Jesus Appears at the Sea of Galilee

1 After ^G3326 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 Jesus ^G2424 [fn]manifested ^G5319 Himself ^G1438 again ^G3825 to the disciples ^G3101 at the Sea ^G2281 of Tiberias ^G5085, and He manifested ^G5319 Himself in ^G3779 this ^G3779 way ^G3779.

2 Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074, and Thomas ^G2381 called ^G3004 [fn]Didymus ^G1324, and Nathanael ^G3482 of Cana ^G2580 in Galilee ^G1056, and the sons of Zebedee ^G2199, and two ^G1417 others ^G243 of His disciples ^G3101 were together ^G3674. 3 Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074 *said ^G3004 to them, “I am going ^G5217 fishing ^G232.” They *said ^G3004 to him, “We will also ^G2532 come ^G2064 with you.” They went ^G1831 out ^G1831 and got ^G1684 into the boat ^G4143; and that night ^G3571 they caught ^G4084 nothing ^G3762.

4 But when the day ^G4407 was now ^G2235 breaking ^G1096, Jesus ^G2424 stood ^G2476 on the beach ^G123; yet ^G3305 the disciples ^G3101 did not know ^G6063 that it was Jesus ^G2424. 5 So ^G3767 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “Children ^G3813, do you have ^G2192 [fn]any ^G5100 fish ^G4371?” They answered ^G611 Him, “No ^G3756.” 6 And He said ^G3004 to them, “Cast ^G906 the net ^G1350 on the right ^G1188 side ^G3313 of the boat ^G4143 and you will find ^G2147 some.” So ^G3767 they cast ^G906, and then ^G3765 they were ^G2480 not able ^G2480 to haul ^G1670 it in because ^G575 of the great ^G4128 number ^G4128 of fish ^G2486. 7 Therefore ^G3767 that disciple ^G3101 whom ^G3739 Jesus ^G2424 loved ^G25 *said ^G3004 to Peter ^G4074, “It is the Lord ^G2962.” So ^G3767 when Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074 heard ^G191 that it was the Lord ^G2962, he put ^G1241 his outer ^G1903 garment ^G1903 on (for he was stripped ^G1131 for work), and cast ^G906 himself ^G1438 into the sea ^G2281. 8 But the other ^G243 disciples ^G3101 came ^G2064 in the little ^G4142 boat ^G4142, for they were not far ^G3112 from the land ^G1093, but about ^G5613 [fn]two ^G1250 hundred ^G1250 cubits ^G4083 away ^G575, dragging ^G4951 the net ^G1350 full of fish ^G2486.

9 So ^G3767 when ^G5613 they got ^G576 out ^G576 on the land ^G1093, they *saw ^G991 a charcoal ^G439 fire ^G439 in place ^G2749 and fish ^G3795 placed ^G1945 on it, and bread ^G740. 10 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “Bring ^G5342 some ^G575 of the fish ^G3795 which ^G3739 you have now ^G3568 caught ^G4084.” 11 Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074 went ^G305 up ^G305 and drew ^G1670 the net ^G1350 to land ^G1093, full ^G3324 of large ^G3173 fish ^G2486, 153 ^{G1540 G4004 G5140}; and although there were so ^G5118 many ^G5118, the net ^G1350 was not torn ^G4977.

Jesus Provides Breakfast

12 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “Come ^G1205, have ^G709 breakfast ^G709.” None ^G3762 of the disciples ^G3101 dared ^G5111 to question ^G1833 Him, “Who ^G5101 are You?” knowing ^G6063 that it was the Lord ^G2962. 13 Jesus ^G2424 *came ^G2064 and *took ^G2983 the bread ^G740 and *gave ^G1325 it to them, and the fish ^G3795 likewise ^G3668. 14 This ^G3778 is now ^G2235 the third ^G5154 time ^G5154 that Jesus ^G2424 [fn]was manifested ^G5319 to the disciples ^G3101, after He was raised ^G1453 from the dead ^G3498.

