1 [fn]Now ^G2532 it happened ^G1096 that when ^G3753 Jesus ^G2424 had finished ^G5055 these ^G3778 words ^G3056, He departed ^G3332 from Galilee ^G1056 and came ^G2064 into the region ^G3725 of Judea ^G2449 beyond ^G4008 the Jordan ^G2446;

2 and [fn]large ^G4183 crowds ^G3793 followed ^G190 Him, and He healed ^G2323 them there ^G1563.

3 And ^G2532 some Pharisees ^G5330 came ^G4334 to [fn]Jesus, testing ^G3985 Him ^G846 and saying ^G3004, “Is it lawful ^G1832 for a man to [fn]divorce ^G630 his wife ^G1135 for any ^G3956 reason ^G156 at all ^G3956?” 4 And He answered ^G611 and said ^G3004, “Have you not read ^G314 that He who created ^G2936 them from the beginning ^G746 MADE ^G4160 THEM MALE ^G730 AND FEMALE ^G2338, 5 and said ^G3004, ‘FOR THIS ^G3778 REASON ^G6025 A MAN ^G444 SHALL LEAVE ^G2641 HIS FATHER ^G3962 AND MOTHER ^G3384 AND BE JOINED ^G2853 TO HIS WIFE ^G1135, AND THE TWO ^G1417 SHALL BECOME ^G1510 G1519 ONE ^G1520 FLESH ^G4561’? 6 So ^G5620 they are no ^G3765 longer ^G3765 two ^G1417, but one ^G1520 flesh ^G4561. What ^G3739 therefore ^G3767 God ^G2316 has joined ^G4801 together ^G4801, let no ^G3361 man ^G444 separate ^G5563.” 7 They *said ^G3004 to Him, “Why ^G5101 then ^G3767 did Moses ^G3475 command ^G1781 to GIVE ^G1325 HER A CERTIFICATE ^G975 OF DIVORCE ^G647 AND SEND ^G630 her AWAY ^G630?” 8 He *said ^G3004 to them, “Because ^G4314 of your hardness ^G4641 of ^G4641 heart ^G4641 Moses ^G3475 permitted ^G2010 you to [fn]divorce ^G630 your wives ^G1135; but from the beginning ^G746 it has not been ^G1096 this ^G3779 way ^G3779. 9 And I say ^G3004 to you, whoever ^G3739 G302 [fn]divorces ^G630 his wife ^G1135, except ^G3361 for sexual ^G4202 immorality ^G4202, and marries ^G1060 another ^G243 woman ^G243 [fn]commits ^G3429 adultery ^G3429[fn].”

10 The disciples ^G3101 *said ^G3004 to Him, “If ^G1487 the relationship ^G156 of the man ^G444 with his wife ^G1135 is like ^G3779 this ^G3779, it is ^G4851 better ^G4851 not to marry ^G1060.” 11 But He said ^G3004 to them, “Not all ^G3956 men ^G3956 can accept ^G5562 this ^G3778 statement ^G3056, but only those to whom ^G3739 it has been given ^G1325. 12 For there are eunuchs ^G2135 who ^G3748 were born ^G1080 that way ^G3779 from their mother’s ^G3384 womb ^G2836; and there are eunuchs ^G2135 who ^G3748 were made ^G2134 eunuchs ^G2134 by men ^G444; and there are also eunuchs ^G2135 who ^G3748 made ^G2134 themselves ^G1438 eunuchs ^G2134 for the sake ^G1223 of the kingdom ^G932 of heaven ^G3772. He who is able ^G1410 to accept ^G5562 this, let him accept ^G5562 it.”

Jesus Blesses Children

13 Then ^G5119 some children ^G3813 were brought ^G4374 to Him so ^G2443 that He might lay ^G2007 His hands ^G5495 on ^G2007 them and pray ^G4336; and the disciples ^G3101 rebuked ^G2008 them.

14 But Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004, “[fn]Let ^G863 the children ^G3813 alone ^G863, and do not hinder ^G2967 them from coming ^G2064 to Me; for the kingdom ^G932 of heaven ^G3772 belongs ^G1510 to such ^G5108 as ^G5108 these ^G5108.” 15 And after laying ^G2007 His hands ^G5495 on ^G2007 them, He departed ^G4198 from ^G1564 there ^G1564.

