8269 of bands ^H1416: the name ^H8034 of the one ^H259 was Baanah ^H1196 and the name ^H8034 of the other ^H8145 Rechab ^H7394, sons ^H1121 of Rimmon ^H7417 the Beerothite ^H886, of the sons ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 (for Beeroth ^H881 is also ^H1571 considered ^H2803 part of Benjamin ^H1144, 3 and the Beerothites ^H886 fled ^H1272 to Gittaim ^H1664 and have been ^H1961 sojourners ^H1481 there ^H8033 until ^H5704 this ^H2088 day ^H3117).

9 And David ^H1732 answered ^H6030 Rechab ^H7394 and Baanah ^H1196 his brother ^H251, sons ^H1121 of Rimmon ^H7417 the Beerothite ^H886, and said ^H559 to them, “As Yahweh ^H3068 lives ^H2416, who ^H834 has redeemed ^H6299 my life ^H5315 from all ^H3605 distress ^H6869, 10 when ^H3588 one told ^H5046 me, saying ^H559, ‘Behold ^H2009, Saul ^H7586 is dead ^H4191,’ and [fn]thought ^H5869 he was bringing ^H1319 good ^H1319 news ^H1319, I seized ^H270 him and killed ^H2026 him in Ziklag ^H6860, which ^H834 was the reward ^H1309 I gave ^H5414 him for ^H1309 his news ^H1309. 11 How ^H637 much ^H637 H3588 more ^H637 H3588, when ^H3588 wicked ^H7563 men ^H376 have killed ^H2026 a righteous ^H6662 man ^H376 in his own house ^H1004 on his bed ^H4904, shall I not now ^H6258 require ^H1245 his blood ^H1818 from your hand ^H3027 and purge ^H1197 you from the earth ^H776?” 12 Then David ^H1732 commanded ^H6680 the young ^H5288 men ^H5288, and they killed ^H2026 them and cut ^H7112 off ^H7112 their hands ^H3027 and feet ^H7272 and hung ^H8518 them up ^H8518 beside ^H5921 the pool ^H1295 in Hebron ^H2275. But they took ^H3947 the head ^H7218 of Ish-bosheth ^H378 and buried ^H6912 it in the grave ^H6913 of Abner ^H74 in Hebron ^H2275.
