Jeremiah’s Plea

1 Righteous ^H6662 are You, O Yahweh ^H3068, when I would plead ^H7378 my case ^H7378 with You;

Indeed ^H389 I would speak ^H1696 matters ^H4941 of ^H4941 justice ^H4941 with You:

Why ^H4069 has the way ^H1870 of the wicked ^H7563 succeeded ^H6743?

Why are ^H7951 all ^H3605 those who deal ^H898 in treachery ^H899 complacent ^H7951?

2 You have planted ^H5193 them; they have also ^H1571 taken ^H8327 root ^H8327;

They grow ^H1980; they have even ^H1571 produced ^H6213 fruit ^H6529.

You are near ^H7138 [fn]to their lips ^H6310

But far ^H7350 from their [fn]inmost ^H3629 being ^H3629.

3 But You, O Yahweh ^H3068, You know ^H3045 me;

You see ^H7200 me;

And You test ^H974 my heart’s ^H3820 attitude toward ^H854 You.

Drag ^H5423 them off ^H5423 like sheep ^H6629 for the slaughter ^H2878

And [fn]set ^H6942 them apart ^H6942 for a day ^H3117 of carnage ^H2028!

4 How ^H4970 long ^H5704 H4970 is the land ^H776 to mourn ^H56

And the plants ^H6212 of every ^H3605 field ^H7704 to dry ^H3001 up ^H3001?

Because of the evil ^H7451 of those who inhabit ^H3427 it,

Animals ^H929 and birds ^H5775 have been swept ^H5595 away ^H5595,

Because ^H3588 men have said ^H559, “He will not see ^H7200 our latter ^H319 ending ^H319.”

Yahweh Answers Jeremiah

5 “If ^H3588 you have run ^H7323 with footmen ^H7273 and they have tired ^H3811 you out ^H3811,

Then how ^H349 can you compete ^H2734 with horses ^H5483?

If you fall ^H982 down ^H982 in a land ^H776 of peace ^H7965,

How ^H349 will you do ^H6213 in the [fn]thicket ^H1347 of the Jordan ^H3383?

6 “For even ^H1571 your brothers ^H251 and the household ^H1004 of your father ^H1,

Even ^H1571 they have dealt ^H898 treacherously ^H898 with you,

Even ^H1571 they have called ^H7121 aloud ^H4392 after ^H310 you.

Do not believe ^H539 them, although ^H3588 they may say ^H1696 nice ^H2896 things ^H2896 to you.”

7 “I have forsaken ^H5800 My house ^H1004;

I have abandoned ^H5203 My inheritance ^H5159;

I have given ^H5414 the beloved ^H3033 of My soul ^H5315

Into the hand ^H3709 of her enemies ^H340.

8 “My inheritance ^H5159 has become ^H1961 to Me

Like a lion ^H738 in the forest ^H3293;

She has given ^H5414 forth its voice ^H6963 against ^H5921 Me;

Therefore ^H5921 H3651 I have come to hate ^H8130 her.

9 “Is My inheritance ^H5159 like a speckled ^H6641 bird ^H5861 of ^H5861 prey ^H5861 to Me?

Are the birds ^H5861 of ^H5861 prey ^H5861 against ^H5921 her on every ^H5439 side ^H5439?

Go ^H1980, gather ^H622 all ^H3605 the beasts ^H2416 of the field ^H7704,

Bring ^H857 them to devour ^H398!

10 “Many ^H7227 shepherds ^H7462 have ruined ^H7843 My vineyard ^H3754;

They have trampled ^H947 down ^H947 My portion ^H2513;

They have made ^H5414 My desired ^H2532 portion ^H2513

A desolate ^H8077 wilderness ^H4057.

11 “[fn]It has been made ^H7760 a desolation ^H8077;

Desolate ^H8076, it mourns ^H56 [fn]before ^H5921 Me;

The whole ^H3605 land ^H776 has been made ^H8074 desolate ^H8074

Because ^H3588 no ^H369 man ^H376 sets ^H7760 it upon his heart ^H3820.

12 “On all ^H3605 the [fn]bare ^H8205 heights ^H8205 in the wilderness ^H4057

Destroyers ^H7703 have come ^H935,

For a sword ^H2719 of Yahweh ^H3068 is devouring ^H398

From one end ^H7097 of the land ^H776 even to the [fn]other ^H7097 H776;

There ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 peace ^H7965 for any ^H3605 flesh ^H1320.

13 “They have sown ^H2232 wheat ^H2406 and have reaped ^H7114 thorns ^H6975;

They have strained ^H2470 themselves [fn]to no ^H3808 profit ^H3276.

But be ^H954 ashamed ^H954 of your produce ^H8393

Because ^H4480 of the burning ^H2740 anger ^H639 of Yahweh ^H3068.”

14 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 concerning ^H5921 all ^H3605 My evil ^H7451 neighbors ^H7934 who beat ^H5060 at the inheritance ^H5159 with which ^H834 I have caused ^H5157 My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478 to ^H5157 inherit ^H5157, “Behold ^H2009, I am about to uproot ^H5428 them from their land ^H127 and will uproot ^H5428 the house ^H1004 of Judah ^H3063 from among ^H8432 them.

15 And it will come ^H1961 about ^H1961 that after ^H310 I have uprooted ^H5428 them, I will return ^H7725 and have ^H7355 compassion ^H7355 on ^H7355 them; and I will cause ^H7725 them to return ^H7725, each ^H376 one ^H376 to his inheritance ^H5159 and each ^H376 one ^H376 to his land ^H776. 16 Then if ^H518 they will really ^H3925 learn ^H3925 the ways ^H1870 of My people ^H5971, to swear ^H7650 by My name ^H8034, ‘As Yahweh ^H3068 lives ^H2416,’ even ^H834 as they taught ^H3925 My people ^H5971 to swear ^H7650 by Baal ^H1168, they will be built ^H1129 up ^H1129 in the midst ^H8432 of My people ^H5971. 17 But if ^H518 they will not listen ^H8085, then I will uproot ^H5428 that nation ^H1471, uproot ^H5428 and make it perish ^H6,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.
