Jesus Saves a Man with Many Demons

1 Then ^G2532 they came ^G2064 to the other ^G4008 side ^G4008 of the sea ^G2281, into the region ^G5561 of the Gerasenes ^G1086.

2 And when He got ^G1831 out ^G1831 of the boat ^G4143, immediately ^G2117 a man ^G444 from the tombs ^G3419 with an unclean ^G169 spirit ^G4151 met ^G5221 Him, 3 who had ^G2192 his dwelling ^G2731 among ^G1722 the tombs ^G3418. And no ^G3761 G3762 one ^G3762 was able ^G1410 to bind ^G1210 him anymore ^G3765, even ^G3761 with a chain ^G254; 4 because ^G1223 he had often ^G4178 been bound ^G1210 with shackles ^G3976 and chains ^G254, and the chains ^G254 had been torn ^G1288 apart ^G1288 by him and the shackles ^G3976 broken ^G4937 in ^G4937 pieces ^G4937, and no ^G3762 one ^G3762 was ^G2480 strong ^G2480 enough ^G2480 to subdue ^G1150 him. 5 And constantly ^G1223, night ^G3571 and day ^G2250, among ^G1722 the tombs ^G3418 and in the mountains ^G3735, he was crying ^G2896 out ^G2896 and gashing ^G2629 himself ^G1438 with stones ^G3037. 6 And seeing ^G3708 Jesus ^G2424 from a distance ^G3113, he ran ^G5143 up and bowed ^G4352 down ^G4352 before ^G4352 Him; 7 and crying out ^G2896 with a loud ^G3173 voice ^G5456, he *said ^G3004, “[fn]What ^G5101 do I ^G1698 have to do with You ^G4671, Jesus ^G2424, Son ^G5207 of the Most ^G5310 High ^G5310 God ^G2316? I implore ^G3726 You by God ^G2316, do not torment ^G928 me!” 8 For He had been saying ^G3004 to him, “Come ^G1831 out ^G1831 of the man ^G444, you unclean ^G169 spirit ^G4151!” 9 And He was asking ^G1905 him, “What ^G5101 is your name ^G3686?” And he *said ^G3004 to Him, “My name ^G3686 is Legion ^G3003; for we are many ^G4183.” 10 And he began pleading ^G3870 with Him earnestly ^G4183 not to send ^G649 them out ^G649 of the region ^G5561. 11 Now ^G1161 there was a large ^G3173 herd ^G34 of swine ^G5519 feeding ^G1006 [fn]nearby ^G1563 on the mountain ^G3735. 12 And the demons pleaded ^G3870 with Him, saying ^G3004, “Send ^G3992 us into the swine ^G5519 so ^G2443 that we may enter ^G1525 them.” 13 And Jesus gave ^G2010 them permission ^G2010. And coming ^G1831 out ^G1831, the unclean ^G169 spirits ^G4151 entered ^G1525 the swine ^G5519; and the herd ^G34 rushed ^G3729 down ^G2596 the steep ^G2911 bank ^G2911 into the sea ^G2281, about ^G5613 two ^G1367 thousand ^G1367 of them; and they were drowned ^G4155 in the sea ^G2281.

14 And their herdsmen ^G1006 ran ^G5343 away ^G5343 and reported ^G518 it in the city ^G4172 and in the countryside ^G68. And the people came ^G2064 to see ^G3708 what ^G5101 it was that had happened ^G1096. 15 And they *came ^G2064 to Jesus ^G2424 and *observed ^G2334 the demon-possessed ^G1139 man sitting ^G2521 down ^G2521, clothed ^G2439 and in his right ^G4993 mind ^G4993, the very man who had ^G2192 the “legion ^G3003”; and they became ^G5399 frightened ^G5399. 16 And those ^G3588 who had seen ^G3708 it recounted ^G1334 to them how ^G4459 this had happened ^G1096 to the demon-possessed ^G1139 man, and all about ^G4012 the swine ^G5519. 17 And they began ^G757 to plead ^G3870 with Him to leave ^G565 their region ^G3725. 18 And as He was getting ^G1684 into the boat ^G4143, the man who had been demon-possessed ^G1139 was pleading ^G3870 with Him that he might [fn]accompany ^G3326 G1510 Him. 19 And He did not let ^G863 him, but He *said ^G3004 to him, “Go ^G5217 home ^G3624 to your people ^G4674 and report ^G518 to them [fn]what ^G3745 great ^G3745 things ^G3745 the Lord ^G2962 has done ^G4160 for you, and how He had ^G1653 mercy ^G1653 on you.” 20 And he went ^G565 away ^G565 and began ^G757 to preach ^G2784 in the Decapolis ^G1179 [fn]what ^G3745 great ^G3745 things ^G3745 Jesus ^G2424 had done ^G4160 for him; and everyone ^G3956 was ^G2296 marveling ^G2296.

Jesus Heals a Woman and Jairus’ Daughter

21 And when Jesus ^G2424 had crossed ^G1276 over ^G1276 again ^G3825 in the boat ^G4143 to the other ^G4008 side ^G4008, a large ^G4183 crowd ^G3793 gathered ^G4863 around ^G1909 Him; and so He [fn]stayed ^G1510 by the seashore ^G2281.

