Yahweh Appears to Abram

1 And Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Abram ^H87,

“[fn]Go ^H1980 forth from your land ^H776,

And from your kin ^H4138

And from your father’s ^H1 house ^H1004,

To the land ^H776 which ^H834 I will show ^H7200 you;

2 And I will make ^H6213 you a great ^H1419 nation ^H1471,

And I will bless ^H1288 you,

And make ^H1431 your name ^H8034 great ^H1431;

And so [fn]you shall be a blessing ^H1293;

3 And I will bless ^H1288 those who bless ^H1288 you,

And the one who [fn]curses ^H7043 you I will [fn]curse ^H779.

And in you all ^H3605 the families ^H4940 of the earth ^H127 will be blessed ^H1288.”

4 So Abram ^H87 went ^H1980 forth as Yahweh ^H3068 had spoken ^H1696 to him; and Lot ^H3876 went ^H1980 with him. Now Abram ^H87 was seventy-five ^H7657 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 when he departed ^H3318 from Haran ^H2771.

5 So Abram ^H87 took ^H3947 Sarai ^H8297 his wife ^H802 and Lot ^H3876 his brother’s ^H251 son ^H1121, and all ^H3605 their possessions ^H7399 which ^H834 they had accumulated ^H7408, and the [fn]persons ^H5315 which ^H834 they had acquired ^H6213 in Haran ^H2771, and they departed ^H3318 to go ^H1980 forth to the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667; thus they came ^H935 to the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667. 6 And Abram ^H87 passed through ^H5674 the land ^H776 as far ^H5704 as the site ^H4725 of Shechem ^H7927, to the [fn]oak ^H436 of Moreh ^H4176. Now the Canaanite ^H3669 was then ^H227 in the land ^H776. 7 Then Yahweh ^H3068 appeared ^H7200 to Abram ^H87 and said ^H559, “To your seed ^H2233 I will give ^H5414 this ^H2088 land ^H776.” So he built ^H1129 an altar ^H4196 there ^H8033 to Yahweh ^H3068 who had appeared ^H7200 to him. 8 Then he proceeded ^H6275 from there ^H8033 to the mountain ^H2022 on the east ^H6924 of Bethel ^H1008, and he pitched ^H5186 his tent ^H168 with Bethel ^H1008 on the west ^H3220 and Ai ^H5857 on the east ^H6924; and there ^H8033 he built ^H1129 an altar ^H4196 to Yahweh ^H3068 and called ^H7121 upon the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068. 9 And Abram ^H87 journeyed ^H5265 on ^H5265, continuing ^H1980 H5265 toward the [fn]Negev ^H5045.

Abram and Sarai in Egypt

10 Now there was a famine ^H7458 in the land ^H776; so Abram ^H87 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 to Egypt ^H4714 to sojourn ^H1481 there ^H8033, for the famine ^H7458 was severe ^H3515 in the land ^H776.

11 And it happened ^H1961 as ^H834 he drew ^H7126 near ^H7126 to entering ^H935 Egypt ^H4714, that he said ^H559 to Sarai ^H8297 his wife ^H802, “Now ^H4994 behold ^H2009, I know ^H3045 that you are a woman ^H802 beautiful ^H3303 in appearance ^H4758; 12 and it will be when ^H3588 the Egyptians ^H4713 see ^H7200 you, that they will say ^H559, ‘This ^H2088 is his wife ^H802’; and they will kill ^H2026 me, but they will let you live ^H2421. 13 Please ^H4994 say ^H559 that you are my sister ^H269 so ^H4616 that it may go ^H3190 well ^H3190 with me because ^H5668 of you, and that [fn]I may live ^H2421 on account ^H1558 of you.” 14 Now it happened ^H1961 when Abram ^H87 came ^H935 into Egypt ^H4714, that the Egyptians ^H4713 [fn]saw ^H7200 that the woman ^H802 was very ^H3966 beautiful ^H3303. 15 And Pharaoh’s ^H6547 officials ^H8269 saw ^H7200 her and praised ^H1984 her to Pharaoh ^H6547; and the woman ^H802 was taken ^H3947 into Pharaoh’s ^H6547 house ^H1004. 16 Therefore he treated ^H3190 Abram ^H87 well ^H3190 because ^H5668 of her; and sheep ^H6629 and oxen ^H1241 and donkeys ^H2543 and male ^H5650 and female ^H8198 servants ^H8198 and female ^H860 donkeys ^H860 and camels ^H1581 [fn]came ^H1961 into his possession.

17 But Yahweh ^H3068 struck ^H5060 Pharaoh ^H6547 and his house ^H1004 with great ^H1419 plagues ^H5061 because ^H5921 H1697 of Sarai ^H8297, Abram’s ^H87 wife ^H802. 18 Then Pharaoh ^H6547 called ^H7121 Abram ^H87 and said ^H559, “What ^H4100 is this ^H2088 you have done ^H6213 to me? Why ^H4100 did you not tell ^H5046 me that she was your wife ^H802? 19 Why ^H4100 did you say ^H559, ‘She is my sister ^H269,’ so that I took ^H3947 her for myself as a wife ^H802? So now ^H6258, [fn]here ^H2009 is your wife ^H802, take ^H3947 her and go ^H1980.” 20 So Pharaoh ^H6547 commanded ^H6680 his men ^H376 concerning ^H5921 him; and they [fn]sent ^H7971 him away ^H7971 with his wife ^H802 and all ^H3605 that belonged to him.