The Rich Young Ruler

16 And behold ^G2400, someone ^G1520 came ^G4334 to Him and said ^G3004, “Teacher ^G1320, what ^G5101 good ^G18 thing ^G18 shall I do ^G4160 that I may have ^G2192 eternal ^G166 life ^G2222?”

17 And He said ^G3004 to him, “Why ^G5101 are you asking ^G2065 Me about ^G4012 what ^G18 is ^G18 good ^G18? There is only One ^G1520 who is good ^G18; but if ^G1487 you wish ^G2309 to enter ^G1525 into life ^G2222, keep ^G5083 the commandments ^G1785.” 18 Then he *said ^G3004 to Him, “Which ^G4169 ones ^G4169?” And Jesus ^G2424 said ^G5346, “YOU SHALL NOT MURDER ^G5407; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ^G3431 ADULTERY ^G3431; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL ^G2813; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR ^G5576 FALSE ^G5576 WITNESS ^G5576; 19 HONOR ^G5091 YOUR FATHER ^G3962 AND MOTHER ^G3384; and YOU SHALL LOVE ^G25 YOUR NEIGHBOR ^G4139 AS YOURSELF ^G4572.” 20 The young ^G3495 man ^G3495 *said ^G3004 to Him, “All ^G3956 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 I have kept ^G5442; what ^G5101 am ^G5302 I still ^G2089 lacking ^G5302?” 21 Jesus ^G2424 said ^G5346 to him, “If ^G1487 you wish ^G2309 to be [fn]complete ^G5046, go ^G5217 and sell ^G4453 your possessions ^G5225 and give ^G1325 to the poor ^G4434, and you will have ^G2192 treasure ^G2344 in heaven ^G3772; and come ^G1204, follow ^G190 Me.” 22 But when the young ^G3495 man ^G3495 heard ^G191 this ^G3778 statement ^G3056, he went ^G565 away ^G565 grieving ^G3076; for he was one who owned ^G2192 much ^G4183 property ^G2933.

23 And Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to His disciples ^G3101, “Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, it is hard ^G1423 for a rich ^G4145 man ^G4145 to enter ^G1525 the kingdom ^G932 of heaven ^G3772. 24 And again ^G3825 I say ^G3004 to you, it is easier ^G2123 for a camel ^G2574 to go through ^G1223 the eye ^G6085 of a needle ^G4476, than ^G2228 for a rich ^G4145 man ^G4145 to enter ^G1525 the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316.” 25 And when the disciples ^G3101 heard ^G191 this, they were very ^G4970 astonished ^G1605 and said ^G3004, “Then ^G686 who ^G5101 can ^G1410 be saved ^G4982?” 26 And looking ^G1689 at ^G1689 them Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to them, “With people ^G444 this ^G3778 is impossible ^G102, but with God ^G2316 all ^G3956 things ^G3956 are possible ^G1415.”

Many Who Are First Will Be Last

27 Then ^G5119 Peter ^G4074 answered ^G611 and said ^G2036 to Him, “Behold ^G2400, we have left ^G863 everything ^G3956 and followed ^G190 You; what ^G5101 then ^G686 will there be for us?”

28 And Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to them, “Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, that you who have followed ^G190 Me, in the regeneration ^G3824 when ^G3752 the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 will sit ^G2523 on [fn]His glorious ^G1391 throne ^G2362, you also ^G2532 shall sit ^G2521 upon twelve ^G1427 thrones ^G2362, judging ^G2919 the twelve ^G1427 tribes ^G5443 of Israel ^G2474. 29 And everyone ^G3956 who ^G3748 has left ^G863 houses ^G3614 or ^G2228 brothers ^G80 or ^G2228 sisters ^G79 or ^G2228 father ^G3962 or ^G2228 mother ^G3384 [fn]or ^G2228 children ^G5043 or ^G2228 farms ^G68 for My name’s ^G3686 sake ^G6025, will receive ^G2983 [fn]one hundred ^G1542 times ^G1542 as much ^G1542, and will inherit ^G2816 eternal ^G166 life ^G2222. 30 But many ^G4183 who are first ^G4413 will be last ^G2078; and the last ^G2078, first ^G4413.
