The Vision of the Ram and Goat

1 In the third ^H7969 year ^H8141 of the reign ^H4438 of Belshazzar ^H1112 the king ^H4428, a vision ^H2377 appeared ^H7200 to me, [fn]Daniel ^H1840, after ^H310 the one which appeared ^H7200 to me [fn]previously ^H8462.

2 And I looked ^H7200 in the vision ^H2377. And it happened that while I was looking ^H7200, I was in the citadel ^H1002 of Susa ^H7800, which ^H834 is in the province ^H4082 of Elam ^H5867; and I looked ^H7200 in the vision ^H2377, and I myself ^H589 was beside ^H5921 the Ulai ^H195 [fn]Canal ^H180. 3 Then I lifted ^H5375 my eyes ^H5869 and looked ^H7200, and behold ^H2009, a ram ^H352 which had two horns ^H7161 was standing ^H5975 in front ^H6440 of the [fn]canal ^H180. Now the two horns ^H7161 were [fn]long ^H1364, but one ^H259 was [fn]longer ^H1364 than ^H4480 the other ^H8145, with the [fn]longer ^H1364 one ^H1364 coming ^H5927 up ^H5927 last ^H314. 4 I saw ^H7200 the ram ^H352 butting ^H5055 westward ^H3220, northward ^H6828, and southward ^H5045, and no ^H3808 other beasts ^H2416 could stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 it, nor ^H369 was ^H369 there ^H369 anyone to deliver ^H5337 from its [fn]power ^H3027, but it did ^H6213 as it pleased ^H7522 and magnified ^H1431 itself.

5 And while I was considering ^H995, behold ^H2009, a male ^H6842 goat ^H5795 was coming ^H935 from the west ^H4628 over ^H5921 the surface ^H6440 of the whole ^H3605 earth ^H776 without ^H369 touching ^H5060 the ground ^H776; and the [fn]goat ^H6842 had a conspicuous ^H2380 horn ^H7161 between ^H996 its eyes ^H5869. 6 Then it came ^H935 up to the ram ^H352 that had the two horns ^H7161, which ^H834 I had seen ^H7200 standing ^H5975 in front ^H6440 of the [fn]canal ^H180, and ran ^H7323 at it in his strong ^H3581 wrath ^H2534. 7 And I saw ^H7200 it reach ^H5060 the side ^H681 of the ram ^H352, and it was ^H4843 enraged ^H4843 at it; and it struck ^H5221 the ram ^H352 and broke ^H7665 its two ^H8147 horns ^H7161 in ^H7665 pieces ^H8147, and the ram ^H352 had ^H1961 no ^H3808 strength ^H3581 to stand ^H5975 in [fn]opposition ^H6440 to it. So it threw ^H7993 it down ^H7993 to the ground ^H776 and trampled ^H7429 on ^H7429 it, and there was none ^H3808 to deliver ^H5337 the ram ^H352 from its [fn]power ^H3027. 8 Then the male ^H6842 goat ^H5795 magnified ^H1431 itself exceedingly ^H5704 H3966. But as soon as it was mighty ^H6105, the large ^H1419 horn ^H7161 was broken ^H7665; and in ^H8478 its place ^H8478 there came ^H5927 up ^H5927 four ^H702 conspicuous ^H2380 horns toward the four ^H702 winds ^H7307 of [fn]heaven ^H8064.

The Small Horn

9 And out of one ^H259 of them came ^H3318 forth ^H3318 a rather small ^H6810 horn ^H7161. And it grew ^H1431 exceedingly ^H3499 great ^H1431 toward ^H413 the south ^H5045, toward ^H413 the east ^H4217, and toward ^H413 the [fn]Beautiful ^H6643 Land.

10 Then it grew ^H1431 up ^H1431 to the host ^H6635 of heaven ^H8064 and caused some ^H4480 of the host ^H6635 and some ^H4480 of the stars ^H3556 to fall ^H5307 to the earth ^H776, and it trampled ^H7429 them down ^H7429. 11 And it even magnified ^H1431 itself [fn]to be equal ^H5704 with the [fn]Commander ^H8269 of the host ^H6635; and it removed ^H7311 the regular ^H8548 sacrifice ^H8548 from Him, and the place ^H4349 of His sanctuary ^H4720 was thrown ^H7993 down ^H7993. 12 And on account of transgression ^H6588 the host ^H6635 will be given ^H5414 over to the horn along ^H5921 with ^H5921 the regular ^H8548 sacrifice ^H8548; and it will throw ^H7993 truth ^H571 down ^H7993 to the ground ^H776 and do ^H6213 its will and succeed ^H6743. 13 Then I heard ^H8085 a holy ^H6918 one ^H6918 speaking ^H1696, and another ^H259 holy ^H6918 one ^H6918 said ^H559 to that particular ^H6423 one ^H6423 who was speaking ^H1696, “How ^H4970 long ^H5704 H4970 will the vision ^H2377 about the regular ^H8548 sacrifice ^H8548 apply, [fn]while the transgression ^H6588 causes ^H8074 desolation ^H8074, so as to allow ^H5414 both the holy ^H6944 place and the host ^H6635 [fn]to be trampled ^H4823?” 14 He said ^H559 to me, “For 2,300 ^{H505 H7969 H3967} evenings ^H6153 and mornings ^H1242; then the holy ^H6944 place will be [fn]made ^H6663 righteous ^H6663.”

