Eliphaz Says Job Must Repent

1 Then Eliphaz ^H464 the Temanite ^H8489 answered ^H6030 and said ^H559,

2 “Can a mighty man ^H1397 be ^H5532 of ^H5532 use ^H5532 to God ^H410,

Or ^H3588 an insightful ^H7919 man be ^H5532 useful ^H5532 to himself?

3 “Is there any pleasure ^H2656 to [fn]the Almighty ^H7706 if ^H3588 you are ^H6663 righteous ^H6663,

Or ^H518 profit ^H1215 if ^H3588 you make ^H8552 your ways ^H1870 perfect ^H8552?

4 “Is it because ^H4480 of your reverent fear ^H3374 that He reproves ^H3198 you,

That He enters ^H935 into judgment ^H4941 against ^H5973 you?

5 “Is not your evil ^H7451 great ^H7227,

And your iniquities ^H5771 without ^H369 end ^H7093?

6 “For you have taken ^H2254 pledges ^H2254 of your brothers ^H251 without ^H2600 cause ^H2600,

And stripped ^H6584 the clothing ^H889 of the naked ^H6174.

7 “To the weary ^H5889 you have given ^H8248 no ^H3808 water ^H4325 to ^H8248 drink ^H8248,

And from the hungry ^H7457 you have withheld ^H4513 bread ^H3899.

8 “But the earth ^H776 belongs to the mighty ^H2220 man ^H376,

9 “You have sent ^H7971 widows ^H490 away ^H7971 empty ^H7387,

And an abundance ^H8229 of water ^H4325 covers ^H3680 you.

12 “Is not God ^H433 in the height ^H1363 of heaven ^H8064?

Look ^H7200 also at the [fn]distant ^H7218 stars ^H3556, how ^H3588 high ^H7311 they are ^H7311!

13 “You say ^H559, ‘What ^H4100 does God ^H410 know ^H3045?

Can He judge ^H8199 through ^H1157 the dense ^H6205 gloom ^H6205?

14 ‘Clouds ^H5645 are a hiding ^H5643 place ^H5643 for Him, so that He cannot ^H3808 see ^H7200;

And He walks ^H1980 on the [fn]vault ^H2329 of heaven ^H8064.’

15 “Will you keep ^H8104 to the ancient ^H5769 path ^H734

Which ^H834 wicked ^H205 men ^H4962 have trod ^H1869,

16 Who ^H834 were snatched ^H7059 away ^H7059 before their time ^H6256,

Whose foundations ^H3247 were [fn]washed ^H3332 away ^H3332 by a river ^H5104?

17 “They said ^H559 to God ^H410, ‘Depart ^H5493 from us!’

And ‘What ^H4100 can [fn]the Almighty ^H7706 do ^H6466 to them?’

18 “Yet He filled ^H4390 their houses ^H1004 with good ^H2896 things,

But the counsel ^H6098 of the wicked ^H7563 is ^H7368 far ^H7368 from me.

19 “The righteous ^H6662 see ^H7200 and are ^H8055 glad ^H8055,

And the innocent ^H5355 mock ^H3932 them,

20 Saying, ‘Truly ^H518 H3808 those who rise ^H7009 against us are wiped ^H3582 out ^H3582,

And their [fn]abundance ^H3499 the fire ^H784 has consumed ^H398.’

21 “[fn]Yield ^H5532 now ^H4994 and be at peace ^H7999 with Him;

Thereby good ^H2896 will come ^H935 to you.

22 “Please ^H4994 receive ^H3947 [fn]instruction ^H8451 from His mouth ^H6310

And set ^H7760 His words ^H561 in your heart ^H3824.

23 “If ^H518 you return ^H7725 to [fn]the Almighty ^H7706, you will be [fn]restored ^H1129;

If you remove ^H7368 unrighteousness ^H5766 far ^H7368 from your tent ^H168,

24 And put ^H7896 your [fn]gold ^H1220 in the dust ^H6083,

And the gold of Ophir ^H211 among the stones ^H6697 of the brooks ^H5158,

25 Then [fn]the Almighty ^H7706 will be your [fn]gold ^H1220

And choice ^H8443 silver ^H3701 to you.

26 “For then ^H227 you will delight ^H6026 in [fn]the Almighty ^H7706

And lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 your face ^H6440 to God ^H433.

27 “You will entreat ^H6279 Him, and He will hear ^H8085 you;

And you will pay ^H7999 your vows ^H5088.

28 “You will also decree ^H1504 a thing ^H561, and it will be established ^H6965 for you;

And light ^H216 will shine ^H5050 on your ways ^H1870.

29 “When ^H3588 [fn]some are cast ^H8213 down ^H8213, you will speak ^H559 with [fn]confidence ^H1466,

And the [fn]humble ^H7807 H5869 person ^H7807 H5869 He will save ^H3467.

30 “He will provide ^H4422 escape for one who is not innocent ^H5355,

And he will escape ^H4422 through the cleanness ^H1252 of your hands ^H3709.”
