Moses and the Tent of Meeting

1 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, “Go ^H1980! Go ^H5927 up ^H5927 from here ^H2088, you and the people ^H5971 whom ^H834 you have brought ^H5927 up ^H5927 from the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, to the land ^H776 of which ^H834 I swore ^H7650 to Abraham ^H85, to Isaac ^H3327, and to Jacob ^H3290, saying ^H559, ‘To your seed ^H2233 I will give ^H5414 it.’

2 And I will send ^H7971 an angel ^H4397 before ^H6440 you, and I will drive ^H1644 out ^H1644 the Canaanite ^H3669, the Amorite ^H567, the Hittite ^H2850, the Perizzite ^H6522, the Hivite ^H2340, and the Jebusite ^H2983. 3 Go up to a land ^H776 flowing ^H2100 with milk ^H2461 and honey ^H1706; for I will not go ^H5927 up ^H5927 in your midst ^H7130 because ^H3588 you are a stiff-necked ^H7186 H6203 people ^H5971, lest ^H6435 I consume ^H3615 you on the way ^H1870.”

4 Then the people ^H5971 heard ^H8085 this ^H2088 [fn]sad ^H7451 word ^H1697 and went ^H56 into ^H56 mourning ^H56; and none ^H3808 H376 of them put ^H7896 on his ornaments ^H5716. 5 So Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Say ^H559 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, ‘You are a stiff-necked ^H7186 H6203 people ^H5971; should I go ^H5927 up ^H5927 in your midst ^H7130 for one ^H259 moment ^H7281, I would consume ^H3615 you. So now ^H6258, put ^H3381 off ^H3381 your ornaments ^H5716 from you, that I may know ^H3045 what ^H4100 I shall do ^H6213 with you.’” 6 So the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 stripped ^H5337 themselves of their ornaments ^H5716, from Mount ^H2022 Horeb ^H2722 onward.

7 Now Moses ^H4872 used to take ^H3947 the tent ^H168 and pitch ^H5186 it outside ^H4480 H2351 the camp ^H4264, a good ^H7368 distance ^H7368 from the camp ^H4264, and he called ^H7121 it the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150. And everyone ^H3605 who sought ^H1245 Yahweh ^H3068 would go ^H3318 out ^H3318 to the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150 which ^H834 was outside ^H4480 H2351 the camp ^H4264. 8 And it happened ^H1961 whenever Moses ^H4872 went ^H3318 out ^H3318 to the tent ^H168, that all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 would arise ^H6965 and stand ^H5324, each ^H376 at the entrance ^H6607 of his tent ^H168, and gaze ^H5027 after ^H310 Moses ^H4872 until ^H5704 he entered ^H935 the tent ^H168. 9 And it happened whenever Moses ^H4872 entered ^H935 the tent ^H168, that the pillar ^H5982 of cloud ^H6051 would descend ^H3381 and stand ^H5975 at the entrance ^H6607 of the tent ^H168; and [fn]Yahweh would speak ^H1696 with Moses ^H4872. 10 And all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 would see ^H7200 the pillar ^H5982 of cloud ^H6051 standing ^H5975 at the entrance ^H6607 of the tent ^H168. And all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 would arise ^H6965 and worship ^H2331, each ^H376 at the entrance ^H6607 of his tent ^H168. 11 Thus Yahweh ^H3068 used to speak ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872 face ^H6440 to face ^H6440, just ^H834 as a man ^H376 speaks ^H1696 to his friend ^H7453. Then [fn]Moses would return ^H7725 to the camp ^H4264, and his attendant ^H8334 Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Nun ^H5126, a young ^H5288 man ^H5288, would not depart ^H4185 from the tent ^H168.

Moses and the Glory of Yahweh

12 Then Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to Yahweh ^H3068, “See ^H7200, You say ^H559 to me, ‘Bring ^H5927 up ^H5927 this ^H2088 people ^H5971!’ But You Yourself ^H859 have not let me know ^H3045 whom ^H834 You will send ^H7971 with me. Moreover, You have said ^H559, ‘I have known ^H3045 you by name ^H8034, and you have also ^H1571 found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in My sight ^H5869.’

13 So now ^H6258, I pray ^H4994 You, if ^H518 I have found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in Your sight ^H5869, let me know ^H3045 Your ways ^H1870 that I may know ^H3045 You, so ^H4616 that I may find ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in Your sight ^H5869. See ^H7200 also, that this ^H2088 nation ^H1471 is Your people ^H5971.” 14 And He said ^H559, “My presence ^H6440 shall go ^H1980 with you, and I will give ^H5117 you rest ^H5117.” 15 Then he said ^H559 to Him, “If ^H518 Your presence ^H6440 does not go ^H1980 with us, do not lead ^H5927 us up ^H5927 from here ^H2088. 16 Indeed, how ^H4100 then ^H645 can it be known ^H3045 that I have found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in Your sight ^H5869, I and Your people ^H5971? Is it not by Your going ^H1980 with us, so that we, I and Your people ^H5971, may be distinguished ^H6395 from all ^H3605 the other people ^H5971 who ^H834 are upon the face ^H6440 of the [fn]earth ^H127?”

17 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “I will also ^H1571 do ^H6213 this ^H2088 thing ^H1697 of which ^H834 you have spoken ^H1696; for you have found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in My sight ^H5869, and I have known ^H3045 you by name ^H8034.” 18 Then [fn]Moses said ^H559, “I pray ^H4994 You, show ^H7200 me Your glory ^H3519!” 19 And He said ^H559, “I Myself ^H589 will make all ^H3605 My goodness ^H2898 pass ^H5674 before ^H5921 H6440 you, and I will proclaim ^H7121 the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068 before ^H6440 you; and I will be ^H2603 gracious ^H2603 to whom ^H834 I will be ^H2603 gracious ^H2603, and I will show ^H7355 compassion ^H7355 on whom ^H834 I will show ^H7355 compassion ^H7355.” 20 But He said ^H559, “You cannot ^H3201 H3808 see ^H7200 My face ^H6440, for no ^H3808 man ^H120 can see ^H7200 Me and live ^H2421!” 21 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, there is a place ^H4725 [fn]by Me, and you shall stand ^H5324 there on the rock ^H6697; 22 and it will come ^H1961 about ^H1961, while My glory ^H3519 is passing ^H5674 by ^H5674, that I will put ^H7760 you in the cleft ^H5366 of the rock ^H6697 and cover ^H5526 you with My hand ^H3709 until ^H5704 I have passed ^H5674 by ^H5674. 23 Then I will remove ^H5493 My hand ^H3709, and you shall see ^H7200 My back ^H268, but My face ^H6440 shall not be seen ^H7200.”
