The Transfiguration

1 And ^G2532 six ^G1803 days ^G2250 later ^G3326 Jesus ^G2424 *brought ^G3880 with Him Peter ^G4074 and James ^G2385 and John ^G2491 his brother ^G80, and *led ^G399 them up ^G399 on a high ^G5308 mountain ^G3735 by themselves ^G2398.

2 And He was transfigured ^G3339 before ^G1715 them; and His face ^G4383 shone ^G2989 like ^G5613 the sun ^G2246, and His garments ^G2440 became ^G1096 as white ^G3022 as light ^G5457. 3 And behold ^G2400, Moses ^G3475 and Elijah ^G2243 appeared ^G3708 to them, talking ^G4814 with Him. 4 And Peter ^G4074 answered ^G611 and said ^G2036 to Jesus ^G2424, “Lord ^G2962, it is good ^G2570 for us to be here ^G5602; if ^G1487 You wish ^G2309, I will make ^G4160 three ^G5140 [fn]booths ^G4633 here ^G5602, one ^G1520 for You, and one ^G1520 for Moses ^G3475, and one ^G1520 for Elijah ^G2243.” 5 While he was still ^G2089 speaking ^G2980, behold ^G2400, a bright ^G5460 cloud ^G3507 overshadowed ^G1982 them, and behold ^G2400, a voice ^G5456 out of the cloud ^G3507 said ^G3004, “This ^G3778 is My beloved ^G27 Son ^G5207, with whom ^G3739 I am ^G2106 well-pleased ^G2106; listen ^G191 to Him!” 6 And when the disciples ^G3101 heard ^G191 this, they fell ^G4098 on ^G1909 their ^G846 faces ^G4383 and were ^G5399 terrified ^G5399. 7 And Jesus ^G2424 came ^G4334 to them and touched ^G681 them and said ^G3004, “Get ^G1453 up ^G1453, and do not be ^G5399 afraid ^G5399.” 8 And lifting ^G1869 up ^G1869 their eyes ^G3788, they saw ^G3708 no ^G3762 one ^G3762 except ^G1508 Jesus ^G2424 Himself ^G846 alone ^G3441.

9 And as they were coming ^G2597 down ^G2597 from the mountain ^G3735, Jesus ^G2424 commanded ^G1781 them, saying ^G3004, “Tell ^G3004 the vision ^G3705 to no ^G3367 one ^G3367 until ^G2193 the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 has risen ^G1453 from the dead ^G3498.” 10 And His disciples ^G3101 asked ^G1905 Him, saying ^G3004, “Why ^G5101 then ^G3767 do the scribes ^G1122 say ^G3004 that Elijah ^G2243 must ^G1163 come ^G2064 first ^G4413?” 11 And He answered ^G611 and said ^G3004, “Elijah ^G2243 is coming ^G2064 and will restore ^G600 all ^G3956 things ^G3956; 12 but I say ^G3004 to you that Elijah ^G2243 already ^G2235 came ^G2064, and they did not recognize ^G1921 him, but did ^G4160 [fn]to him whatever ^G3745 they wished ^G2309. So ^G3779 also ^G2532 the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 is ^G3195 going ^G3195 to ^G3195 suffer ^G3958 [fn]at their hands ^G5259.” 13 Then ^G5119 the disciples ^G3101 understood ^G4920 that He had spoken ^G3004 to them about ^G4012 John ^G2491 the Baptist ^G910.

Jesus Casts Out a Demon

14 And when they came ^G2064 to the crowd ^G3793, a man ^G444 came ^G4334 up ^G4334 to Jesus, falling ^G1120 on ^G1120 his knees ^G1120 before ^G1120 Him and saying ^G3004,

15 “[fn]Lord ^G2962, have ^G1653 mercy ^G1653 on my son ^G5207, for he has [fn]seizures ^G4583 and suffers ^G2192 terribly ^G2560; for he often ^G4178 falls ^G4098 into the fire ^G4442 and often ^G4178 into the water ^G5204. 16 And I brought ^G4374 him to Your disciples ^G3101, and they could ^G1410 not cure ^G2323 him.” 17 And Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004, “O ^G5599 you unbelieving ^G571 and perverse ^G1294 generation ^G1074, how ^G2193 long ^G2193 G4219 shall I be with you? How ^G2193 long ^G2193 G4219 shall I put ^G430 up ^G430 with you? Bring ^G5342 him here ^G5602 to Me.” 18 And Jesus ^G2424 rebuked ^G2008 him, and the demon ^G1140 came ^G1831 out ^G1831 of him, and the boy ^G3816 was cured ^G2323 [fn]at once ^G1565 G5610.

19 Then ^G5119 the disciples ^G3101 came ^G4334 to Jesus ^G2424 privately ^G2596 G2398 and said ^G3004, “Why ^G1223 G5101 could ^G1410 we not cast ^G1544 it out ^G1544?” 20 And He *said ^G3004 to them, “Because ^G1223 of your ^G5216 little faith ^G6066; for truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, if ^G1437 you have ^G2192 faith ^G4102 [fn]the size ^G5613 of a mustard ^G4615 seed ^G2848, you will say ^G3004 to this ^G3778 mountain ^G3735, ‘Move ^G3327 from ^G6033 here ^G6033 to there ^G1563,’ and it will move ^G3327; and nothing ^G3762 will be impossible ^G101 to you. 21 [fn][But this ^G3778 kind ^G1085 does not go ^G1607 out ^G1607 except ^G1508 by prayer ^G4335 and fasting ^G3521.”]

22 And while they were gathering ^G4962 together ^G4962 in Galilee ^G1056, Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to them, “The Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 is ^G3195 going ^G3195 to ^G3195 be [fn]delivered ^G3860 into the hands ^G5495 of men ^G444; 23 and they will kill ^G615 Him, and He will be raised ^G1453 on the third ^G5154 day ^G2250.” And they were deeply ^G4970 grieved ^G3076.

The Temple Tax

24 Now when they came ^G4334 to Capernaum ^G2584, those ^G3588 who collected ^G2983 the [fn]two-drachma ^G1323 tax came ^G4334 to Peter ^G4074 and said ^G3004, “Does your teacher ^G1320 not pay ^G5055 the [fn]two-drachma ^G1323 tax?”

25 He *said ^G3004, “Yes ^G3483.” And when he came ^G2064 into the house ^G3614, Jesus ^G2424 spoke ^G4399 G3004 to him ^G846 first ^G4399, saying ^G3004, “What ^G5101 do you think ^G1380, Simon ^G4613? From whom ^G5101 do the kings ^G935 of the earth ^G1093 collect ^G2983 tolls ^G5056 or ^G2228 taxes ^G2778, from their sons ^G5207 or ^G2228 from strangers ^G245?” 26 And when Peter said ^G5346, “From strangers ^G245,” Jesus ^G2424 said ^G5346 to him, “Then ^G686 the sons ^G5207 are [fn]exempt ^G1658. 27 However ^G1161, so ^G2443 G3361 that we do not [fn]offend ^G4624 them, go ^G4198 to the sea ^G2281 and throw ^G906 in a hook ^G44, and take ^G142 the first ^G4413 fish ^G2486 that comes ^G305 up ^G305; and when you open ^G455 its mouth ^G4750, you will find ^G2147 a [fn]stater ^G4715. Take ^G2983 that and give ^G1325 it to them for Me and you.”
