Parable of Ten Virgins

1 “Then ^G5119 the kingdom ^G932 of heaven ^G3772 may be compared ^G3666 to ten ^G1176 virgins ^G3933, who ^G3748 took ^G2983 their lamps ^G2985 and went ^G1831 out ^G1831 to meet ^G5222 the bridegroom ^G3566.

2 Now five ^G4002 of them were foolish ^G3474, and five ^G4002 were prudent ^G5429. 3 For when the foolish ^G3474 took ^G2983 their lamps ^G2985, they took ^G2983 no ^G3756 oil ^G1637 with them, 4 but the prudent ^G5429 took ^G2983 oil ^G1637 in flasks ^G30 along with their lamps ^G2985. 5 Now ^G1161 while the bridegroom ^G3566 was delaying ^G5549, they all ^G3956 got ^G3573 drowsy ^G3573 and began to sleep ^G2518. 6 But at midnight ^G3319 G3571 there was a shout ^G2906, ‘Behold ^G2400, the bridegroom ^G3566! Come ^G1831 out ^G1831 to meet ^G529 him.’ 7 Then ^G5119 all ^G3956 those ^G1565 virgins ^G3933 rose ^G1453 and trimmed ^G2885 their lamps ^G2985. 8 And the foolish ^G3474 said ^G3004 to the prudent ^G5429, ‘Give ^G1325 us some ^G1537 of your oil ^G1637, for our lamps ^G2985 are going ^G4570 out.’ 9 But the prudent ^G5429 answered ^G611, saying ^G3004, ‘No ^G3379, there will not be enough ^G714 for us and you too; go ^G4198 instead ^G3123 to the dealers ^G4453 and buy ^G59 some for yourselves ^G1438.’ 10 And while they were going ^G565 away ^G565 to make ^G59 the purchase ^G59, the bridegroom ^G3566 came ^G2064, and those ^G3588 who were ready ^G2092 went ^G1525 in ^G1525 with him to the wedding ^G1062 feast ^G1062; and the door ^G2374 was shut ^G2808. 11 And later ^G5305 the other ^G3062 virgins ^G3933 also ^G2532 *came ^G2064, saying ^G3004, ‘Lord ^G2962, lord ^G2962, open ^G455 up ^G455 for us.’ 12 But he answered ^G611 and said ^G2036, ‘Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, I do not know ^G6063 you.’ 13 Therefore ^G3767, stay awake ^G1127, for you do not know ^G6063 the day ^G2250 nor ^G3761 the hour ^G5610.

Parable of the Talents

14 “For it is just ^G5618 like ^G5618 a man ^G444 about to go ^G589 on ^G589 a ^G589 journey ^G589, who called ^G2564 his own ^G2398 slaves ^G1401 and handed ^G3860 over ^G3860 his possessions ^G5225 to them.

15 And to one ^G3739 he gave ^G1325 five ^G4002 [fn]talents ^G5007, to another ^G3739 G1161, two ^G1417, and to another ^G3739 G1161, one ^G1520, each ^G1538 according ^G2596 to his own ^G2398 ability ^G1411; and he went ^G589 on ^G589 his journey ^G589. 16 Immediately ^G2112 the one who had received ^G2983 the five ^G4002 talents ^G5007 went ^G4198 and traded ^G2038 with them, and gained ^G2770 five ^G4002 more ^G243 talents. 17 In the same ^G5615 manner ^G5615 the one who had received the two ^G1417 talents gained ^G2770 two ^G1417 more ^G243. 18 But he who received ^G2983 the one ^G1520 talent went ^G565 away ^G565, and dug ^G3736 a hole in the ground ^G1093 and hid ^G2928 his [fn]master’s ^G2962 money ^G694.

19 “Now ^G1161 after ^G3326 a long ^G4183 time ^G5550 the master ^G2962 of those ^G1565 slaves ^G1401 *came ^G2064 and *settled ^G4868 accounts ^G3056 with them. 20 And the one who had received ^G2983 the five ^G4002 talents ^G5007 came ^G4334 up ^G4334 and brought ^G4374 five ^G4002 more ^G243 talents ^G5007, saying ^G3004, ‘Master ^G2962, you handed ^G3860 five ^G4002 talents ^G5007 over ^G3860 to me. See ^G2396, I have gained ^G2770 five ^G4002 more ^G243 talents ^G5007.’ 21 His master ^G2962 said ^G5346 to him, ‘Well ^G2095 done ^G2095, good ^G18 and faithful ^G4103 slave ^G1401. You were faithful ^G4103 with a few ^G3641 things ^G3641, I will put ^G2525 you in ^G2525 charge ^G2525 of many ^G4183 things ^G4183; enter ^G1525 into the joy ^G5479 of your [fn]master ^G2962.’

