Elihu Answers That God Will Be Just

1 Then Elihu ^H453 answered ^H6030 and said ^H559,

2 “Hear ^H8085 my speech ^H4405, you wise ^H2450 men ^H2450,

And give ^H238 ear ^H238 to me, you who know ^H3045.

3 “For the ear ^H241 tests ^H974 words ^H4405

As the palate ^H2441 tastes ^H2938 food ^H398.

4 “Let us choose ^H977 for ourselves what ^H4941 is ^H4941 just ^H4941;

Let us know ^H3045 among ^H996 ourselves what ^H4100 is good ^H2896.

5 “For Job ^H347 has said ^H559, ‘I am ^H6663 righteous ^H6663,

But God ^H410 has removed ^H5493 my justice ^H4941;

6 [fn]Should I lie ^H3576 concerning ^H5921 my justice ^H4941?

My [fn]wound ^H2671 is incurable ^H605, though I am without ^H1097 transgression ^H6588.’

7 “What ^H4310 man ^H1397 is like Job ^H347,

Who ^H4310 drinks ^H8354 up ^H8354 mocking ^H3933 like water ^H4325,

8 But he travels ^H732 in company ^H2274 with the workers ^H6466 of iniquity ^H205,

And walks ^H1980 with wicked ^H7562 men ^H376?

9 “For he has said ^H559, ‘It is ^H5532 of ^H5532 no ^H3808 use ^H5532 to a man ^H1397

When he [fn]is pleased ^H7521 with God ^H430.’

10 “Therefore ^H3651, listen ^H8085 to me, you men ^H376 with a heart ^H3824 of wisdom.

Far ^H2486 be it from God ^H410 to do injustice ^H7562,

And from the Almighty ^H7706 to do wrong ^H5766.

11 “For He pays ^H7999 a man ^H120 according to his work ^H6467,

And makes [fn]him find ^H4672 it according to his way ^H734.

12 “Truly ^H637 H551, God ^H410 will not act ^H7561 wickedly ^H7561,

And the Almighty ^H7706 will not pervert ^H5791 justice ^H4941.

13 “Who ^H4310 appointed ^H6485 Him with ^H6485 authority ^H6485 over ^H5921 the earth ^H776?

And who ^H4310 has laid ^H7760 on Him the whole ^H3605 world ^H8398?

14 “If ^H518 He should set ^H7760 His heart ^H3820 on it,

If He should gather ^H622 to Himself His spirit ^H7307 and His breath ^H5397,

15 All ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 would breathe ^H1478 its last ^H1478 together ^H3162,

And man ^H120 would return ^H7725 to dust ^H6083.

16 “But if ^H518 you have understanding ^H998, hear ^H8085 this ^H2088;

Give ^H238 ear ^H238 to the sound ^H6963 of my speech ^H4405.

17 “Shall one who hates ^H8130 justice ^H4941 [fn]rule ^H2280?

And will you condemn ^H7561 the righteous ^H6662 mighty ^H3524 One ^H3524,

18 Who says ^H559 to a king ^H4428, ‘Vile ^H1100 one ^H1100,’

To nobles ^H5081, ‘Wicked ^H7563 ones ^H7563’;

19 Who ^H834 shows ^H5375 no ^H3808 partiality ^H5375 H6440 to princes ^H8269

Nor ^H3808 recognizes ^H5234 the rich ^H7771 above ^H6440 the poor ^H1800,

For they all ^H3605 are the work ^H4639 of His hands ^H3027?

20 “In a moment ^H7281 they die ^H4191, and at midnight ^H2676 H3915

People ^H5971 are shaken ^H1607 and pass ^H5674 away ^H5674,

And the mighty ^H47 are taken ^H5493 away ^H5493 without ^H3808 a hand ^H3027.

21 “For His eyes ^H5869 are upon the ways ^H1870 of a man ^H376,

And He sees ^H7200 all ^H3605 his steps ^H6806.

22 “There ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 darkness ^H2822 or shadow ^H6757 of death ^H6757

Where ^H8033 the workers ^H6466 of iniquity ^H205 may hide ^H5641 themselves.

23 “[fn]For He does not need to consider ^H7760 a man ^H376 further ^H5750,

That he should go ^H1980 before ^H413 God ^H410 in judgment ^H4941.

24 “He breaks ^H7489 in pieces mighty ^H3524 men ^H3524 without ^H3808 searching ^H2714 anything out ^H2714,

And sets ^H5975 others ^H312 in ^H8478 their place ^H8478.

25 “Therefore ^H3651 He recognizes ^H5234 their labors ^H4566,

And He overthrows ^H2015 them in the night ^H3915,

And they are crushed ^H1792.

26 “He strikes ^H5606 them like ^H8478 the wicked ^H7563

[fn]In a public ^H7200 place ^H4725,

27 Because ^{H834 H5921 H3651} they turned ^H5493 aside ^H5493 from following ^H310 Him,

And had ^H7919 no ^H3808 insight ^H7919 from any ^H3605 of His ways ^H1870;

28 So that they caused the cry ^H6818 of the poor ^H1800 to come ^H935 to Him,

And that He might hear ^H8085 the cry ^H6818 of the afflicted ^H6041.

29 So if He keeps ^H8252 quiet ^H8252, who ^H4310 then can condemn ^H7561?

So if He hides ^H5641 His face ^H6440, who ^H4310 then can perceive ^H7789 Him?

He is above ^H5921 both nation ^H1471 and man ^H120 altogether ^H3162,

30 So ^H4480 that ^H4480 godless ^H2611 men ^H120 would not ^H4480 rule ^H4427

Nor ^H4480 be snares ^H4170 of the people ^H5971.

31 “For has anyone said ^H559 to God ^H410,

‘I have borne ^H5375 chastisement;

I will not work ^H2254 destructively ^H2254 anymore;

32 Instruct ^H3384 me what I do not behold ^H2372;

If ^H518 I have done ^H6466 injustice ^H5766,

I will not do ^H3254 it again ^H3254’?

33 “Shall He repay ^H7999 on your terms ^H5973, because ^H3588 you have rejected ^H3988 it?

For you must choose ^H977, and not I;

Therefore say ^H1696 what ^H4100 you know ^H3045.

34 “Men ^H376 with a heart ^H3824 of wisdom will say ^H559 to me,

And a wise ^H2450 man ^H1397 who hears ^H8085 me,

35 ‘Job ^H347 speaks ^H1696 without ^H3808 knowledge ^H1847,

And his words ^H1697 are without ^H3808 insight ^H7919.

36 ‘Job ^H347 ought ^H15 to be tested ^H974 [fn]to the limit ^H5331

Because ^H5921 he answers ^H8666 like wicked ^H205 men ^H376.

37 ‘For he adds ^H3254 transgression ^H6588 to his sin ^H2403;

He strikes ^H5606 his hands together among ^H996 us,

And multiplies ^H7235 his words ^H561 against God ^H410.’”
