1 Thus the heavens ^H8064 and the earth ^H776 were completed ^H3615, and all ^H3605 their hosts ^H6635. 2 And [fn]on the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117 God ^H430 completed ^H3615 His work ^H4399 which ^H834 He had done ^H6213, and He rested ^H7673 on the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117 from all ^H3605 His work ^H4399 which ^H834 He had done ^H6213. 3 Then God ^H430 blessed ^H1288 the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117 and sanctified ^H6942 it, because ^H3588 on it He rested ^H7673 from all ^H3605 His work ^H4399 which ^H834 God ^H430 had created ^H1254 [fn]in making ^H6213 it.

The Generations of the Heavens and the Earth

4 These ^H428 are the generations ^H8435 of the heavens ^H8064 and the earth ^H776 when they were created ^H1254, in the day ^H3117 that [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 made ^H6213 earth ^H776 and heaven ^H8064.

5 Now no ^H2962 H3605 shrub ^H7880 of the field ^H7704 was yet ^H2962 in the earth ^H776, and no ^H2962 H3605 plant ^H6212 of the field ^H7704 had yet ^H2962 grown ^H6779, for Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 had not caused ^H4305 it to rain ^H4305 upon the earth ^H776, and there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 man ^H120 to [fn]cultivate ^H5647 the ground ^H127. 6 But a [fn]stream ^H108 would rise ^H5927 from the earth ^H776 and water ^H8248 the whole ^H3605 [fn]surface ^H6440 of the ground ^H127. 7 Then Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 formed ^H3335 man ^H120 of dust ^H6083 from the ground ^H127 and breathed ^H5301 into his nostrils ^H639 the breath ^H5397 of life ^H2416; and so the man ^H120 became ^H1961 a living ^H2416 [fn]being ^H5315. 8 And Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 planted ^H5193 a garden ^H1588 in Eden ^H5731, toward ^H4480 the east ^H6924; and there ^H8033 He placed ^H7760 the man ^H120 whom ^H834 He had formed ^H3335. 9 And out of the ground ^H127 Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 caused to grow ^H6779 every ^H3605 tree ^H6086 that is desirable ^H2530 in appearance ^H4758 and good ^H2896 for food ^H3978; the tree ^H6086 of life ^H2416 also in the midst ^H8432 of the garden ^H1588, and the tree ^H6086 of the knowledge ^H1847 of good ^H2896 and evil ^H7451.

10 Now a river ^H5104 went ^H3318 out ^H3318 of Eden ^H5731 to water ^H8248 the garden ^H1588; and from there ^H8033 it divided ^H6504 and became ^H1961 four ^H702 [fn]rivers ^H7218. 11 The name ^H8034 of the first ^H259 is Pishon ^H6376; it is the one that [fn]went ^H5437 around ^H5437 the whole ^H3605 land ^H776 of Havilah ^H2341, where ^H834 H8033 there ^H8033 is gold ^H2091. 12 Now the gold ^H2091 of that land ^H776 is good ^H2896; the bdellium ^H916 and the onyx ^H7718 stone ^H68 are there ^H8033. 13 And the name ^H8034 of the second ^H8145 river ^H5104 is Gihon ^H1521; it is the one that [fn]went ^H5437 around ^H5437 the whole ^H3605 land ^H776 of Cush ^H3568. 14 And the name ^H8034 of the third ^H7992 river ^H5104 is [fn]Tigris ^H2313; it is the one that went ^H1980 east ^H6926 of [fn]Asshur ^H804. And the fourth ^H7243 river ^H5104 is the [fn]Euphrates ^H6578.

15 Then Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 took ^H3947 the man ^H120 and [fn]set ^H5117 him ^H5117 in the garden ^H1588 of Eden ^H5731 to cultivate ^H5647 it and keep ^H8104 it. 16 And Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 commanded ^H6680 the man ^H120, saying ^H559, “From any ^H3605 tree ^H6086 of the garden ^H1588 you may surely ^H398 eat ^H398; 17 but from the tree ^H6086 of the knowledge ^H1847 of good ^H2896 and evil ^H7451, you shall not eat ^H398 from it; for in the day ^H3117 that you eat ^H398 from it you will surely ^H4191 die ^H4191.”

18 Then Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 said ^H559, “It is not good ^H2896 for the man ^H120 to be alone ^H905; I will make ^H6213 him a helper ^H5828 [fn]suitable ^H5048 for him.” 19 And out of the ground ^H127 Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 had formed ^H3335 every ^H3605 beast ^H2416 of the field ^H7704 and every ^H3605 bird ^H5775 of the [fn]sky ^H8064, and He brought ^H935 each to the man ^H120 to see ^H7200 what ^H4100 he would call ^H7121 it; and whatever ^H3605 H834 the man ^H120 called ^H7121 a living ^H2416 creature ^H5315, that was its name ^H8034. 20 And the man ^H120 gave ^H7121 names ^H8034 to all ^H3605 the cattle ^H929 and to the birds ^H5775 of the [fn]sky ^H8064 and to every ^H3605 beast ^H2416 of the field ^H7704; but for [fn]Adam ^H121 there was not found ^H4672 a helper ^H5828 [fn]suitable ^H5048 for him. 21 So Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 caused a deep ^H8639 sleep ^H8639 to fall ^H5307 upon the man ^H120, and he slept ^H3462; then He took ^H3947 one ^H259 of his ribs ^H6763 and closed ^H5462 up ^H5462 the flesh ^H1320 at that place ^H8478. 22 And Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430 [fn]fashioned ^H1129 the rib ^H6763, which ^H834 He had taken ^H3947 from the man ^H120, into a woman ^H802, and He brought ^H935 her to the man ^H120. 23 Then the man ^H120 said ^H559,

“This ^H2088 one ^H2088 finally ^H6471 is bone ^H6106 of my bones ^H6106,

And flesh ^H1320 of my flesh ^H1320;

This ^H2088 one ^H2088 shall be called ^H7121 [fn]Woman ^H802,

Because ^H3588 this ^H2088 one ^H2088 was taken ^H3947 out of [fn]Man ^H376.”

24 Therefore ^H5921 H3651 a man ^H376 shall leave ^H5800 his father ^H1 and his mother ^H517, and cleave ^H1692 to his wife ^H802; and they shall become ^H1961 one ^H259 flesh ^H1320. 25 And the man ^H120 and his wife ^H802 were both ^H8147 naked ^H6174 and were ^H954 not ashamed ^H954.
