Stone Tablets like the Former Ones

1 Now Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Carve ^H6458 out ^H6458 for yourself two ^H8147 stone ^H68 tablets ^H3871 like the former ^H7223 ones ^H7223, and I will write ^H3789 on the tablets ^H3871 the words ^H1697 that were on the former ^H7223 tablets ^H3871 which ^H834 you shattered ^H7665.

2 So be prepared ^H3559 by morning ^H1242, and come ^H5927 up ^H5927 in the morning ^H1242 to Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514, and [fn]present ^H5324 yourself there ^H8033 to Me on the top ^H7218 of the mountain ^H2022. 3 And no ^H3808 man ^H376 is to come ^H5927 up ^H5927 with you, nor ^H408 let any ^H1571 man ^H376 be seen ^H7200 [fn]anywhere ^H3605 on the mountain ^H2022; even ^H1571 the flocks ^H6629 and the herds ^H1241 may not graze ^H7462 in front ^H4136 of that mountain ^H2022.” 4 So he carved ^H6458 out ^H6458 two ^H8147 stone ^H68 tablets ^H3871 like the former ^H7223 ones ^H7223, and Moses ^H4872 rose ^H7925 up ^H7925 early ^H7925 in the morning ^H1242 and went ^H5927 up ^H5927 to Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514, as Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680 him, and he took ^H3947 two ^H8147 stone ^H68 tablets ^H3871 in his hand ^H3027. 5 Then Yahweh ^H3068 descended ^H3381 in the cloud ^H6051 and stood ^H3320 there ^H8033 with him, and [fn]He called ^H7121 upon the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068. 6 Then Yahweh ^H3068 passed ^H5674 by ^H5674 in front ^H6440 of him and called ^H7121 out ^H7121, “Yahweh ^H3068, Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H410, compassionate ^H7349 and gracious ^H2587, slow ^H750 to anger ^H639, and abounding ^H7227 in lovingkindness ^H2617 and [fn]truth ^H571; 7 who keeps ^H5341 lovingkindness ^H2617 for thousands ^H505, who forgives ^H5375 iniquity ^H5771, transgression ^H6588, and sin ^H2403; yet He will by ^H5352 no ^H3808 means ^H5352 leave ^H5352 the guilty unpunished ^H5352, visiting ^H6485 the iniquity ^H5771 of fathers ^H1 on the children ^H1121 and on the grandchildren ^H1121 to the third ^H8029 and fourth ^H7256 generations.” 8 And Moses ^H4872 made ^H4116 haste ^H4116 [fn]to bow ^H6915 low ^H6915 toward ^H413 the earth ^H776 and worship ^H2331. 9 And he said ^H559, “If ^H518 now ^H4994 I have found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in Your sight ^H5869, O Lord ^H136, I pray ^H4994, let the Lord ^H136 go ^H1980 along in our midst ^H7130, even ^H3588 though ^H3588 [fn]they are a stiff-necked ^H7186 H6203 people ^H5971, and pardon ^H5545 our iniquity ^H5771 and our sin ^H2403, and take ^H5157 us as ^H5157 Your own inheritance ^H5157.”

Yahweh Cuts a Covenant with Israel

10 Then [fn]God said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, I am going to cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285. Before ^H5048 all ^H3605 your people ^H5971 I will do ^H6213 wondrous ^H6381 deeds ^H6381 which ^H834 have not been created ^H1254 in all ^H3605 the earth ^H776 nor ^H3808 among any ^H3605 of the nations ^H1471; and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 [fn]among ^H7130 whom ^H834 you live will see ^H7200 the working ^H4639 of Yahweh ^H3068, for it is a fearful ^H3372 thing ^H3372 that I am going to do ^H6213 with you.

11 “[fn]Be sure to keep ^H8104 what ^H834 I am commanding ^H6680 you this day ^H3117: behold ^H2009, I am going to drive ^H1644 out ^H1644 the Amorite ^H567 before ^H4480 H6440 you, and the Canaanite ^H3669, the Hittite ^H2850, the Perizzite ^H6522, the Hivite ^H2340, and the Jebusite ^H2983.

12 Beware ^H8104 lest ^H6435 you cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 with the inhabitants ^H3427 of the land ^H776 into which ^H834 you are going ^H935, lest ^H6435 it become ^H1961 a snare ^H4170 in your midst ^H7130. 13 But rather, you are to tear ^H5422 down ^H5422 their altars ^H4196 and shatter ^H7665 their sacred pillars ^H4676 and cut ^H3772 down ^H3772 their [fn]Asherim ^H842 14 —for you shall not worship ^H2331 any ^H312 other ^H312 god ^H410, for Yahweh ^H3068, whose name ^H8034 is Jealous ^H7067, is a jealous ^H7067 God ^H410— 15 lest ^H6435 you cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 with the inhabitants ^H3427 of the land ^H776, and they play ^H2181 the ^H2181 harlot ^H2181 with their gods ^H430 and sacrifice ^H2076 to their gods ^H430, and one of them invite ^H7121 you [fn]to eat ^H398 of his sacrifice ^H2077, 16 and you take ^H3947 some ^H4480 of his daughters ^H1323 for your sons ^H1121, and his daughters ^H1323 play ^H2181 the ^H2181 harlot ^H2181 with their gods ^H430 and cause your sons ^H1121 also to play ^H2181 the ^H2181 harlot ^H2181 with their gods ^H430. 17 You shall make ^H6213 for yourself no molten ^H4541 gods ^H430.