Peter’s Restoration and Commission

15 So ^G3767 when ^G3753 they had finished ^G709 breakfast ^G709, Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074, “Simon ^G4613, son of John ^G2491, do you [fn]love ^G25 Me more ^G4183 than these ^G3778?” He *said ^G3004 to Him, “Yes ^G3483, Lord ^G2962; You know ^G6063 that I [fn]love ^G5368 You.” He *said ^G3004 to him, “Tend ^G1006 My lambs ^G721.”

16 He *said ^G3004 to him again ^G3825 a second ^G1208 time ^G1208, “Simon ^G4613, son of John ^G2491, do you [fn]love ^G25 Me?” He *said ^G3004 to Him, “Yes ^G3483, Lord ^G2962; You know ^G6063 that I [fn]love ^G5368 You.” He *said ^G3004 to him, “Shepherd ^G4165 My sheep ^G4263.” 17 He *said ^G3004 to him the third ^G5154 time ^G5154, “Simon ^G4613, son of John ^G2491, do you [fn]love ^G5368 Me?” Peter ^G4074 was grieved ^G3076 because ^G3754 He said ^G3004 to him the third ^G5154 time ^G5154, “Do you [fn]love ^G5368 Me?” And he said ^G3004 to Him, “Lord ^G2962, You know ^G6063 all ^G3956 things ^G3956; You know ^G1097 that I [fn]love ^G5368 You.” Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to him, “Tend ^G1006 My sheep ^G4263. 18 Truly ^G281, truly ^G281, I say ^G3004 to you, when ^G3753 you were younger ^G3501, you used to gird ^G2224 yourself ^G4572 and walk ^G4043 wherever ^G3699 you wished ^G2309; but when ^G3752 you grow ^G1095 old ^G1095, you will stretch ^G1614 out ^G1614 your hands ^G5495 and someone ^G243 else ^G243 will gird ^G2224 you, and bring ^G5342 you where ^G3699 you do not wish ^G2309 to go.” 19 Now ^G1161 this ^G3778 He said ^G3004, signifying ^G4591 by what ^G4169 kind ^G4169 of death ^G2288 he would glorify ^G1392 God ^G2316. And when He had spoken ^G3004 this ^G3778, He *said ^G3004 to him, “Follow ^G190 Me!”

Jesus’ Command to Follow Him

20 Peter ^G4074, turning ^G1994 around ^G1994, *saw ^G991 the disciple ^G3101 whom ^G3739 Jesus ^G2424 loved ^G25 following ^G190 them; the one who ^G3739 also ^G2532 had leaned ^G377 back ^G377 on His bosom ^G4738 at the supper ^G1173 and said ^G3004, “Lord ^G2962, who ^G5101 is the one who betrays ^G3860 You?”

21 So ^G3767 Peter ^G4074 seeing ^G3708 him *said ^G3004 to Jesus ^G2424, “Lord ^G2962, and what ^G5101 about this ^G3778 man ^G3778?” 22 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to him, “If ^G1437 I want ^G2309 him to remain ^G3306 until ^G2193 I come ^G2064, what ^G5101 is that to you? You follow ^G190 Me!” 23 Therefore ^G3767 this ^G3778 saying ^G3056 went ^G1831 out ^G1831 among ^G1519 the brothers ^G80 that this disciple ^G3101 would not die ^G599; yet ^G1161 Jesus ^G2424 did not say ^G3004 to him that he would not die ^G599, but only, “If ^G1437 I want ^G2309 him to remain ^G3306 until ^G2193 I come ^G2064, what ^G5101 is that to you?”

24 This ^G3778 is the disciple ^G3101 who is bearing ^G3140 witness ^G3140 to these ^G3778 things ^G3778 and wrote ^G1125 these ^G3778 things ^G3778, and we know ^G6063 that his witness ^G3141 is true ^G227.

25 And there are also ^G2532 many ^G4183 other ^G243 things ^G4183 which ^G3739 Jesus ^G2424 did ^G4160, which ^G3748 if ^G1437 they *were written ^G1125 one after the other ^G2956 G1520, I suppose ^G3633 that even ^G3761 the world ^G2889 itself ^G846 *could not contain ^G5562 the books ^G975 that *would be written ^G1125.