22 And one ^G1520 of the synagogue ^G752 [fn]officials ^G752 named ^G3686 Jairus ^G2383 *came ^G2064 up, and on seeing ^G3708 Him, *fell ^G4098 at His feet ^G4228 23 and *pleaded ^G3870 with Him earnestly ^G4183, saying ^G3004, “My little ^G2365 daughter ^G2365 is at ^G2079 the ^G2079 point ^G2079 of ^G2079 death ^G2079; please come, that ^G2443 by coming ^G2064, You may lay ^G2007 Your hands ^G5495 on ^G2007 her, so ^G2443 that she will [fn]be saved ^G4982 and live ^G2198.” 24 And He went ^G565 off ^G565 with him; and a large ^G4183 crowd ^G3793 was following ^G190 Him and pressing ^G4918 in on Him.

25 And a woman ^G1135—who had ^G1510 a hemorrhage ^G4511 G129 for twelve ^G1427 years ^G2094 26 and had endured ^G3958 much ^G4183 at the hands ^G5259 of many ^G4183 physicians ^G2395, and had spent ^G1159 all ^G3956 that she had ^G3844 and was not helped ^G5623 at ^G3367 all ^G3367, but rather ^G3123 had grown ^G2064 worse ^G5501— 27 after hearing ^G191 about ^G4012 Jesus ^G2424, she came ^G2064 up in the crowd ^G3793 behind ^G3693 Him and touched ^G681 His garment ^G2440. 28 For she was saying ^G3004, “If ^G1437 I just ^G2579 touch ^G681 His garments ^G2440, I will [fn]be ^G4982 saved ^G4982 from this.” 29 And immediately ^G2117 the flow ^G4077 of her blood ^G129 was dried ^G3583 up; and she knew ^G1097 within her body ^G4983 that she had been healed ^G2390 of her affliction ^G3148. 30 And immediately ^G2117 Jesus ^G2424, perceiving ^G1921 in Himself ^G1438 that the power ^G1411 proceeding from Him had gone ^G1831 forth ^G1831, turned ^G1994 around ^G1994 in the crowd ^G3793 and was saying ^G3004, “Who ^G5101 touched ^G681 My garments ^G2440?” 31 And His disciples ^G3101 were saying ^G3004 to Him, “You see ^G991 the crowd ^G3793 pressing ^G4918 in on You, and You say ^G3004, ‘Who ^G5101 touched ^G681 Me?’” 32 And He was looking ^G4017 around ^G4017 to see ^G3708 the woman who had done ^G4160 this ^G3778. 33 But the woman ^G1135 fearing ^G5399 and trembling ^G5141, aware ^G6063 of what ^G3739 had happened ^G1096 to her, came ^G2064 and fell ^G4363 down ^G4363 before ^G4363 Him and told ^G3004 Him the whole ^G3956 truth ^G225. 34 And He said ^G3004 to her ^G846, “Daughter ^G2364, your faith ^G4102 has [fn]saved ^G4982 you ^G4571; go ^G5217 in peace ^G1515 and be healed ^G5199 of your affliction ^G3148.”

35 While He was still ^G2089 speaking ^G2980, they *came ^G2064 from the house of the synagogue ^G752 official ^G752, saying ^G3004, “Your daughter ^G2364 has died ^G599; why ^G5101 trouble ^G4660 the Teacher ^G1320 anymore ^G2089?” 36 But Jesus ^G2424, overhearing ^G3878 what ^G3588 G3056 had been spoken ^G2980, *said ^G3004 to the synagogue ^G752 official ^G752, “Do not be ^G5399 afraid ^G5399, only ^G3440 [fn]believe ^G4100.” 37 And He allowed ^G863 no ^G3756 G3762 one ^G3762 to accompany ^G4870 Him, except ^G1508 Peter ^G4074 and James ^G2385 and John ^G2491 the brother ^G80 of James ^G2385. 38 And they *came ^G2064 to the house ^G3624 of the synagogue ^G752 official ^G752; and He *saw ^G2334 a commotion ^G2351, and people loudly ^G4183 crying ^G2799 and wailing ^G214. 39 And entering ^G1525 in ^G1525, He *said ^G3004 to them ^G846, “Why ^G5101 are you making ^G2350 a ^G2350 commotion ^G2350 and crying ^G2799? The child ^G3813 has not died ^G599, but is ^G2518 asleep ^G2518.” 40 And they began laughing ^G2606 at ^G2606 Him. But putting ^G1544 them all ^G3956 out ^G1544, He *took ^G3880 along ^G3880 the child’s ^G3813 father ^G3962 and mother ^G3384 and His own companions ^G3588 G3326, and *entered ^G1531 the room where ^G3699 the child ^G3813 was. 41 And taking ^G2902 the child ^G3813 by the hand ^G5495, He *said ^G3004 to her, “Talitha ^G5008 kum ^G2891!” (which ^G3739 translated ^G3177 means ^G1510, “Little ^G2877 girl ^G2877, I say ^G3004 to you, arise ^G1453!”). 42 And immediately ^G2117 the little girl ^G2877 stood ^G450 up ^G450 and began to walk ^G4043, for she was twelve ^G1427 years ^G2094 old. And immediately ^G2117 they were completely ^G1611 G3173 astounded ^G1839. 43 And He gave ^G1291 them strict ^G4183 orders ^G1291 that no ^G3367 one ^G3367 should know ^G1097 about this ^G3778, and He said ^G3004 that some food should be given ^G1325 to her to eat ^G2068.
