Woe to Ariel

1 Woe ^H1945, O [fn]Ariel ^H740, [fn]Ariel ^H740 the city ^H7151 where David ^H1732 once camped ^H2583!

Add ^H3254 year ^H8141 to year ^H8141, [fn]observe ^H5362 your feasts ^H2282 on schedule ^H5362.

2 I will bring ^H6693 distress ^H6693 to [fn]Ariel ^H740,

And she will be a city of mourning ^H8386 and moaning ^H592;

And she will be like an Ariel ^H740 to me.

3 And I will camp ^H2583 against ^H5921 you [fn]encircling ^H1754 you,

And I will fortify ^H6696 siegeworks ^H4674 against ^H5921 you,

And I will raise ^H6965 up ^H6965 fortifications ^H4694 against ^H5921 you.

4 Then you will be brought ^H8213 low ^H8213;

From the earth ^H776 you will speak ^H1696,

And from the dust ^H6083 where you are prostrate ^H7817

Your words ^H565 will come.

Your voice ^H6963 will also be like that of a [fn]spirit ^H178 from the ground ^H776,

And your speech ^H565 will whisper ^H6850 from the dust ^H6083.

5 But it will be that the multitude ^H1995 of your [fn]enemies ^H2114 will become ^H1961 like fine ^H1851 dust ^H80,

And the multitude ^H1995 of the ruthless ^H6184 ones ^H6184 like the chaff ^H4671 which [fn]blows ^H5674 away ^H5674;

And it will happen ^H1961 instantly ^H6621, suddenly ^H6597.

6 From Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 you will be punished ^H6485 with thunder ^H7482 and earthquake ^H7494 and loud ^H1419 noise ^H6963,

With whirlwind ^H5492 and tempest ^H5591 and the flame ^H3851 of a consuming ^H398 fire ^H784.

7 And it will be that the multitude ^H1995 of all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 who wage ^H6633 war ^H6633 against ^H5921 [fn]Ariel ^H740,

Even all ^H3605 who wage ^H6633 war ^H6633 against her and her stronghold ^H4685, and who distress ^H6693 her,

Will be like a dream ^H2472, a vision ^H2377 of the night ^H3915.

8 And it will be as when ^H834 a hungry ^H7457 man ^H7457 dreams ^H2492—

9 Astonish ^H4102 yourselves and be ^H8539 astonished ^H8539,

Blind ^H8173 yourselves and be blind ^H8173;

They become ^H7937 drunk ^H7937, but not with wine ^H3196;

They stagger ^H5128, but not with strong ^H7941 drink ^H7941.

10 For Yahweh ^H3068 has poured ^H5258 over ^H5921 you a spirit ^H7307 of deep ^H8639 sleep ^H8639;

He has shut ^H6105 your eyes ^H5869, the prophets ^H5030;

And He has covered ^H3680 your heads ^H7218, the seers ^H2374.

11 The entire ^H3605 vision ^H2380 will be to you like the words ^H1697 of a sealed ^H2856 [fn]book ^H5612, which ^H834 when they give ^H5414 it to the one who [fn]is literate ^H3045 H5612, saying ^H559, “Please ^H4994 read ^H7121 this ^H2088,” he will say ^H559, “I cannot ^H3201 H3808, for it is sealed ^H2856.”

13 Then the Lord ^H136 said ^H559,

“Because ^H3282 H3588 this ^H2088 people ^H5971 draw ^H5066 near ^H5066 with their mouth ^H6310

And honor ^H3513 Me with their lips ^H8193,

But they remove ^H7368 their hearts ^H3820 far ^H7368 from Me,

And their fear ^H3372 of Me is ^H1961 in the command ^H4687 of men ^H376 learned ^H3925 by rote,

14 Therefore ^H3651 behold ^H2009, I will once again ^H3254 deal ^H6381 marvelously ^H6381 with this ^H2088 people ^H5971, wondrously ^H6382 marvelous ^H6381;

And the wisdom ^H2451 of their wise ^H2450 men ^H2450 will perish ^H6,

And the discernment ^H998 of their discerning ^H995 men ^H995 will be hidden ^H5641.”

15 Woe ^H1945 to those who deeply ^H6009 hide ^H5641 their counsel ^H6098 from Yahweh ^H3068,

And whose deeds ^H4639 are done in a dark ^H4285 place ^H4285,

And they say ^H559, “Who ^H4310 sees ^H7200 us?” or “Who ^H4310 knows ^H3045 us?”

16 You turn ^H2016 things around ^H2016!

Shall the potter ^H3335 be considered ^H2803 [fn]as equal with the clay ^H2563,

That what ^H4639 is made ^H4639 would say ^H559 to its maker ^H6213, “He did not make ^H6213 me”;

Or what ^H3336 is formed ^H3335 say ^H559 to him who formed ^H3335 it, “He has no ^H3808 understanding ^H995”?

The Afflicted Will Rejoice

17 Is it not yet ^H5750 just a little ^H4592 while ^H4592

[fn]Before Lebanon ^H3844 will be turned ^H7725 into a fruitful ^H3759 orchard ^H3759,

And the fruitful ^H3759 orchard ^H3759 will be counted ^H2803 as a forest ^H3293?

19 The afflicted ^H6035 also will increase ^H3254 their gladness ^H8057 in Yahweh ^H3068,

And the needy ^H34 of mankind ^H120 will rejoice ^H1523 in the Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918 of Israel ^H3478.

20 For the ruthless ^H6184 will come ^H656 to ^H656 an ^H656 end ^H656 and the scoffer ^H3887 will be finished ^H3615,

Indeed all ^H3605 who are ^H8245 watching ^H8245 out ^H8245 to ^H8245 do ^H8245 evil ^H205 will be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772;

21 Who [fn]cause a person ^H120 to sin ^H2398 by a word ^H1697,

“Jacob ^H3290 shall not now ^H6258 be ^H954 ashamed ^H954, and now ^H6258 his face ^H6440 shall not ^H3808 turn ^H2357 pale ^H2357;

23 But when ^H3588 [fn]he sees ^H7200 his children ^H3206, the work ^H4639 of My hands ^H3027, in his midst ^H7130,

They will sanctify ^H6942 My name ^H8034;

Indeed, they will sanctify ^H6942 the Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918 of Jacob ^H3290

And will stand ^H6206 trembling ^H6206 before the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478.

24 “Those who err ^H8582 in spirit ^H7307 will know ^H3045 discernment ^H998,

And those who [fn]criticize ^H7279 will [fn]gain ^H3925 learning ^H3948.
