The Transfiguration

1 And Jesus was saying ^G3004 to them, “Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, there are some ^G5100 of those ^G3588 who are standing ^G2476 here ^G5602 who ^G3748 will not taste ^G1089 death ^G2288 until ^G2193 they see ^G3708 the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 having come ^G2064 in power ^G1411.”

2 And six ^G1803 days ^G2250 later ^G3326, Jesus ^G2424 *took ^G3880 with Him Peter ^G4074 and James ^G2385 and John ^G2491, and *brought ^G399 them up ^G399 on a high ^G5308 mountain ^G3735 alone ^G3441 by themselves ^G2596 G2398. And He was transfigured ^G3339 before ^G1715 them;

3 and His garments ^G2440 were ^G1096 shining ^G4744 intensely ^G3029 white ^G3022, as no ^G3756 launderer ^G1102 on earth ^G1093 can ^G1410 whiten ^G3021 them. 4 And Elijah ^G2243 appeared ^G3708 to them along ^G4862 with Moses ^G3475 and they were conversing ^G4814 with Jesus ^G2424. 5 And Peter ^G4074 answered ^G611 and *said ^G3004 to Jesus ^G2424, “Rabbi ^G4461, it is good ^G2570 for us to be here ^G5602; let us make ^G4160 three ^G5140 [fn]booths ^G4633, one ^G1520 for You, and one ^G1520 for Moses ^G3475, and one ^G1520 for Elijah ^G2243.” 6 For he did not know ^G6063 what ^G5101 to answer ^G611; for they became ^G1096 terrified ^G1630. 7 Then ^G2532 a cloud ^G3507 [fn]formed ^G1096, overshadowing ^G1982 them, and a voice ^G5456 [fn]came ^G1096 out ^G1096 of the cloud ^G3507, “This ^G3778 is My beloved ^G27 Son ^G5207, [fn]listen ^G191 to Him!” 8 And all ^G1819 at once ^G1819 when they looked ^G4017 around ^G4017, they saw ^G3708 no ^G3762 one ^G3762 with them anymore ^G3765, except ^G1508 Jesus ^G2424 alone ^G3441.

I Believe, Help My Unbelief

14 And when they came ^G2064 back to the disciples ^G3101, they saw ^G3708 a large ^G4183 crowd ^G3793 around ^G4012 them, and scribes ^G1122 arguing ^G4802 with them.

15 And immediately ^G2117, when the entire ^G3956 crowd ^G3793 saw ^G3708 Him, they were amazed ^G1568. And as they ran ^G4370 up ^G4370, they were greeting ^G782 Him. 16 And He asked ^G1905 them, “What ^G5101 are you arguing ^G4802 with them?” 17 And one ^G1520 of the crowd ^G3793 answered ^G611 Him, “Teacher ^G1320, I brought ^G5342 You my son ^G5207, possessed ^G2192 with a spirit ^G4151 which makes him mute ^G216; 18 and [fn]whenever ^G3699 it seizes ^G2638 him, it [fn]slams ^G4486 him to the ground and he foams ^G875 at the mouth, and grinds ^G5149 his teeth ^G3599 and [fn]becomes ^G3583 rigid ^G3583. Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

30 From ^G2547 there ^G2547 they went ^G1831 out ^G1831 and were going ^G3899 through ^G1223 Galilee ^G1056, and ^G2532 He was not ^G3756 wanting ^G2309 anyone ^G5100 to know ^G1097 about it.

31 For He was teaching ^G1321 His disciples ^G3101 and telling ^G3004 them, “The Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 is to be [fn]delivered ^G3860 into the hands ^G5495 of men ^G444, and they will kill ^G615 Him; and when He has been killed ^G615, He will rise ^G450 again ^G450 three ^G5140 days ^G2250 later ^G3326.” 32 But they [fn]did not understand ^G50 this statement ^G4487, and they were ^G5399 afraid ^G5399 to ask ^G1905 Him.

