Jesus Feeds Four Thousand

1 In those ^G1565 days ^G2250, when there was again ^G3825 a large ^G4183 crowd ^G3793 and they had ^G2192 nothing ^G3361 G5100 to eat ^G2068, Jesus called ^G4341 His disciples ^G3101 and *said ^G3004 to them,

2 “I feel ^G4697 compassion ^G4697 for the crowd ^G3793 because ^G3754 they have remained ^G4357 with Me now ^G2235 three ^G5140 days ^G2250 and have ^G2192 nothing ^G3756 G5100 to eat ^G2068. 3 And if ^G1437 I send ^G630 them away ^G630 hungry ^G3523 to their homes ^G3624, they will faint ^G1590 on the way ^G3598; and some ^G5100 of them have ^G1510 come ^G1510 from a great ^G3113 distance ^G3113.” 4 And His disciples ^G3101 answered ^G611 Him, “Where ^G4159 will anyone ^G5100 be able ^G1410 to find enough [fn]bread ^G740 here ^G5602 in this desolate ^G2047 place ^G2047 to satisfy ^G5526 these ^G3778 people ^G3778?” 5 And He was asking ^G2065 them, “How ^G4214 many ^G4214 loaves ^G740 do you have ^G2192?” And they said ^G3004, “Seven ^G2033.” 6 And He *directed ^G3853 the crowd ^G3793 to [fn]sit ^G377 down ^G377 on the ground ^G1093; and taking ^G2983 the seven ^G2033 loaves ^G740, He gave ^G2168 thanks ^G2168 and broke ^G2806 them. Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, [fn]no ^G1487 [fn]sign ^G4592 will be given ^G1325 to this ^G3778 generation ^G1074.” 13 And leaving ^G863 them, He again ^G3825 embarked ^G1684 and went ^G565 away ^G565 to the other ^G4008 side ^G4008.

14 And they had forgotten ^G1950 to take ^G2983 bread ^G740, and did not have ^G2192 more ^G1508 than ^G1508 one ^G1520 loaf ^G740 in the boat ^G4143 with them. 15 And He was giving ^G1291 orders ^G1291 to them, saying ^G3004, “Watch ^G3708 out ^G3708! And do you not remember ^G3421, 19 when ^G3753 I broke ^G2806 the five ^G4000 loaves ^G740 for the five ^G4000 thousand ^G4000, how ^G4214 many ^G4214 baskets ^G2894 full ^G4134 of broken ^G2801 pieces ^G2801 you picked ^G142 up ^G142?” They *said ^G3004 to Him, “Twelve ^G1427.” 20 “When ^G3753 I broke the seven ^G2033 for the four ^G5070 thousand ^G5070, how ^G4214 many ^G4214 large baskets ^G4711 full ^G4138 of broken ^G2801 pieces ^G2801 did you pick ^G142 up ^G142?” And they *said ^G3004 to Him, “Seven ^G2033.” 21 And He was saying ^G3004 to them, “Do you not yet ^G3768 understand ^G4920?”

22 And they *came ^G2064 to Bethsaida ^G966. Peter Confesses Jesus Is the Christ

27 And Jesus ^G2424 went ^G1831 out ^G1831, along ^G2532 with His disciples ^G3101, to the villages ^G2968 of Caesarea ^G2542 Philippi ^G5376; and on the way ^G3598 He was asking ^G1905 His disciples ^G3101, saying ^G3004 to them, “Who ^G5101 do people ^G444 say ^G3004 that I am ^G1510?”

28 And they told ^G3004 Him, saying ^G3004, “John ^G2491 the Baptist ^G910; and others ^G243 say Elijah ^G2243; but others ^G243, one ^G1520 of the prophets ^G4396.” 29 And He continued asking ^G1905 them, “But who ^G5101 do you say ^G3004 that I am ^G1510?” Peter ^G4074 *answered ^G611 and *said ^G3004 to Him, “You are the [fn]Christ ^G5547.” 30 And He [fn]warned ^G2008 them to tell ^G3004 no ^G3367 one ^G3367 about ^G4012 Him.

31 And He began ^G757 to teach ^G1321 them that the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 must ^G1163 suffer ^G3958 many ^G4183 things ^G4183 and be rejected ^G593 by the elders ^G4245 and the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the scribes ^G1122, and be killed ^G615, and after ^G3326 three ^G5140 days ^G2250 rise ^G450 again ^G450. 32 And He was stating ^G2980 the matter ^G3056 openly ^G3954. And Peter ^G4074 took ^G4355 Him aside ^G4355 and began ^G757 to rebuke ^G2008 Him. 33 But turning ^G1994 around ^G1994 and seeing ^G3708 His disciples ^G3101, He rebuked ^G2008 Peter ^G4074 and *said ^G3004, “Get ^G5217 behind ^G3694 Me, Satan ^G4567! For you are not setting ^G5426 your mind ^G5426 on ^G5426 [fn]God’s ^G2316 interests, but man’s ^G444.”

Take Up Your Cross

34 And He summoned ^G4341 the crowd ^G3793 with His disciples ^G3101, and said ^G3004 to them, “If ^G1487 anyone ^G5100 wishes ^G2309 to [fn]come ^G2064 after ^G3694 Me, he must deny ^G533 himself ^G1438, and take ^G142 up ^G142 his cross ^G4716 and follow ^G190 Me.

35 For whoever ^G3739 G1437 wishes ^G2309 to save ^G4982 his [fn]life ^G5590 will lose ^G622 it, but whoever ^G3739 G302 loses ^G622 his [fn]life ^G5590 for My sake ^G6025 and the gospel’s ^G2098 will save ^G4982 it. 36 For what ^G5101 does it profit ^G5623 a man ^G444 to gain ^G2770 the whole ^G3650 world ^G2889, and forfeit ^G2210 his soul ^G5590? 37 For what ^G5101 will a man ^G444 give ^G1325 in exchange ^G465 for his soul ^G5590? 38 For whoever ^G3739 G1437 is ^G1870 ashamed ^G1870 of Me and My words ^G3056 in this ^G3778 adulterous ^G3428 and sinful ^G268 generation ^G1074, the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 will also ^G2532 be ^G1870 ashamed ^G1870 of him when ^G3752 He comes ^G2064 in the glory ^G1391 of His Father ^G3962 with the holy ^G40 angels ^G32.”
