Sanctifying the Firstborn

1 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, saying ^H559,

2 “Sanctify ^H6942 to Me every ^H3605 firstborn ^H1060, the first ^H6363 [fn]offspring ^H6363 of every ^H3605 womb ^H7358 among the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, both of man ^H120 and beast ^H929; it belongs to Me.”

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

3 And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to the people ^H5971, “Remember ^H2142 this ^H2088 day ^H3117 in which ^H834 you went ^H3318 out ^H3318 from Egypt ^H4714, from the house ^H1004 of [fn]slavery ^H5650; for by a strong ^H2392 hand ^H3027 Yahweh ^H3068 brought ^H3318 you out ^H3318 from this ^H2088 place. And nothing ^H3808 leavened ^H2557 shall be eaten ^H398.

11 “And it will be when ^H3588 Yahweh ^H3068 brings ^H935 you to the land ^H776 of the Canaanite ^H3669, as He swore ^H7650 to you and to your fathers ^H1, and gives ^H5414 it to you, 12 and you shall [fn]devote ^H5674 to Yahweh ^H3068 the first ^H6363 [fn]offspring ^H6363 of every ^H3605 womb ^H7358 and [fn]the first ^H6363 offspring ^H6363 of every ^H3605 beast ^H929 that you own ^H1961; the males ^H2145 belong to Yahweh ^H3068. 13 But every ^H3605 first ^H6363 [fn]offspring ^H6363 of a donkey ^H2543 you shall redeem ^H6299 with a lamb ^H7716, but if ^H518 you do not redeem ^H6299 it, then you shall break ^H6202 its neck ^H6202; and every ^H3605 firstborn ^H1060 of man ^H120 among your sons ^H1121 you shall redeem ^H6299. 14 And it will be when ^H3588 your son ^H1121 asks ^H7592 you in ^H4279 time ^H4279 to ^H4279 come ^H4279, saying ^H559, ‘What ^H4100 is this ^H2088?’ then you shall say ^H559 to him, ‘With a strong ^H2392 hand ^H3027 Yahweh ^H3068 brought ^H3318 us out ^H3318 of Egypt ^H4714, from the house ^H1004 of [fn]slavery ^H5650. 15 And it happened ^H1961, when ^H3588 Pharaoh ^H6547 hardened ^H7185 his heart with ^H7185 stiffness ^H7185 about letting ^H7971 us go ^H7971, that Yahweh ^H3068 killed ^H2026 every ^H3605 firstborn ^H1060 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, both ^H4480 the firstborn ^H1060 of man ^H120 and the firstborn ^H1060 of beast ^H929. Pillars of Cloud and Fire

17 Now it happened that when Pharaoh ^H6547 had let ^H7971 the people ^H5971 go ^H7971, God ^H430 did not guide ^H5148 them by the way ^H1870 of the land ^H776 of the Philistines ^H6430, even ^H3588 though ^H3588 it was near ^H7138; for God ^H430 said ^H559, “Lest ^H6435 the people ^H5971 change ^H5162 their minds ^H5162 when they see ^H7200 war ^H4421, and return ^H7725 to Egypt ^H4714.”
