An Oracle Concerning Damascus

1 The [fn]oracle ^H4853 concerning Damascus ^H1834.

“Behold ^H2009, Damascus ^H1834 is about to be removed ^H5493 from being a city ^H5892

And will become ^H1961 a fallen ^H4654 ruin ^H4596.

2 “The cities ^H5892 [fn]of Aroer ^H6177 are forsaken ^H5800;

They will be for flocks ^H5739, and they will lie ^H7257 down ^H7257 in them;

And there ^H369 will ^H369 be ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H369 to cause ^H2729 them to tremble ^H2729.

3 “And the [fn]fortified ^H4013 city ^H4013 will cease ^H7673 from Ephraim ^H669,

And [fn]sovereignty ^H4467 from Damascus ^H1834

And the remnant ^H7605 of Aram ^H758;

They will be like the glory ^H3519 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478,”

Declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635.

4 Now it will be in that day ^H3117, that the glory ^H3519 of Jacob ^H3290 will [fn]wane ^H1809,

And the fatness ^H4924 of his flesh ^H1320 will become ^H7329 lean ^H7329.

5 And it will be even like the [fn]reaper ^H622 gathering ^H7105 the standing ^H7054 grain ^H7054,

Or it will be like one gleaning ^H3950 ears ^H7641 of ^H7641 grain ^H7641

7 In that day ^H3117 man ^H120 will have ^H8159 regard ^H8159 for his Maker ^H6213

And his eyes ^H5869 will look ^H7200 to the Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918 of Israel ^H3478.

8 He will not have ^H8159 regard ^H8159 for the altars ^H4196, the work ^H4639 of his hands ^H3027,

Nor ^H3808 will he look ^H7200 to that which ^H834 his fingers ^H676 have made ^H6213,

Even the [fn]Asherim ^H842 and [fn]incense ^H2553 stands ^H2553.

9 In that day ^H3117 [fn]their strong ^H4581 cities ^H5892 will be like [fn]forsaken ^H5805 places ^H5805 in the forest ^H2793,

Or like [fn]branches ^H534 which ^H834 they forsook ^H5800 before ^H4480 H6440 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478;

And [fn]the land will be a desolation ^H8077.

10 For you have forgotten ^H7911 the God ^H430 of your salvation ^H3468

And have not remembered ^H2142 the rock ^H6697 of your strong ^H4581 defense ^H4581.

Therefore ^H5921 H3651 you plant ^H5193 delightful ^H5282 plants ^H5194

And set ^H2232 them with vine ^H2156 branches ^H2156 of a strange ^H2114 god.

11 In the day ^H3117 that you plant ^H5194 it you carefully ^H5473 fence ^H5473 it in,

And in the morning ^H1242 you cause ^H6524 your seed ^H2233 to ^H6524 flourish ^H6524;

But the harvest ^H7105 will be a heap ^H5067

13 The nations ^H3816 rumble ^H7582 on like the rumbling ^H7588 of many ^H7227 waters ^H4325,

But He will rebuke ^H1605 them, and they will flee ^H5127 far ^H4801 away ^H4801,

And be pursued ^H7291 like chaff ^H4671 in the mountains ^H2022 before ^H6440 the wind ^H7307,

Or like whirling ^H1534 dust ^H1534 before ^H6440 a whirlwind ^H5492.

14 At evening ^H6153 time ^H6256, behold ^H2009, there is terror ^H1091!

Before ^H2962 morning ^H1242 they ^H369 are ^H369 no ^H369 more ^H369.

[fn]Such ^H2088 will be the portion ^H2506 of those who pillage ^H962 us

And the lot ^H1486 of those who plunder ^H962 us.
