Tola and Jair Judge Israel

1 Then after ^H310 Abimelech ^H40 died, Tola ^H8439 the son ^H1121 of Puah ^H6312, the son ^H1121 of Dodo ^H1734, a man ^H376 of Issachar ^H3485, arose ^H6965 to save ^H3467 Israel ^H3478; and he lived ^H3427 in Shamir ^H8069 in the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 of Ephraim ^H669.

2 And he judged ^H8199 Israel ^H3478 twenty-three ^H6242 H7969 years ^H8141. Then he died ^H4191 and was buried ^H6912 in Shamir ^H8069.

Israel Forsakes Yahweh Again

6 Then the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 again ^H3254 did ^H6213 what ^H7451 was evil ^H7451 in the eyes ^H5869 of Yahweh ^H3068 and served ^H5647 the Baals ^H1168 and the Ashtaroth ^H6252, the gods ^H430 of Aram ^H758, the gods ^H430 of Sidon ^H6721, the gods ^H430 of Moab ^H4124, the gods ^H430 of the sons ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983, and the gods ^H430 of the Philistines ^H6430; thus they forsook ^H5800 Yahweh ^H3068 and did not serve ^H5647 Him.

Israel Cries Out to Yahweh

10 And the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 cried ^H2199 out ^H2199 to Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559, “We have sinned ^H2398 against You, for indeed, we have forsaken ^H5800 our God ^H430 and served ^H5647 the Baals ^H1168.”

11 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians ^H4714, the Amorites ^H567, the sons ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983, and the Philistines ^H6430? 12 Also the Sidonians ^H6722, the Amalekites ^H6002, and the Maonites ^H4584 oppressed ^H3905 you. And you cried ^H6817 out ^H6817 to Me, and I saved ^H3467 you from their hand ^H3027. 13 Yet you have forsaken ^H5800 Me and served ^H5647 other ^H312 gods ^H430; therefore ^H3651 I will no ^H3808 longer ^H3254 save ^H3467 you. 14 Go ^H1980 and cry ^H2199 out ^H2199 to the gods ^H430 which ^H834 you have chosen ^H977; let them save ^H3467 you in the time ^H6256 of your distress ^H6869.” 15 Then the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 said ^H559 to Yahweh ^H3068, “We have sinned ^H2398, so You, do ^H6213 to us whatever ^H3605 seems good ^H2896 in Your eyes ^H5869; only ^H389 please ^H4994 deliver ^H5337 us this ^H2088 day ^H3117.” 16 So they removed ^H5493 the foreign ^H5236 gods ^H430 from among ^H7130 them and served ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068; and [fn]He could ^H7114 bear ^H7114 the trouble ^H5999 of Israel ^H3478 no ^H7114 longer ^H7114.

17 Then the sons ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983 were summoned ^H6817, and they camped ^H2583 in Gilead ^H1568. And the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 gathered ^H622 together and camped ^H2583 in Mizpah ^H4709. 18 And the people ^H5971, the princes ^H8269 of Gilead ^H1568, said ^H559 to one ^H376 another ^H7453, “Who ^H4310 is the man ^H376 who ^H834 will begin ^H2490 to fight ^H3898 against the sons ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983?
