Isaac Is Born

1 Now Yahweh ^H3068 visited ^H6485 Sarah ^H8283 as He had said ^H559, and Yahweh ^H3068 did ^H6213 for Sarah ^H8283 as He had [fn]promised ^H1696.

2 So Sarah ^H8283 conceived ^H2029 and bore ^H3205 a son ^H1121 to Abraham ^H85 in his old ^H2208 age ^H2208, at the appointed ^H4150 time ^H4150 of which ^H834 God ^H430 had spoken ^H1696 to him. 3 And Abraham ^H85 called ^H7121 the name ^H8034 of his son ^H1121 who was born ^H3205 to him, whom ^H834 Sarah ^H8283 bore ^H3205 to him, Isaac ^H3327. 4 Then Abraham ^H85 circumcised ^H4135 his son ^H1121 Isaac ^H3327 when he was eight ^H8083 days ^H3117 old ^H1121, as God ^H430 had commanded ^H6680 him. 5 Now Abraham ^H85 was one hundred ^H3967 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 when his son ^H1121 Isaac ^H3327 was born ^H3205 to him. 6 And Sarah ^H8283 said ^H559, “God ^H430 has made ^H6213 laughter ^H6712 for me; everyone ^H3605 who hears ^H8085 will laugh ^H6711 [fn]with me.” 7 And she said ^H559, “Who ^H4310 would have said ^H559 to Abraham ^H85 that Sarah ^H8283 would nurse ^H3243 children ^H1121? Yet ^H3588 I have borne ^H3205 him a son ^H1121 in his old ^H2208 age ^H2208.”

Sarah Sends Hagar Away

8 And the child ^H3206 grew ^H1431 and was weaned ^H1580, and Abraham ^H85 made ^H6213 a great ^H1419 feast ^H4960 on the day ^H3117 that Isaac ^H3327 was weaned ^H1580.

9 And Sarah ^H8283 saw ^H7200 the son ^H1121 of Hagar ^H1904 the Egyptian ^H4713, whom ^H834 she had borne ^H3205 to Abraham ^H85, [fn]laughing ^H6711 in jest. 10 Therefore she said ^H559 to Abraham ^H85, “Drive ^H1644 out ^H1644 this ^H2088 maidservant ^H519 and her son ^H1121! The son ^H1121 of this ^H2088 maidservant ^H519 shall not be ^H3423 an ^H3423 heir ^H3423 with my son ^H1121, with Isaac ^H3327.” 11 And the matter ^H1697 [fn]distressed ^H7489 Abraham ^H85 greatly ^H3966 because ^H5921 H182 of his son ^H1121. 12 So God ^H430 said ^H559 to Abraham ^H85, “[fn]Do not be distressed ^H7489 because ^H5921 of the boy ^H5288 and your maidservant ^H519; whatever ^H3605 H834 Sarah ^H8283 tells ^H559 you, listen ^H8085 to her voice, for through ^H4480 Isaac ^H3327 your seed ^H2233 shall be named ^H7121. 13 And of the son ^H1121 of the maidservant ^H519 I will make ^H7760 a nation ^H1471 also ^H1571, because ^H3588 he is your seed ^H2233.” 14 So Abraham ^H85 rose ^H7925 early ^H7925 in the morning ^H1242 and took ^H3947 bread ^H3899 and a [fn]skin ^H2573 of water ^H4325 and gave ^H5414 them to Hagar ^H1904, putting ^H7760 them on her shoulder ^H7926, and gave her the child ^H3206, and sent ^H7971 her away ^H7971. So she went ^H1980 and wandered ^H8582 about ^H8582 in the wilderness ^H4057 of Beersheba ^H884.

20 And God ^H430 was with the boy ^H5288, and he grew ^H1431; and he [fn]lived ^H3427 in the wilderness ^H4057 and was ^H1961 an archer ^H7235 H7199. 21 And he [fn]lived ^H3427 in the wilderness ^H4057 of Paran ^H6290, and his mother ^H517 took ^H3947 a wife ^H802 for him from the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714.

A Covenant with Abimelech

22 Now it happened ^H1961 at that time ^H6256, that Abimelech ^H40 and Phicol ^H6369, the commander ^H8269 of his army ^H6635, spoke ^H559 to Abraham ^H85, saying ^H559, “God ^H430 is with you in all ^H3605 that you do ^H6213;

23 so now ^H6258, swear ^H7650 to me here ^H2008 by God ^H430 that you will not deal ^H8266 falsely ^H8266 with me or with my offspring ^H5209 or with my posterity ^H5220, but according to the lovingkindness ^H2617 that I have shown ^H6213 you, you shall show ^H6213 me and the land ^H776 in which ^H834 you have sojourned ^H1481.” 24 And Abraham ^H85 said ^H559, “I swear ^H7650 it.” 25 But Abraham ^H85 reproved ^H3198 Abimelech ^H40 about ^H5921 H182 the well ^H875 of water ^H4325 which ^H834 the servants ^H5650 of Abimelech ^H40 had seized ^H1497. 26 And Abimelech ^H40 said ^H559, “I do not know ^H3045 who ^H4310 has done ^H6213 this ^H2088 thing ^H1697; you did not tell ^H5046 me, nor ^H571 H3808 did I hear ^H8085 of it [fn]until ^H1115 today ^H3117.”

27 So Abraham ^H85 took ^H3947 sheep ^H6629 and oxen ^H1241 and gave ^H5414 them to Abimelech ^H40, and the two ^H8147 of them cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285. 28 Then Abraham ^H85 set ^H5324 seven ^H7651 ewe ^H3535 lambs ^H3535 of the flock ^H6629 by ^H905 themselves ^H905. 29 And Abimelech ^H40 said ^H559 to Abraham ^H85, “What ^H4100 do these ^H428 seven ^H7651 ewe ^H3535 lambs ^H3535 mean, which ^H834 you have set ^H5324 by ^H905 themselves ^H905?” 30 He said ^H559, “You shall take ^H3947 these seven ^H7651 ewe ^H3535 lambs ^H3535 from my hand ^H3027 so ^H5668 that it may be a witness ^H5713 to me, that I dug ^H2658 this ^H2088 well ^H875.” 31 Therefore ^H5921 H3651 he called ^H7121 that place ^H4725 Beersheba ^H884, because ^H3588 there ^H8033 the two ^H8147 of them swore ^H7650 an oath. 32 So they cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 at Beersheba ^H884; and Abimelech ^H40 and Phicol ^H6369, the commander ^H8269 of his army ^H6635, arose ^H6965 and returned ^H7725 to the land ^H776 of the Philistines ^H6430. 33 And Abraham planted ^H5193 a tamarisk ^H815 tree ^H815 at Beersheba ^H884, and there ^H8033 he called ^H7121 upon the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068, the Everlasting ^H5769 God ^H410. 34 And Abraham ^H85 sojourned ^H1481 in the land ^H776 of the Philistines ^H6430 for many ^H7227 days ^H3117.
