Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All

1 For the Law ^G3551, since it has ^G2192 only a shadow ^G4639 of the good ^G18 things ^G18 to ^G3195 come ^G3195 and not the very ^G846 [fn]form ^G1504 of things ^G4229, [fn]can ^G1410 never ^G3763, by the same ^G846 sacrifices ^G2378 which ^G3739 they offer ^G4374 continually ^G1336 year ^G1763 by year ^G1763, make ^G5048 perfect ^G5048 those ^G3588 who draw ^G4334 near ^G4334.

2 Otherwise ^G1893, would they not have ceased ^G3973 to be offered ^G4374, because ^G1223 the worshipers ^G3000, having once ^G530 been cleansed ^G2511, would no ^G3367 longer ^G2089 have ^G2192 consciousness ^G4893 of sins ^G266? 3 But in [fn]those ^G846 sacrifices there is a reminder ^G364 of sins ^G266 year ^G1763 by year ^G1763. 4 For it is impossible ^G102 for the blood ^G129 of bulls ^G5022 and goats ^G5131 to take ^G851 away ^G851 sins ^G266. 5 Therefore ^G1352, when He comes ^G1525 into the world ^G2889, He says ^G3004,

“SACRIFICE ^G2378 AND OFFERING ^G4376 YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED ^G2309,

BUT A BODY ^G4983 YOU HAVE PREPARED ^G2675 FOR ME;

6 IN BURNT ^G3646 OFFERINGS ^G3646 AND sacrifices FOR SIN ^G266 YOU HAVE TAKEN ^G2106 NO ^G3756 PLEASURE ^G2106.

7 “THEN ^G5119 I SAID ^G3004, ‘BEHOLD ^G2400, I HAVE ^G2240 COME ^G2240,

IN THE SCROLL ^G2777 OF THE BOOK ^G975 IT IS WRITTEN ^G1125 OF ME,

TO DO ^G4160 YOUR WILL ^G2307, O GOD ^G2316.’”

8 After saying ^G3004 above ^G511, “SACRIFICES ^G2378 AND OFFERINGS ^G4376 AND BURNT ^G3646 OFFERINGS ^G3646 AND sacrifices FOR SIN ^G266 YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED ^G2309, NOR ^G3761 HAVE YOU TAKEN ^G2106 PLEASURE ^G2106 in them” (which ^G3748 are offered ^G4374 according ^G2596 to the Law ^G3551), 9 then ^G5119 He [fn]said ^G3004, “BEHOLD ^G2400, I HAVE ^G2240 COME ^G2240 TO DO ^G4160 YOUR WILL ^G2307.” He takes ^G337 away ^G337 the first ^G4413 in ^G2443 order ^G2443 to ^G2443 establish ^G2476 the second ^G1208. 10 By [fn]this ^G3739 will ^G2307 we have been ^G1510 sanctified ^G37 through ^G1223 the offering ^G4376 of the body ^G4983 of Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547 once ^G2178 for ^G2178 all ^G2178.

16 “THIS ^G3778 IS THE COVENANT ^G1242 THAT I WILL MAKE ^G1303 WITH THEM

AFTER ^G3326 THOSE ^G1565 DAYS ^G2250, SAYS ^G3004 THE [fn]LORD ^G2962:

I WILL PUT ^G1325 MY LAWS ^G3551 UPON THEIR HEART ^G2588,

AND ON THEIR MIND ^G1271 I WILL WRITE ^G1924 THEM,”

He then says,

17 “AND THEIR SINS ^G266 AND THEIR LAWLESS ^G458 DEEDS ^G458

I WILL REMEMBER ^G3403 NO ^G3756 G3361 MORE ^G2089.”

18 Now ^G1161 where ^G3699 there is forgiveness ^G859 of these ^G3778 things ^G3778, there is no ^G3765 longer ^G3765 any offering ^G4376 for sin ^G266.

A New and Living Way

19 Therefore ^G3767, brothers ^G80, since we have ^G2192 confidence ^G3954 to enter ^G1529 the holy ^G40 places ^G40 by the blood ^G129 of Jesus ^G2424,

