Jeremiah’s Message for Zedekiah

1 The word ^H1697 which ^H834 came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414 from Yahweh ^H3068 when King ^H4428 Zedekiah ^H6667 sent ^H7971 to him Pashhur ^H6583, the son ^H1121 of Malchijah ^H4441, and Zephaniah ^H6846 the priest ^H3548, the son ^H1121 of Maaseiah ^H4641, saying ^H559,

2 “Please ^H4994 inquire ^H1875 of Yahweh ^H3068 on our behalf ^H1157, for [fn]Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 is warring ^H3898 against ^H5921 us; perhaps ^H194 Yahweh ^H3068 will deal ^H6213 with us according to all ^H3605 His [fn]wonderful ^H6381 acts ^H6381, so that the enemy will go ^H5927 up ^H5927 from us.”

3 Then Jeremiah ^H3414 said ^H559 to them, “Thus ^H3541 you shall say ^H559 to Zedekiah ^H6667, 4 ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, “Behold ^H2009, I am about to turn ^H5437 back ^H5437 the weapons ^H3627 of war ^H4421 which ^H834 are in your hands ^H3027, with which ^H834 you are warring ^H3898 against ^H854 the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and the Chaldeans ^H3778 who are besieging ^H6696 H5921 you outside ^H4480 H2351 the wall ^H2346; and I will gather ^H622 them into the center ^H8432 of this ^H2088 city ^H5892. 5 I Myself ^H589 will war ^H3898 against ^H854 you with an outstretched ^H5186 hand ^H3027 and a strong ^H2389 arm ^H2220, even in anger ^H639 and wrath ^H2534 and great ^H1419 indignation ^H7110. 6 I will also strike ^H5221 down ^H5221 the inhabitants ^H3427 of this ^H2088 city ^H5892, both man ^H120 and beast ^H929; they will die ^H4191 of a great ^H1419 pestilence ^H1698. 7 Then afterwards ^H310 H3651,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “I will give ^H5414 over Zedekiah ^H6667 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 and his servants ^H5650 and the people ^H5971, even those who remain ^H7604 in this ^H2088 city ^H5892 from the pestilence ^H1698, the sword ^H2719, and the famine ^H7458, into the hand ^H3027 of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and into the hand ^H3027 of their enemies ^H340 and into the hand ^H3027 of those who seek ^H1245 their lives ^H5315; and he will strike ^H5221 them down ^H5221 with the edge ^H6310 of the sword ^H2719. He will not show ^H2347 pity ^H2347 on them nor ^H3808 spare ^H2550 nor ^H3808 have compassion ^H7355.”’

8 “You shall also say ^H559 to this ^H2088 people ^H5971, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, “Behold ^H2009, I set ^H5414 before ^H6440 you the way ^H1870 of life ^H2416 and the way ^H1870 of death ^H4194. 9 He who inhabits ^H3427 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 will die ^H4191 by the sword ^H2719 and by famine ^H7458 and by pestilence ^H1698; but he who goes ^H3318 out ^H3318 and falls ^H5307 away ^H5307 to the Chaldeans ^H3778 who are besieging ^H6696 H5921 you will live ^H2421, and he will have ^H1961 his own life ^H5315 as spoil ^H7998. 10 For I have set ^H7760 My face ^H6440 against this ^H2088 city ^H5892 for [fn]evil ^H7451 and not for good ^H2896,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068. “It will be given ^H5414 into the hand ^H3027 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, and he will burn ^H8313 it with fire ^H784.”’

11 “Then say to the household ^H1004 of the king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, ‘Hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068, 12 O house ^H1004 of David ^H1732, thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068:

“Render ^H1777 justice ^H4941 [fn]every morning ^H1242;

And deliver ^H5337 the person who has been robbed ^H1497 from the [fn]power ^H3027 of his oppressor ^H6231,

Lest ^H6435 My wrath ^H2534 go ^H3318 forth ^H3318 like fire ^H784

And burn ^H1197 with none ^H369 to extinguish ^H3518 it,

Because ^H4480 H6440 of the evil ^H7455 of their deeds ^H4611.

13 “Behold ^H2009, I am against ^H413 you, O inhabitant ^H3427 of the valley ^H6010,

O [fn]rocky ^H6697 plain ^H4334,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068,

“You men who say ^H559, ‘Who ^H4310 will come ^H5181 down ^H5181 against ^H5921 us?

Or who ^H4310 will enter ^H935 into our dwelling ^H4585 places ^H4585?’

14 “But I will punish ^H6485 you according to the [fn]results ^H6529 of your deeds ^H4611,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068,

“And I will kindle ^H3341 a fire ^H784 in its forest ^H3293

That it may devour ^H398 all ^H3605 its surroundings ^H5439.”’”
