Sarah’s Death and Burial

1 And [fn]Sarah ^H8283 lived ^H2416 H1961 127 ^{H3967 H6242 H7651} years ^H8141; these were the years ^H8141 of the life ^H2416 of Sarah ^H8283.

2 Sarah ^H8283 died ^H4191 in Kiriath-arba ^H7153 (that is, Hebron ^H2275) in the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667; and Abraham ^H85 [fn]came ^H935 to mourn ^H5594 for Sarah ^H8283 and to weep ^H1058 for her. 3 Then Abraham ^H85 rose ^H6965 from before ^H6440 his dead ^H4191 and spoke ^H1696 to the sons ^H1121 of Heth ^H2845, saying ^H559, 4 “I am a sojourner ^H1616 and a foreign ^H8453 resident ^H8453 among ^H5973 you; give ^H5414 me a possession ^H272 for a burial ^H6913 site ^H6913 among ^H5973 you that I may bury ^H6912 my dead ^H4191 out of my sight ^H6440.” 5 And the sons ^H1121 of Heth ^H2845 answered ^H6030 Abraham ^H85, saying ^H559 to him, 6 “Hear ^H8085 us, my lord ^H113, you are a [fn]mighty ^H430 prince ^H5387 among ^H8432 us; bury ^H6912 your dead ^H4191 in the choicest ^H4005 of our burial ^H6913 sites ^H6913; none ^H376 H3808 of us will refuse ^H3607 you his burial ^H6913 sites ^H6913 for burying ^H6912 your dead ^H4191.” 7 So Abraham ^H85 rose ^H6965 and bowed ^H2331 to the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776, the sons ^H1121 of Heth ^H2845. 8 And he spoke ^H1696 with them, saying ^H559, “If ^H518 it is your [fn]desire ^H5315 for me to bury ^H6912 my dead ^H4191 out of my sight ^H6440, hear ^H8085 me, and meet ^H6293 with Ephron ^H6085 the son ^H1121 of Zohar ^H6714 for me, 9 that he may give ^H5414 me the cave ^H4631 of Machpelah ^H4375 which ^H834 belongs to him, which ^H834 is at the end ^H7097 of his field ^H7704; for the full ^H4392 price ^H3701 let him give ^H5414 it to me in [fn]your presence ^H8432 as a possession ^H272 for a burial ^H6913 site ^H6913.” 10 Now Ephron ^H6085 was sitting ^H3427 among ^H8432 the sons ^H1121 of Heth ^H2845; and Ephron ^H6085 the Hittite ^H2850 answered ^H6030 Abraham ^H85 in the hearing ^H241 of the sons ^H1121 of Heth ^H2845, even of all ^H3605 who went ^H935 in ^H935 at the gate ^H8179 of his city ^H5892, saying ^H559, 11 “No ^H3808, my lord ^H113, hear ^H8085 me; I give ^H5414 you the field ^H7704, and I give ^H5414 you the cave ^H4631 that is in it. So bury ^H6912 your dead ^H4191.” 16 So Abraham ^H85 heard ^H8085 Ephron ^H6085; and Abraham ^H85 weighed ^H8254 out ^H8254 for Ephron ^H6085 the silver ^H3701 which ^H834 he had named ^H1696 in the [fn]hearing ^H241 of the sons ^H1121 of Heth ^H2845, four ^H702 hundred ^H3967 shekels ^H8255 of silver ^H3701, [fn]commercial ^H5503 standard ^H5674.