20 by a new ^G4372 and living ^G2198 way ^G3598 which ^G3739 He inaugurated ^G1457 for us through ^G1223 the veil ^G2665, that is, His flesh ^G4561, 21 and since we have a great ^G3173 priest ^G2409 over ^G1909 the house ^G3624 of God ^G2316, 22 let us draw ^G4334 near ^G4334 with a [fn]sincere ^G228 heart ^G2588 in full ^G4136 assurance ^G4136 of faith ^G4102, having our hearts ^G2588 sprinkled ^G4472 from an evil ^G4190 conscience ^G4893 and our bodies ^G4983 washed ^G3068 with pure ^G2513 water ^G5204. 23 Let us hold ^G2722 fast ^G2722 the confession ^G3671 of our hope ^G1680 without ^G186 wavering ^G186, for He who promised ^G1861 is faithful ^G4103. 24 And let us consider ^G2657 how to stimulate ^G3948 one ^G240 another ^G240 to love ^G26 and good ^G2570 deeds ^G2041, 25 not forsaking ^G1459 our own ^G1438 assembling ^G1997 together ^G1997, as is the habit ^G1485 of some ^G5100, but encouraging ^G3870 one another, and all ^G5118 the more ^G3123 as you see ^G991 the day ^G2250 drawing ^G1448 near ^G1448.

Warning Against Willful Sin

26 For if we go on sinning ^G264 willfully ^G1596 after ^G3326 receiving ^G2983 the knowledge ^G1922 of the truth ^G225, there no ^G3765 longer ^G3765 remains ^G620 a sacrifice ^G2378 for sins ^G266,

27 but a terrifying ^G5398 expectation ^G1561 of judgment ^G2920 and THE FURY ^G2205 OF A FIRE ^G4442 WHICH WILL ^G3195 CONSUME ^G2068 THE ADVERSARIES ^G5227. 28 Anyone ^G5100 who has set ^G114 aside ^G114 the Law ^G3551 of Moses ^G3475 dies ^G599 without ^G5565 mercy ^G3628 by the mouth of two ^G1417 or ^G2228 three ^G5140 witnesses ^G3144. 29 How ^G4214 much ^G4214 worse ^G5501 punishment ^G5098 do you think ^G1380 he will deserve ^G515 who has trampled ^G2662 underfoot ^G2662 the Son ^G5207 of God ^G2316, and has regarded ^G2233 as defiled ^G2839 the blood ^G129 of the covenant ^G1242 by which ^G3739 he was sanctified ^G37, and has insulted ^G1796 the Spirit ^G4151 of grace ^G5485? 30 For we know ^G6063 Him who said ^G3004, “VENGEANCE ^G1557 IS MINE ^G1699, I WILL REPAY ^G467.” And again ^G3825, “THE [fn]LORD ^G2962 WILL JUDGE ^G2919 HIS PEOPLE ^G2992.” 31 It is a terrifying ^G5398 thing ^G5398 to fall ^G1706 into the hands ^G5495 of the living ^G2198 God ^G2316.

32 But remember ^G363 the former ^G4387 days ^G2250, [fn]when ^G1722 G3739, after being enlightened ^G5461, you endured ^G5278 a great ^G4183 conflict ^G119 of sufferings ^G3804, 33 partly ^G3778 G3303 by being made ^G2301 a ^G2301 public ^G2301 spectacle ^G2301 through reproaches ^G3680 and afflictions ^G2347, and partly ^G1161 by becoming ^G1096 sharers ^G2844 with those ^G3588 who were so ^G3779 treated ^G390. 34 For you also showed ^G4834 sympathy ^G4834 to the prisoners ^G1198 and accepted ^G4327 with joy ^G5479 the seizure ^G724 of your possessions ^G5225, knowing ^G1097 that you have ^G2192 for yourselves ^G1438 a better ^G2909 and lasting ^G3306 possession ^G5223. 35 Therefore ^G3767, do not throw ^G577 away ^G577 that confidence ^G3954 of yours, which ^G3748 has ^G2192 a great ^G3173 reward ^G3405. 36 For you have ^G2192 need ^G5532 of endurance ^G5281, so ^G2443 that when you have done ^G4160 the will ^G2307 of God ^G2316, you may receive ^G2865 the ^G1860 promise ^G1860.

37 FOR YET ^G2089 IN A VERY ^G3745 LITTLE ^G3398 WHILE ^G3745,

HE WHO IS COMING ^G2064 WILL COME ^G2240, AND WILL NOT DELAY ^G5549.

38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ^G1342 ONE ^G1342 SHALL LIVE ^G2198 BY FAITH ^G4102,

AND IF ^G1437 HE SHRINKS ^G5288 BACK ^G5288, MY SOUL ^G5590 HAS ^G2106 NO ^G3756 PLEASURE ^G2106 IN HIM.

39 But [fn]we are not of those who shrink ^G5289 back ^G5289 to destruction ^G684, but of those who have faith ^G4102 to the [fn]preserving ^G4047 of the soul ^G5590.
