The Tower of Babel

1 Now the whole ^H3605 earth ^H776 [fn]had ^H1961 the same ^H259 language ^H8193 and [fn]the same ^H259 words ^H1697.

2 And it happened ^H1961 as they journeyed ^H5265 east ^H6924, that they found ^H4672 a plain ^H1237 in the land ^H776 of Shinar ^H8152 and [fn]settled ^H3427 there ^H8033. 3 Then they said ^H559 to one ^H376 another ^H7453, “Come ^H3051, let us make ^H3835 bricks ^H3835 and burn ^H8313 them thoroughly ^H8316.” And they had ^H1961 brick ^H3843 for stone ^H68, and they had ^H1961 tar ^H2564 for mortar ^H2563. 4 And they said ^H559, “Come ^H3051, let us build ^H1129 for ourselves a city ^H5892, and a tower ^H4026 whose top ^H7218 will reach into heaven ^H8064, and let us make ^H6213 for ourselves a name ^H8034, lest ^H6435 we be scattered ^H6327 over ^H5921 the face ^H6440 of the whole ^H3605 earth ^H776.” 5 Then Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H3381 down ^H3381 to see ^H7200 the city ^H5892 and the tower ^H4026 which ^H834 the sons ^H1121 of men ^H120 had built ^H1129. 6 And Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559, “Behold ^H2005, they are one ^H259 people ^H5971, and they all ^H3605 have [fn]the same ^H259 language ^H8193. The Generations of Shem

10 These ^H428 are the generations ^H8435 of Shem ^H8035. Shem ^H8035 was 100 ^H3967 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 and [fn]became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Arpachshad ^H775 two years ^H8141 after ^H310 the flood ^H3999;

11 and Shem ^H8035 lived ^H2421 500 ^H2568 H3967 years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Arpachshad ^H775, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

12 And Arpachshad ^H775 lived ^H2421 35 ^H7970 H2568 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Shelah ^H7974; 13 and Arpachshad ^H775 lived ^H2421 403 ^{H702 H3967 H7969} years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Shelah ^H7974, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

14 And Shelah ^H7974 lived ^H2421 30 ^H7970 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Eber ^H5677; 15 and Shelah ^H7974 lived ^H2421 403 ^{H702 H3967 H7969} years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Eber ^H5677, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

16 And Eber ^H5677 lived ^H2421 34 ^H7970 H702 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Peleg ^H6389; 17 and Eber ^H5677 lived ^H2421 430 ^{H702 H3967 H7970} years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Peleg ^H6389, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

18 And Peleg ^H6389 lived ^H2421 30 ^H7970 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Reu ^H7466; 19 and Peleg ^H6389 lived ^H2421 209 ^H3967 H8672 years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Reu ^H7466, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

20 And Reu ^H7466 lived ^H2421 32 ^H7970 H8147 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Serug ^H8286; 21 and Reu ^H7466 lived ^H2421 207 ^H3967 H7651 years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Serug ^H8286, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

22 And Serug ^H8286 lived ^H2421 30 ^H7970 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Nahor ^H5152; 23 and Serug ^H8286 lived ^H2421 200 ^H3967 years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Nahor ^H5152, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

24 Nahor ^H5152 lived ^H2421 29 ^H6242 H8672 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Terah ^H8646; 25 and Nahor ^H5152 lived ^H2421 119 ^{H3967 H8672 H6240} years ^H8141 after ^H310 he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Terah ^H8646, and he became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of other sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

26 And Terah ^H8646 lived ^H2421 70 ^H7657 years ^H8141 and became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Abram ^H87, Nahor ^H5152, and Haran ^H2039.

The Generations of Terah

27 Now these ^H428 are the generations ^H8435 of Terah ^H8646. Terah ^H8646 became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Abram ^H87, Nahor ^H5152, and Haran ^H2039; and Haran ^H2039 became ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Lot ^H3876.

28 And Haran ^H2039 died ^H4191 [fn]in the presence ^H6440 of Terah ^H8646 his father ^H1 in the land ^H776 of his birth ^H4138, in Ur ^H218 of the Chaldeans ^H3778. 29 Abram ^H87 and Nahor ^H5152 took ^H3947 wives ^H802 for themselves. The name ^H8034 of Abram’s ^H87 wife ^H802 was Sarai ^H8297; and the name ^H8034 of Nahor’s ^H5152 wife ^H802 was Milcah ^H4435, the daughter ^H1323 of Haran ^H2039, the father ^H1 of Milcah ^H4435 and the father ^H1 of Iscah ^H3252. 30 And Sarai ^H8297 was barren ^H6135; she had ^H369 no ^H369 child ^H2056.

31 And Terah ^H8646 took ^H3947 Abram ^H87 his son ^H1121, and Lot ^H3876 the son ^H1121 of Haran ^H2039, his grandson ^H1121, and Sarai ^H8297 his daughter-in-law ^H3618, his son ^H1121 Abram’s ^H87 wife ^H802; and they went ^H3318 out ^H3318 [fn]together ^H854 from Ur ^H218 of the Chaldeans ^H3778 in order to go ^H1980 to the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667; and they came ^H935 as far ^H5704 as Haran ^H2771 and [fn]settled ^H3427 there ^H8033. 32 And the days ^H3117 of Terah ^H8646 were 205 ^H3967 H2568 years ^H8141; and Terah ^H8646 died ^H4191 in Haran ^H2771.