33 And they came ^G2064 to Capernaum ^G2584; and when He [fn]was in the house ^G3614, He began to question ^G1905 them, “What ^G5101 were you discussing ^G1260 on the way ^G3598?” 34 But they kept ^G4623 silent ^G4623, for on the way ^G3598 they had discussed ^G1256 with one ^G240 another ^G240 which ^G5101 of them was the greatest ^G3173. 35 And sitting ^G2523 down ^G2523, He called ^G5455 the twelve ^G1427 and *said ^G3004 to them, “If ^G1487 anyone ^G5100 wants ^G2309 to be first ^G4413, [fn]he shall be last ^G2078 of all ^G3956 and servant ^G1249 of all ^G3956.” 36 And taking ^G2983 a child ^G3813, He set ^G2476 him [fn]before ^G1722 G3319 them. And taking ^G1723 him in ^G1723 His arms ^G1723, He said ^G3004 to them, 37 “Whoever ^G3739 G302 receives ^G1209 [fn]one ^G1520 child ^G3813 like ^G5108 this ^G5108 in My name ^G3686 receives ^G1209 Me; and whoever ^G3739 G302 receives ^G1209 Me does not receive ^G1209 Me, but Him who sent ^G649 Me.”

Warnings About Discipleship

38 John ^G2491 said ^G5346 to Him, “Teacher ^G1320, we saw ^G3708 someone ^G5100 casting ^G1544 out ^G1544 demons ^G1140 in Your name ^G3686, and we tried to hinder ^G2967 him because ^G3754 he was not following ^G190 us.”

39 But Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004, “Do not hinder ^G2967 him, for there is no ^G3762 one ^G3762 who ^G3739 will perform ^G4160 a miracle ^G1411 in My name ^G3686, and be able ^G1410 soon ^G5035 afterward ^G5035 to speak ^G2551 evil ^G2551 of ^G2551 Me. 40 For he who ^G3739 is not against ^G2596 us is [fn]for us. 41 For whoever ^G3739 G302 gives ^G4222 you a cup ^G4221 of water ^G5204 to ^G4222 drink ^G4222 in My name ^G3686 because ^G3754 you are ^G2075 of Christ ^G5547, truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, he will not lose ^G622 his reward ^G3408.

42 “And whoever ^G3739 causes ^G4624 one ^G1520 of these ^G3778 [fn]little ^G3398 ones ^G3398 who believe ^G4100 to ^G4624 stumble ^G4624, it [fn]would be better ^G2570 G3123 for him if ^G1487, with a heavy ^G3684 millstone ^G3458 hung ^G4029 around ^G4012 his neck ^G5137, he [fn]had been cast ^G906 into the sea ^G2281. 43 And if ^G1437 your hand ^G5495 causes ^G4624 you to ^G4624 stumble ^G4624, cut ^G609 it off ^G609; it is better ^G2570 for you to enter ^G1525 life ^G2222 crippled ^G2948, than ^G2228, having ^G2192 your two ^G1417 hands ^G5495, to go ^G565 into [fn]hell ^G1067, into the unquenchable ^G762 fire ^G4442, 44 [fn][and where ^G3699 THEIR WORM ^G4663 DOES NOT DIE ^G5053, AND THE FIRE ^G4442 IS NOT QUENCHED ^G4570.] 45 And if ^G1437 your foot ^G4228 causes ^G4624 you to ^G4624 stumble ^G4624, cut ^G609 it off ^G609; it is better ^G2570 for you to enter ^G1525 life ^G2222 lame ^G5560, than ^G2228, having ^G2192 your two ^G1417 feet ^G4228, to be cast ^G906 into [fn]hell ^G1067, 46 [fn][and where ^G3699 THEIR WORM ^G4663 DOES NOT DIE ^G5053, AND THE FIRE ^G4442 IS NOT QUENCHED ^G4570.] 47 And if ^G1437 your eye ^G3788 causes ^G4624 you to ^G4624 stumble ^G4624, gouge ^G1544 it out ^G1544; it is better ^G2570 for you to enter ^G1525 the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 with one ^G3442 eye ^G3442, than ^G2228, having ^G2192 two ^G1417 eyes ^G3788, to be cast ^G1544 into [fn]hell ^G1067, 48 where ^G3699 THEIR WORM ^G4663 DOES NOT DIE ^G5053, AND THE FIRE ^G4442 IS NOT QUENCHED ^G4570.

49 “For everyone ^G3956 will be salted ^G233 with fire ^G4442. 50 Salt ^G217 is good ^G2570; but if ^G1437 the salt ^G217 becomes ^G1096 unsalty ^G358, with what ^G5101 will you [fn]make ^G741 it salty ^G741 again? Have ^G2192 salt ^G217 in yourselves ^G1438, and be ^G1514 at ^G1514 peace ^G1514 with one ^G240 another ^G240.”
