Judah, a Sinful Nation

1 The vision ^H2377 of Isaiah ^H3470 the son ^H1121 of Amoz ^H531 concerning ^H5921 Judah ^H3063 and Jerusalem ^H3389, which ^H834 he beheld ^H2372 in the days ^H3117 of Uzziah ^H5818, Jotham ^H3147, Ahaz ^H271, and Hezekiah ^H2396, kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063.

2 Hear ^H8085, O heavens ^H8064, and give ^H238 ear ^H238, O earth ^H776;

For [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 speaks ^H1696,

“Sons ^H1121 I have reared ^H1431 and raised ^H7311 up ^H7311,

But they have transgressed ^H6586 against Me.

3 “An ox ^H7794 knows ^H3045 its owner ^H7069,

And a donkey ^H2543 its master’s ^H1167 manger ^H18,

But Israel ^H3478 does not know ^H3045;

My people ^H5971 do not perceive ^H995.”

4 Alas ^H1945, sinful ^H2398 nation ^H1471,

People ^H5971 heavy ^H3515 with iniquity ^H5771,

Seed ^H2233 of evildoers ^H7489,

Sons ^H1121 who act ^H7843 corruptly ^H7843!

They have forsaken ^H5800 Yahweh ^H3068;

They have spurned ^H5006 the Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918 of Israel ^H3478;

They have [fn]become ^H2114 estranged ^H2114 [fn]from Him.

5 Where ^H5921 H4100 will you be stricken ^H5221 again ^H5750,

As you continue ^H3254 in your rebellion ^H5627?

The whole ^H3605 head ^H7218 is sick ^H2483,

And the whole ^H3605 heart ^H3824 is faint ^H1742.

6 From the sole ^H3709 of the foot ^H7272 even to the head ^H7218

There ^H369 is ^H369 nothing ^H369 sound ^H4974 in it,

Only bruises ^H6482, wounds ^H2250, and raw ^H2961 wounds ^H4347,

Not pressed ^H2115 out ^H2115, not bandaged ^H2280,

Not ^H3808 softened ^H7401 with oil ^H8081.

7 Your land ^H776 is desolate ^H8077;

Your cities ^H5892 are burned ^H8313 with fire ^H784;

Your fields ^H127—strangers ^H2114 are devouring ^H398 them in your presence ^H5048;

It is desolate ^H8077, as overthrown ^H4114 by strangers ^H2114.

8 The daughter ^H1323 of Zion ^H6726 is left ^H3498 like a shelter ^H5521 in a vineyard ^H3754,

Like a watchman’s ^H4412 hut ^H4412 in a cucumber ^H4750 field ^H4750, like a besieged ^H5341 city ^H5892.

9 Unless ^H3884 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635

Had left ^H3498 us a few ^H4592 survivors ^H8300,

We would be like Sodom ^H5467,

We would be ^H1819 like ^H1819 Gomorrah ^H6017.

10 Hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068,

You rulers ^H7101 of Sodom ^H5467;

Give ^H238 ear ^H238 to the law ^H8451 of our God ^H430,

You people ^H5971 of Gomorrah ^H6017.

11 “What ^H4100 are your multiplied ^H7230 sacrifices ^H2077 to Me?”

Says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068.

“I [fn]have had ^H7646 enough ^H7646 of burnt ^H5930 offerings ^H5930 of rams ^H352

And the fat ^H2459 of fed ^H4806 cattle ^H4806;

And in the blood ^H1818 of bulls ^H6499, lambs ^H3532, or goats ^H6260 [fn]I take ^H2654 no ^H3808 pleasure ^H2654.

12 “When ^H3588 you come ^H935 to appear ^H7200 before ^H6440 Me,

Who ^H4310 requires ^H1245 [fn]of you this ^H2088 trampling ^H7429 of My courts ^H2691?

13 “Bring ^H935 your worthless ^H7723 offerings ^H4503 no ^H3808 longer ^H3254,

Incense ^H7004 is an abomination ^H8441 to Me.

New ^H2320 moon ^H2320 and sabbath ^H7676, the calling ^H7121 of convocation ^H4744—

I cannot ^H3808 endure ^H3201 wickedness ^H205 and the solemn ^H6116 assembly ^H6116.

14 “My soul hates ^H8130 your new ^H2320 moon ^H2320 festivals and your appointed ^H4150 times ^H4150,

They have become ^H1961 a burden ^H2960 to Me;

I am ^H3811 weary ^H3811 of bearing ^H5375 them.