Daniel Seeks to Understand the Vision

15 Now it happened when I, Daniel ^H1840, had seen ^H7200 the vision ^H2377, that I sought ^H1245 [fn]to understand ^H998 it; and behold ^H2009, standing ^H5975 before ^H5048 me was one [fn]who ^H4758 had the appearance ^H4758 of a man ^H1397.

16 And I heard ^H8085 the voice ^H6963 of a man ^H120 between ^H996 the banks of Ulai ^H195, and he called ^H7121 out ^H7121 and said ^H559, “Gabriel ^H1403, give ^H995 this ^H1975 man an understanding ^H995 of what ^H4758 has appeared ^H4758.” 17 So he came ^H935 near ^H681 to where ^H5977 I was standing ^H5977, and when he came ^H935 I was terrified ^H1204 and fell ^H5307 on my face ^H6440; but he said ^H559 to me, “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, understand ^H995 that the vision ^H2377 pertains to the time ^H6256 of the end ^H7093.”

18 Now while he was talking ^H1696 with me, I sank ^H7290 into a deep ^H7290 sleep ^H7290 with my face ^H6440 to the ground ^H776; but he touched ^H5060 me and made me stand ^H5975 [fn]upright ^H5921 H5977. 19 Then he said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, I am going to let you know ^H3045 what ^H834 will happen ^H1961 at the final ^H319 period ^H319 of the indignation ^H2195, for it pertains to the appointed ^H4150 time ^H4150 of the end ^H7093. 20 The ram ^H352 which ^H834 you saw ^H7200 with the two horns ^H7161 is the kings ^H4428 of Media ^H4074 and Persia ^H6539. 21 Now the shaggy ^H8163 [fn]goat ^H5795 is the [fn]king ^H4428 of Greece ^H3120, and the large ^H1419 horn ^H7161 that is between ^H996 his eyes ^H5869 is the first ^H7223 king ^H4428. 22 And the broken ^H7665 horn and the four ^H702 horns that stood ^H5975 in ^H8478 its place ^H8478 are four ^H702 kingdoms ^H4438 which will take their stand ^H5975 from his nation ^H1471, although not with his power ^H3581.

23 “In the latter ^H319 period ^H319 of their [fn]reign ^H4438,

When the transgressors ^H6586 have [fn]run ^H8552 their course,

A king ^H4428 will stand ^H5975,

[fn]Insolent ^H5794 H6440 and skilled ^H995 in [fn]intrigue ^H2420.

24 “His power ^H3581 will be ^H6105 mighty ^H6105, but not by his own power ^H3581,

And he will [fn]destroy ^H7843 to ^H6381 an ^H6381 [fn]astonishing ^H6381 degree ^H6381

And succeed ^H6743 and do ^H6213 his will;

He will [fn]destroy ^H7843 mighty ^H6099 men ^H6099 and [fn]the holy ^H6918 people ^H5971.

25 “And through ^H5921 his insight ^H7922

He will cause ^H6743 deceit ^H4820 to ^H6743 succeed ^H6743 by his hand ^H3027;

And he will magnify ^H1431 himself in his heart ^H3824,

And he will [fn]destroy ^H7843 many ^H7227 while they are [fn]at ease ^H7962.

He will even stand ^H5975 against ^H5921 the Prince ^H8269 of princes ^H8269,

But he will be broken ^H7665 without ^H657 hands ^H3027.

26 “And what ^H4758 had appeared ^H4758 about the evenings ^H6153 and mornings ^H1242

Which ^H834 has been told ^H559 is true ^H571;

But as for you, conceal ^H5640 the vision ^H2377,

For it pertains to many ^H7227 days ^H3117 in the future.”

27 Then I, Daniel ^H1840, was [fn]exhausted ^H1961 and sick ^H2470 for days ^H3117. Then I rose ^H6965 up ^H6965 again and did ^H6213 the king’s ^H4428 work ^H4399; but I was ^H8074 appalled ^H8074 at what ^H4758 had appeared ^H4758, and there ^H369 was ^H369 none ^H369 to make me understand ^H995 it.
