Ephraim’s Idolatry

1 When Ephraim ^H669 [fn]spoke ^H1696, there was trembling ^H7578.

Idols ^H6091 made from their silver ^H3701 according to their understanding ^H8394,

They are saying ^H559 of them, “Let the [fn]men ^H120 who sacrifice ^H2076 kiss ^H5401 the calves ^H5695!”

3 Therefore ^H3651 they will be like the morning ^H1242 cloud ^H6051

And like dew ^H2919 which [fn]soon ^H7925 disappears ^H1980,

Like chaff ^H4671 which is blown ^H5590 away ^H5590 from the threshing ^H1637 floor ^H1637

And like smoke ^H6227 from a [fn]chimney ^H699.

4 Yet I have been Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430

Since ^H4480 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714;

And you were not to know ^H3045 any god ^H430 except ^H2108 Me,

And there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 savior ^H3467 besides ^H1115 Me.

5 I Myself knew ^H3045 you in the wilderness ^H4057,

In the land ^H776 of drought ^H8514.

6 As they had their pasture ^H4830, then they became ^H7646 satisfied ^H7646,

Indeed, they were ^H7646 satisfied ^H7646, and their heart ^H3820 became ^H7311 raised ^H7311 up ^H7311;

7 So I will be like ^H3644 a lion ^H7826 to them;

[fn]That you are against Me, against your help ^H5828.

And your judges ^H8199 of whom ^H834 you said ^H559,

“Give ^H5414 me a king ^H4428 and princes ^H8269”?

11 I gave ^H5414 you a king ^H4428 in My anger ^H639

And took ^H3947 him away in My wrath ^H5678.

12 The iniquity ^H5771 of Ephraim ^H669 is bound ^H6887 up ^H6887;

His sin ^H2403 is stored ^H6845 up.

13 The pains ^H2256 of childbirth ^H3205 come ^H935 upon him;

He is not a wise ^H2450 son ^H1121,

For [fn]it is not the time ^H6256 that he should delay ^H5975 at the opening ^H4866 H1121 of the womb ^H4866.

14 Shall I ransom ^H6299 them from the [fn]power ^H3027 of Sheol ^H7585?

Shall I redeem ^H1350 them from death ^H4194?

O Death ^H4194, where ^H165 are your thorns ^H1698?

O Sheol ^H7585, where ^H165 is your sting ^H6986?

Compassion ^H5164 will be hidden ^H5641 from My sight ^H5869.

15 Though ^H3588 he is fruitful ^H6509 among ^H996 the [fn]reeds ^H260,

An east ^H6921 wind ^H6921 will come ^H935,

The wind ^H7307 of Yahweh ^H3068 coming ^H5927 up ^H5927 from the wilderness ^H4057;

And his fountain ^H4726 will become ^H3001 dry ^H3001,

And his spring ^H4599 will be dried ^H2717 up ^H2717;

It will plunder ^H8154 his treasury ^H214 of every ^H3605 desirable ^H2532 article ^H3627.

16 [fn]Samaria ^H8111 will be held ^H816 guilty ^H816,

For she has rebelled ^H4784 against her God ^H430.

They will fall ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719;

Their infants ^H5768 will be dashed ^H7376 in pieces ^H7376,

And their pregnant ^H2030 women ^H2030 will be ripped ^H1234 open ^H1234.