15 “So when you spread ^H6566 out ^H6566 your hands ^H3709 in prayer,

I will hide ^H5956 My eyes ^H5869 from you;

Indeed ^H1571, even ^H1571 though ^H3588 you multiply ^H7235 prayers ^H8605,

I will not listen ^H8085.

Your hands ^H3027 are full ^H4390 of blood ^H1818.

16 “Wash ^H7364 yourselves, purify ^H2135 yourselves;

Remove ^H5493 the evil ^H7455 of your deeds ^H4611 from before My eyes ^H5048 H5869.

Cease ^H2308 to do evil ^H7489,

17 Learn ^H3925 to do ^H3190 good ^H3190;

Seek ^H1875 justice ^H4941,

Reprove ^H833 the ruthless ^H2541,

Execute justice ^H8199 for the [fn]orphan ^H3490,

Plead ^H7378 for the widow ^H490.

18 “Come ^H1980 now ^H4994, and let us reason ^H3198 together,”

Says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068,

“Though ^H518 your sins ^H2399 are as scarlet ^H8144,

They will be as white ^H3835 as snow ^H7950;

Though ^H518 they are red ^H119 like crimson ^H8438,

They will be like wool ^H6785.

19 “If ^H518 you are ^H14 willing ^H14 and obey ^H8085,

You will eat ^H398 the best ^H2898 of the land ^H776;

20 But if ^H518 you refuse ^H3985 and rebel ^H4784,

You will be eaten ^H398 by the sword ^H2719.”

For ^H3588 the mouth ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696.

Zion Will Be Redeemed with Justice

21 How ^H351 the faithful ^H539 city ^H7151 has become ^H1961 a harlot ^H2181,

She who was full ^H4392 of justice ^H4941!

Righteousness ^H6664 once lodged ^H3885 in her,

But now ^H6258 murderers ^H7523.

22 Your silver ^H3701 has become ^H1961 dross ^H5509,

Your drink ^H5435 diluted ^H4107 with water ^H4325.

23 Your rulers ^H8269 are rebels ^H5637

And companions ^H2270 of thieves ^H1590;

Everyone ^H3605 loves ^H157 a bribe ^H7810

And pursues ^H7291 rewards ^H8021.

They do not execute justice ^H8199 for the [fn]orphan ^H3490,

Nor ^H3808 does the widow’s ^H490 plea ^H7379 come ^H935 before ^H413 them.

24 Therefore ^H3651 the Lord ^H136, Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635,

The Mighty ^H46 One ^H46 of Israel ^H3478, declares ^H5002,

“Ah ^H1945, I will be comforted ^H5162 concerning My adversaries ^H6862,

And I will avenge ^H5358 Myself on My enemies ^H340.

25 “I will also turn ^H7725 My hand ^H3027 against ^H5921 you,

And will smelt ^H6884 away ^H6884 your dross ^H5509 as with lye ^H1253

And will remove ^H5493 all ^H3605 your alloy ^H913.

26 “Then I will have ^H7725 your judges ^H8199 return ^H7725 as at the first ^H7223,

And your counselors ^H3289 as at the beginning ^H8462;

Afterwards ^H310 you will be called ^H7121 the city ^H5892 of righteousness ^H6664,

A faithful ^H539 town ^H7151.”

27 Zion ^H6726 will be redeemed ^H6299 with justice ^H4941

And her [fn]repentant ^H7725 ones with righteousness ^H6666.

28 But [fn]transgressors ^H6586 and sinners ^H2400 will be broken ^H7667 together ^H3162,

And those who forsake ^H5800 Yahweh ^H3068 will come ^H3615 to ^H3615 an ^H3615 end ^H3615.

29 For ^H3588 [fn]you will be ^H954 ashamed ^H954 of the [fn]oaks ^H352 which ^H834 you have desired ^H2530,

And you will be humiliated ^H2659 because of the gardens ^H1593 which ^H834 you have chosen ^H977.

30 For you will be like [fn]an oak ^H424 whose leaf ^H5929 withers ^H5034 away ^H5034

Or as a garden ^H1593 that has ^H369 no ^H369 water ^H4325.

31 And the strong ^H2634 man ^H2634 will become ^H1961 tinder ^H5296,

His work ^H6467 also a spark ^H5213.

Thus they shall both ^H8147 burn ^H1197 together ^H3162,

And there ^H369 will ^H369 be ^H369 none ^H369 to quench ^H3518 them.