18 “You shall keep ^H8104 the Feast ^H2282 of Unleavened ^H4682 Bread ^H4682. For seven ^H7651 days ^H3117 you shall eat ^H398 unleavened ^H4682 bread ^H4682, which I commanded ^H6680 you, at the appointed ^H4150 time ^H4150 in the month ^H2320 of Abib ^H24, for in the month ^H2320 of Abib ^H24 you came ^H3318 out ^H3318 of Egypt ^H4714.

19 “The first ^H6363 offspring ^H6363 from every ^H3605 womb ^H7358 belongs to Me, even of all ^H3605 your male ^H2145 livestock ^H4735, the first ^H6363 offspring ^H6363 from [fn]cattle ^H7794 and sheep ^H7716. 20 And you shall redeem ^H6299 with a lamb ^H7716 the [fn]first ^H6363 offspring ^H6363 from a donkey ^H2543; and if ^H518 you do not redeem ^H6299 it, then you shall break ^H6202 its neck ^H6202. You shall redeem ^H6299 all ^H3605 the firstborn ^H1060 of your sons ^H1121. [fn]None ^H3808 shall appear ^H7200 before ^H6440 Me empty-handed ^H7387.

21 “You shall work ^H5647 six ^H8337 days ^H3117, but on the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117 you shall rest ^H7673; even during plowing ^H2758 time ^H2758 and harvest ^H7105 you shall rest ^H7673. 22 And you shall celebrate ^H6213 the Feast ^H2282 of Weeks ^H7620, that is, the first ^H1061 fruits ^H1061 of the wheat ^H2406 harvest ^H7105, and the Feast ^H2282 of Ingathering ^H614 at the turn ^H8622 of the year ^H8141. 23 Three ^H7969 times ^H6471 a year ^H8141 all ^H3605 your males ^H2138 are to appear ^H7200 before ^H6440 the Lord ^H113 Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478. 24 For I will dispossess ^H3423 nations ^H1471 before ^H4480 H6440 you and enlarge ^H7337 your borders ^H1366, and no ^H3808 man ^H376 shall covet ^H2530 your land ^H776 when you go ^H5927 up ^H5927 three ^H7969 times ^H6471 a year ^H8141 to appear ^H7200 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430.

25 “You shall not [fn]offer ^H7819 the blood ^H1818 of My sacrifice ^H2077 with leavened ^H2557 bread ^H2557, and the sacrifice ^H2077 of the Feast ^H2282 of the Passover ^H6453 shall not ^H3808 [fn]be left ^H3885 over ^H3885 until morning ^H1242.

26 “You shall bring ^H935 the very first ^H7225 of the first ^H1061 fruits ^H1061 of your ground ^H127 into the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430.

“You shall not boil ^H1310 a young ^H1423 goat ^H1423 in its mother’s ^H517 milk ^H2461.”

27 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Write ^H3789 [fn]down ^H3789 these ^H428 words ^H1697, for in accordance ^H5921 H6310 with these ^H428 words ^H1697 I have cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 with you and with Israel ^H3478.” 28 So he was there ^H8033 with Yahweh ^H3068 forty ^H705 days ^H3117 and forty ^H705 nights ^H3915; he did not eat ^H398 bread ^H3899 or drink ^H8354 water ^H4325. And [fn]he wrote ^H3789 on the tablets ^H3871 the words ^H1697 of the covenant ^H1285, the Ten ^H6235 [fn]Commandments ^H1697.

The Shining Face of Moses

29 Now it happened ^H1961 when Moses ^H4872 was coming ^H3381 down ^H3381 from Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514 (and the two ^H8147 tablets ^H3871 of the testimony ^H5715 were in Moses’ ^H4872 hand ^H3027 as he was coming ^H3381 down ^H3381 from the mountain ^H2022), that Moses ^H4872 did not know ^H3045 that the skin ^H5785 of his face ^H6440 shone ^H7160 because of his speaking ^H1696 with Him.

30 Then Aaron ^H175 and all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 saw ^H7200 Moses ^H4872, and behold ^H2009, the skin ^H5785 of his face ^H6440 shone ^H7160, and they were ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 to come ^H5066 near ^H5066 him. 31 Then Moses ^H4872 called ^H7121 to them, and Aaron ^H175 and all ^H3605 the rulers ^H5387 in the congregation ^H5712 returned ^H7725 to him; and Moses ^H4872 spoke ^H1696 to them. 32 And afterward ^H310 all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 came ^H5066 near ^H5066, and he commanded ^H6680 them everything ^H3605 that Yahweh ^H3068 had spoken ^H1696 [fn]to him on Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514. 33 Then Moses ^H4872 finished ^H3615 speaking ^H1696 with them and put ^H5414 a veil ^H4533 over ^H5921 his face ^H6440. 34 But whenever Moses ^H4872 went ^H935 in ^H935 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068 to speak ^H1696 with Him, he would take ^H5493 off ^H5493 the veil ^H4533 until ^H5704 he came ^H3318 out ^H3318; and then he would come ^H3318 out ^H3318 and speak ^H1696 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 what ^H834 he had been commanded ^H6680, 35 and the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 would see ^H7200 the face ^H6440 of Moses ^H4872, that the skin ^H5785 of Moses’ ^H4872 face ^H6440 shone ^H7160. So Moses ^H4872 would return ^H7725 the veil ^H4533 over ^H5921 his face ^H6440 until ^H5704 he went ^H935 in ^H935 to speak ^H1696 with Him.
