God Calls Moses at the Burning Bush

1 Now Moses ^H4872 was pasturing ^H7462 the flock ^H6629 of Jethro ^H3503 his father-in-law ^H2859, the priest ^H3548 of Midian ^H4080; and he led ^H5090 the flock ^H6629 to the [fn]west ^H310 side ^H310 of the wilderness ^H4057 and came ^H935 to Horeb ^H2722, the mountain ^H2022 of God ^H430.

2 And the angel ^H4397 of [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 appeared ^H7200 to him in a blazing ^H3852 fire ^H784 from the midst ^H8432 of the bush ^H5572; and he looked ^H7200, and behold ^H2009, the bush ^H5572 was burning ^H1197 with fire ^H784, yet the bush ^H5572 was not consumed ^H398. 3 So Moses ^H4872 said ^H559, “[fn]I must turn ^H5493 aside ^H5493 now ^H4994 and see ^H7200 this ^H2088 [fn]marvelous ^H1419 sight ^H4758. Why ^H4069 is the bush ^H5572 not burned ^H1197 up ^H1197?” 4 And Yahweh ^H3068 saw ^H7200 that he turned ^H5493 aside ^H5493 to look ^H7200, so God ^H430 called ^H7121 to him from the midst ^H8432 of the bush ^H5572 and said ^H559, “Moses ^H4872, Moses ^H4872!” And he said ^H559, “Here ^H2009 I am.” 5 Then He said ^H559, “Do not come ^H7126 near ^H7126 here ^H1988. Remove ^H5394 your sandals ^H5275 from your feet ^H7272, for the place ^H4725 on which ^H834 you are standing ^H5975 is holy ^H6944 ground ^H127.” 6 He said ^H559 also, “I am the God ^H430 of your father ^H1, the God ^H430 of Abraham ^H85, the God ^H430 of Isaac ^H3327, and the God ^H430 of Jacob ^H3290.” Then Moses ^H4872 hid ^H5641 his face ^H6440, for he was ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 to look ^H5027 at God ^H430.

7 And Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559, “I have surely ^H7200 seen ^H7200 the affliction ^H6040 of My people ^H5971 who ^H834 are in Egypt ^H4714, and I have heard ^H8085 their cry ^H6818 because ^H4480 H6440 of their taskmasters ^H5065, for I know ^H3045 their sufferings ^H4341. 8 So I have come ^H3381 down ^H3381 to deliver ^H5337 them from the hand ^H3027 of the Egyptians ^H4714 and to bring ^H5927 them up ^H5927 from that land ^H776 to a good ^H2896 and spacious ^H7342 land ^H776, to a land ^H776 flowing ^H2100 with milk ^H2461 and honey ^H1706, to the place ^H4725 of the Canaanite ^H3669 and the Hittite ^H2850 and the Amorite ^H567 and the Perizzite ^H6522 and the Hivite ^H2340 and the Jebusite ^H2983. 9 So now ^H6258, behold ^H2009, the cry ^H6818 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 has come ^H935 to Me; and I have also ^H1571 seen ^H7200 the oppression ^H3906 with which ^H834 the Egyptians ^H4714 are oppressing ^H3905 them. 10 So now ^H6258, come ^H1980 and I will send ^H7971 you to Pharaoh ^H6547, and so you shall bring ^H3318 My people ^H5971, the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, out ^H3318 of Egypt ^H4714.” 11 But Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to God ^H430, “Who ^H4310 am I, that I should go ^H1980 to Pharaoh ^H6547, and that I should bring ^H3318 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 out ^H3318 of Egypt ^H4714?” 12 And He said ^H559, “Certainly ^H3588 I will be with you, and this ^H2088 shall be the sign ^H226 to you that it is I who have sent ^H7971 you: when you have brought ^H3318 the people ^H5971 out ^H3318 of Egypt ^H4714, you shall [fn]serve ^H5647 God ^H430 at this ^H2088 mountain ^H2022.”

13 Then Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to God ^H430, “Behold ^H2009, I am about ^H935 to come ^H935 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, and I will say ^H559 to them, ‘The God ^H430 of your fathers ^H1 has sent ^H7971 me to you.’ And they will say ^H559 to me, ‘What ^H4100 is His name ^H8034?’ What ^H4100 shall I say ^H559 to them?” 14 And God ^H430 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “[fn]I AM ^H1961 WHO ^H834 [fn]I AM ^H1961”; and He said ^H559, “Thus ^H3541 you shall say ^H559 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, ‘[fn]I AM ^H1961 has sent ^H7971 me to you.’” 15 And God ^H430 furthermore ^H5750 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Thus ^H3541 you shall say ^H559 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, ‘Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of your fathers ^H1, the God ^H430 of Abraham ^H85, the God ^H430 of Isaac ^H3327, and the God ^H430 of Jacob ^H3290, has sent ^H7971 me to you.’ This ^H2088 is My name ^H8034 forever ^H5769, and this ^H2088 is My memorial-name ^H2143 from generation ^H1755 to ^H1755 generation ^H1755. 16 Go ^H1980 and gather ^H622 the elders ^H2205 of Israel ^H3478 together and say ^H559 to them, ‘Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of your fathers ^H1, the God ^H430 of Abraham ^H85, Isaac ^H3327, and Jacob ^H3290, has appeared ^H7200 to me, saying ^H559, “[fn]I indeed ^H6485 care ^H6485 about you and what has been done ^H6213 to you in Egypt ^H4714. 17 So I said ^H559, I will bring ^H5927 you up ^H5927 out of the affliction ^H6040 of Egypt ^H4714 to the land ^H776 of the Canaanite ^H3669 and the Hittite ^H2850 and the Amorite ^H567 and the Perizzite ^H6522 and the Hivite ^H2340 and the Jebusite ^H2983, to a land ^H776 flowing ^H2100 with milk ^H2461 and honey ^H1706.”’ 18 And they will listen ^H8085 to your voice ^H6963; and you with the elders ^H2205 of Israel ^H3478 will come ^H935 to the king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714, and you all will say ^H559 to him, ‘Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of the Hebrews ^H5680, has met ^H7136 with us. So now ^H6258, please ^H4994, let us go ^H1980 a three ^H7969 days’ ^H3117 journey ^H1870 into the wilderness ^H4057, that we may sacrifice ^H2076 to Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430.’ 19 But I know ^H3045 that the king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714 will not give ^H5414 you permission to go ^H1980, except ^H3808 by a strong ^H2389 hand ^H3027. 20 So I will stretch ^H7971 out ^H7971 My hand ^H3027 and strike ^H5221 Egypt ^H4714 with all ^H3605 My wondrous ^H6381 deeds ^H6381 which ^H834 I shall do ^H6213 in the midst ^H7130 of it; and after ^H310 that he will let you go ^H7971. 21 And I will give ^H5414 this ^H2088 people ^H5971 favor ^H2580 in the sight ^H5869 of the Egyptians ^H4714; and it shall be that when you go ^H1980, you will not go ^H1980 empty ^H7387. 22 But every woman ^H802 shall ask ^H7592 of her neighbor ^H7934 and of the woman who lives ^H1481 in her house ^H1004, for articles ^H3627 of silver ^H3701 and articles ^H3627 of gold ^H2091, and clothing ^H8071; and you will put ^H7760 them on your sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323. Thus you will plunder ^H5337 the Egyptians ^H4714.”
