Yahweh Will Judge Judah’s Leaders

1 For behold ^H2009, the Lord ^H136, Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, is going to remove ^H5493 from Jerusalem ^H3389 and Judah ^H3063

Both [fn]supply ^H4937 and support ^H4938, the whole ^H3605 [fn]supply ^H4937 of bread ^H3899

And the whole ^H3605 [fn]supply ^H4937 of water ^H4325,

2 The mighty ^H1368 man ^H1368 and the man of war ^H4421,

The judge ^H8199 and the prophet ^H5030,

The diviner ^H7080 and the elder ^H2205,

3 The commander ^H8269 of fifty ^H2572 and the [fn]highly ^H5375 H6440 respected ^H5375 H6440 man,

The counselor ^H3289 and the wise ^H2450 craftsman ^H2796,

And the experienced ^H995 enchanter ^H3908.

4 And I will make ^H5414 young ^H5288 men ^H5288 their princes ^H8269,

And [fn]capricious ^H8586 children ^H8586 will rule ^H4910 over them,

5 And the people ^H5971 will be oppressed ^H5065,

Each ^H376 one ^H376 by another ^H376, and each ^H376 one ^H376 by his neighbor ^H7453;

The youth ^H5288 will overwhelm ^H7292 the elder ^H2205

And the dishonorable ^H7034 against the honorable ^H3513.

6 When ^H3588 a man ^H376 grasps ^H8610 his brother ^H251 in his father’s ^H1 house ^H1004, saying,

“You have a cloak ^H8071, you shall be our ruler ^H7101,

And these ^H2088 ruins ^H4384 will be under ^H8478 your hand ^H3027,”

7 He will [fn]protest ^H5375 on that day ^H3117, saying ^H559,

“I will not be your [fn]healer ^H2280,

For in my house ^H1004 there ^H369 is ^H369 neither ^H369 bread ^H3899 nor ^H369 cloak ^H8071;

You should not appoint ^H7760 me ruler ^H7101 of the people ^H5971.”

8 For Jerusalem ^H3389 has stumbled ^H3782 and Judah ^H3063 has fallen ^H5307,

Because ^H3588 their tongue ^H3956 and their deeds ^H4611 are against ^H413 Yahweh ^H3068,

To rebel ^H4784 against [fn]His glorious ^H3519 presence ^H5869.

9 [fn]The expression ^H1971 of their faces ^H6440 answers ^H6030 against them,

And they declare ^H5046 their sin ^H2403 like Sodom ^H5467;

They do not even conceal ^H3582 it.

Woe ^H188 to their soul!

For they have dealt ^H1580 out ^H1580 evil ^H7451 on themselves.

10 Say ^H559 to the righteous ^H6662 that it will go well ^H2895 with them,

For they will eat ^H398 the fruit ^H6529 of their deeds ^H4611.

11 Woe ^H188 to the wicked ^H7563! It will go badly ^H7451 with him,

For [fn]what ^H1576 H3027 he has dealt ^H1576 H3027 out will be done ^H6213 to him.

12 O My people ^H5971! Their taskmasters ^H5065 [fn]are infants ^H5953,

And women ^H802 rule ^H4910 over them.

O My people ^H5971! Those who guide ^H833 you lead ^H8582 you astray ^H8582

And swallow ^H1104 up the way ^H1870 of your paths ^H734.

13 Yahweh ^H3068 takes ^H5324 His stand ^H5324 to contend ^H7378,

And stands ^H5975 to judge ^H1777 the peoples ^H5971.

14 Yahweh ^H3068 enters ^H935 into judgment ^H4941 with the elders ^H2205 of His people ^H5971 and His princes ^H8269,

“It is you who have consumed ^H1197 the vineyard ^H3754;

The plunder robbed ^H1500 of the afflicted ^H6041 is in your houses ^H1004.

15 “What ^H4100 do you mean by crushing ^H1792 My people ^H5971

And grinding ^H2912 the face ^H6440 of the afflicted ^H6041?”

Declares ^H5002 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635.

Yahweh Will Judge Zion’s Daughters

16 Moreover, Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559, “Because ^H3282 H3588 the daughters ^H1323 of Zion ^H6726 are ^H1361 haughty ^H1361

And walk ^H1980 with outstretched ^H5186 necks ^H1627 and seductive ^H8265 eyes ^H5869,

And go ^H1980 along with mincing ^H2952 steps ^H2952

And tinkle ^H5913 the ^H5913 bangles ^H5913 on their feet ^H7272,

17 Therefore the Lord ^H136 will smite ^H5596 the skull ^H6936 of the daughters ^H1323 of Zion ^H6726 with ^H5596 scabs ^H5596,

18 In that day ^H3117 the Lord ^H136 will remove ^H5493 the beauty ^H8597 of their anklets ^H5914, headbands ^H7636, crescent ^H7720 ornaments ^H7720,

19 dangling ^H5188 earrings ^H5188, bracelets ^H8285, veils ^H7479, 20 headdresses ^H6287, ankle ^H6807 chains ^H6807, sashes ^H7196, perfume ^H5315 boxes ^H1004, enchanted ^H3908 charms ^H3908, 21 [fn]finger ^H2885 rings ^H2885, nose ^H639 rings ^H5141, 22 festal ^H4254 robes ^H4254, outer ^H4595 tunics ^H4595, cloaks ^H4304, money ^H2754 purses ^H2754, 23 hand ^H1549 mirrors ^H1549, undergarments ^H5466, turbans ^H6797, and shawls ^H7289.

24 Now it will be ^H1961 that instead ^H8478 of ^H8478 [fn]sweet ^H1314 perfume ^H1314 there will be the smell of rot ^H4716;

Instead ^H8478 of ^H8478 a belt ^H2290, a rope ^H5364;

Instead ^H8478 of ^H8478 well-set ^H4748 hair ^H4748, a plucked-out ^H7144 scalp ^H7144;

Instead ^H8478 of ^H8478 fine ^H6614 clothes ^H6614, a donning ^H4228 of sackcloth ^H8242;

And branding ^H3587 instead ^H8478 of ^H8478 beauty ^H3308.

25 Your men ^H4962 will fall ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719

And your [fn]mighty ^H1369 ones ^H1369 in battle ^H4421.

26 And her [fn]gates ^H6607 will lament ^H578 and mourn ^H56,

And deserted ^H5352 she will sit ^H3427 on the ground ^H776.
