1 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “See ^H7200, I [fn]set ^H5414 you as God ^H430 to Pharaoh ^H6547, and your brother ^H251 Aaron ^H175 shall be your prophet ^H5030. 2 You shall speak ^H1696 all ^H3605 that I command ^H6680 you, and your brother ^H251 Aaron ^H175 shall speak ^H1696 to Pharaoh ^H6547 that he let ^H7971 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 go ^H7971 out ^H7971 of his land ^H776. 3 But I will harden ^H7185 Pharaoh’s ^H6547 heart ^H3820 with stiffness ^H7185 that I may multiply ^H7235 My signs ^H226 and My [fn]wonders ^H4159 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714. 4 But Pharaoh ^H6547 will not listen ^H8085 to you. And I will [fn]set ^H5414 My hand ^H3027 upon Egypt ^H4714 and bring ^H3318 out ^H3318 My hosts ^H6635, My people ^H5971 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, from the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 by great ^H1419 judgments ^H8201. 5 Then the Egyptians ^H4714 shall know ^H3045 that I am Yahweh ^H3068, when I stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186 My hand ^H3027 against Egypt ^H4714 and bring ^H3318 out ^H3318 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 from their midst ^H8432.” 6 So Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 did ^H6213 it; as Yahweh ^H3068 commanded ^H6680 them, thus ^H3651 they did ^H6213. 7 Now Moses ^H4872 was eighty ^H8084 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 and Aaron ^H175 eighty-three ^H8084 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, when they spoke ^H1696 to Pharaoh ^H6547.

Aaron’s Staff Becomes a Serpent

8 And Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H559 to Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175, saying ^H559,

9 “When ^H3588 Pharaoh ^H6547 speaks ^H1696 to you, saying ^H559, ‘[fn]Work ^H5414 a miraculous ^H4159 wonder ^H4159,’ then you shall say ^H559 to Aaron ^H175, ‘Take ^H3947 your staff ^H4294 and throw ^H7993 it down ^H7993 before ^H6440 Pharaoh ^H6547, that it may become ^H1961 a [fn]serpent ^H8577.’” 10 So Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 came ^H935 to Pharaoh ^H6547, and thus ^H3651 they did ^H6213 just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680; and Aaron ^H175 threw ^H7993 his staff ^H4294 down ^H7993 before ^H6440 Pharaoh ^H6547 and [fn]his [fn]servants ^H5650, and it became ^H1961 a [fn]serpent ^H8577. 11 Then Pharaoh ^H6547 also ^H1571 called ^H7121 for the wise ^H2450 men ^H2450 and the sorcerers ^H3784, and they also ^H1571, the [fn]magicians ^H2748 of Egypt ^H4714, did ^H6213 [fn]the same ^H3651 with their secret ^H3909 arts ^H3909. 12 And each ^H376 one ^H376 threw ^H7993 down ^H7993 his staff ^H4294, and they became ^H1961 [fn]serpents ^H8577. But Aaron’s ^H175 staff ^H4294 swallowed ^H1104 up their staffs ^H4294. 13 Yet Pharaoh’s ^H6547 heart ^H3820 was [fn]hardened ^H2388 with strength ^H2388, and he did not listen ^H8085 to them, as Yahweh ^H3068 had spoken ^H1696.

The Plague of Water Turning to Blood

14 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Pharaoh’s ^H6547 heart ^H3820 is [fn]hard ^H3515 with firmness ^H3515; he refuses ^H3985 to let ^H7971 the people ^H5971 go ^H7971.

15 Go ^H1980 to Pharaoh ^H6547 in the morning ^H1242 [fn]as ^H2009 he is going ^H3318 out ^H3318 to the water ^H4325, and station ^H5324 yourself to meet ^H7122 him on the bank ^H8193 of the Nile ^H2975; and you shall take ^H3947 in your hand ^H3027 the staff ^H4294 that was turned ^H2015 into a serpent ^H5175. 16 And you shall say ^H559 to him, ‘Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of the Hebrews ^H5680, sent ^H7971 me to you, saying ^H559, “Let ^H7971 My people ^H5971 go ^H7971, that they may serve ^H5647 Me in the wilderness ^H4057. But behold ^H2009, you have not listened ^H8085 until ^H5704 now ^H3541.” 17 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, “By this ^H2088 you shall know ^H3045 that I am Yahweh ^H3068: behold ^H2009, I am about ^H5221 to strike ^H5221 [fn]the water ^H4325 that is in the Nile ^H2975 with the staff ^H4294 that is in my hand ^H3027, and it will be turned ^H2015 to blood ^H1818. 18 And the fish ^H1710 that are in the Nile ^H2975 will die ^H4191, and the Nile ^H2975 will [fn]become ^H887 foul ^H887, and the Egyptians ^H4714 will be ^H3811 weary ^H3811 of drinking ^H8354 water ^H4325 from the Nile ^H2975.”’” 19 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Say ^H559 to Aaron ^H175, ‘Take ^H3947 your staff ^H4294 and stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186 your hand ^H3027 over ^H5921 the waters ^H4325 of Egypt ^H4714, over ^H5921 their rivers ^H5104, over ^H5921 their [fn]streams ^H2975, and over ^H5921 their pools ^H98 and over ^H5921 all ^H3605 their reservoirs ^H4723 of water ^H4325, that they may become ^H1961 blood ^H1818; and there will be blood ^H1818 throughout all ^H3605 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, both in vessels of wood ^H6086 and in vessels of stone ^H68.’”

20 So Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 did ^H6213 thus ^H3651, as Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680. And he raised ^H7311 up ^H7311 [fn]the staff ^H4294 and struck ^H5221 the water ^H4325 that was in the Nile ^H2975, in the sight ^H5869 of Pharaoh ^H6547 and in the sight ^H5869 of his servants ^H5650, and all ^H3605 the water ^H4325 that was in the Nile ^H2975 was turned ^H2015 to blood ^H1818. 21 And the fish ^H1710 that were in the Nile ^H2975 died ^H4191, and the Nile ^H2975 [fn]became ^H887 foul ^H887, so that the Egyptians ^H4714 could ^H3201 not drink ^H8354 water ^H4325 from the Nile ^H2975. And the blood ^H1818 was through all ^H3605 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714. 22 Yet the [fn]magicians ^H2748 of Egypt ^H4714 did ^H6213 [fn]the same ^H3651 with their secret ^H3909 arts ^H3909; and Pharaoh’s ^H6547 heart ^H3820 was [fn]hardened ^H2388 with strength ^H2388, and he did not listen ^H8085 to them, as Yahweh ^H3068 had spoken ^H1696. 23 Then Pharaoh ^H6547 turned ^H6437 and went ^H935 into his house ^H1004, and he did not ^H3808 set ^H7896 his heart ^H3820 even ^H1571 on this ^H2088. 24 So all ^H3605 the Egyptians ^H4714 dug ^H2658 around ^H5439 the Nile ^H2975 for water ^H4325 to drink ^H8354, for they could ^H3201 not drink ^H8354 of the water ^H4325 of the Nile ^H2975. 25 And seven ^H7651 full days ^H3117 [fn]passed ^H4390 after ^H310 Yahweh ^H3068 had struck ^H5221 the Nile ^H2975.