22 “Also ^G2532 the one ^G3588 who ^G3588 had received the two ^G1417 talents ^G5007 came ^G4334 up ^G4334 and said ^G3004, ‘Master ^G2962, you handed ^G3860 two ^G1417 talents ^G5007 over ^G3860 to me. See ^G2396, I have gained ^G2770 two ^G1417 more ^G243 talents ^G5007.’ 23 His master ^G2962 said ^G5346 to him, ‘Well ^G2095 done ^G2095, good ^G18 and faithful ^G4103 slave ^G1401. You were faithful ^G4103 with a few ^G3641 things ^G3641, I will put ^G2525 you in ^G2525 charge ^G2525 of many ^G4183 things ^G4183; enter ^G1525 into the joy ^G5479 of your master ^G2962.’

24 “And the one also ^G2532 who had received ^G2983 the one ^G1520 talent ^G5007 came ^G4334 up ^G4334 and said ^G3004, ‘Master ^G2962, I knew ^G1097 you to be a hard ^G4642 man ^G444, reaping ^G2325 where ^G3699 you did not sow ^G4687 and gathering ^G4863 where ^G3606 you scattered ^G1287 no ^G3756 seed. 25 And I was ^G5399 afraid ^G5399, and went ^G565 away ^G565 and hid ^G2928 your talent ^G5007 in the ground ^G1093. See ^G2396, you have ^G2192 what ^G3588 is yours ^G4674.’

26 “But his master ^G2962 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to him, ‘You wicked ^G4190, lazy ^G3636 slave ^G1401, you knew ^G6063 that I reap ^G2325 where ^G3699 I did not sow ^G4687 and gather ^G4863 where ^G3606 I scattered ^G1287 no ^G3756 seed. 27 Therefore ^G3767, you ought ^G1163 to have put ^G906 my money ^G694 [fn]in the bank ^G5133, and on my arrival ^G2064 I would have received ^G2865 my money back ^G2865 with interest ^G5110. 28 Therefore ^G3767 take ^G142 away ^G142 the talent ^G5007 from him, and give ^G1325 it to the one who has ^G2192 the ten ^G1176 talents ^G5007.’

29 “For to everyone ^G3956 who has ^G2192, more shall be given ^G1325, and he will have ^G4052 an ^G4052 abundance ^G4052; but from the one who does not have ^G2192, even ^G2532 what ^G3739 he does have ^G2192 shall be taken ^G142 away ^G142. 30 And throw ^G1544 out ^G1544 the worthless ^G888 slave ^G1401 into the outer ^G1857 darkness ^G4655; in that place ^G1563 there ^G1563 will be weeping ^G2805 and gnashing ^G1030 of teeth ^G3599.

The Final Judgment

31 “But when ^G3752 the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 comes ^G2064 in His glory ^G1391, and all ^G3956 the angels ^G32 with Him, then ^G5119 He will sit ^G2523 on His glorious ^G1391 throne ^G2362.

32 And all ^G3956 the nations ^G1484 will be gathered ^G4863 before ^G1715 Him; and He will separate ^G873 them from one ^G240 another ^G240, as the shepherd ^G4166 separates ^G873 the sheep ^G4263 from the goats ^G2056; 33 and He will put ^G2476 the sheep ^G4263 on His right ^G1188, and the goats ^G2055 on the left ^G2176.

34 “Then ^G5119 the King ^G935 will say ^G3004 to those ^G3588 on His right ^G1188, ‘Come ^G1205, you who are blessed ^G2127 of My Father ^G3962, inherit ^G2816 the kingdom ^G932, which has been prepared ^G2090 for you from the foundation ^G2602 of the world ^G2889. 35 For I was hungry ^G3983, and you gave ^G1325 Me something to eat ^G2068; I was thirsty ^G1372, and you gave ^G4222 Me something to ^G4222 drink ^G4222; I was a stranger ^G3581, and you invited ^G4863 Me in; 36 naked ^G1131, and you clothed ^G4016 Me; I was sick ^G770, and you visited ^G1980 Me; I was in prison ^G5438, and you came ^G2064 to Me.’ 37 Then ^G5119 the righteous ^G1342 will answer ^G611 Him, saying ^G3004, ‘Lord ^G2962, when ^G4219 did we see ^G3708 You hungry ^G3983, and feed ^G5142 You, or ^G2228 thirsty ^G1372, and give ^G4222 You something to ^G4222 drink ^G4222? 38 And when ^G4219 did we see ^G3708 You a stranger ^G3581, and invite ^G4863 You in, or ^G2228 naked ^G1131, and clothe ^G4016 You? 39 And when ^G4219 did we see ^G3708 You sick ^G770, or ^G2228 in prison ^G5438, and come ^G2064 to You?’ 40 And the King ^G935 will answer ^G611 and say ^G3004 to them, ‘Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, to the extent ^G1909 G3745 that you did ^G4160 it to one ^G1520 of these ^G3778 brothers ^G80 of Mine ^G1473, even the least ^G1646 of them, you did ^G4160 it to Me.’

41 “Then ^G5119 He will also ^G2532 say ^G3004 to those ^G3588 on His left ^G2176, ‘Depart ^G4198 from Me, accursed ^G2672 ones, into the eternal ^G166 fire ^G4442 which has been prepared ^G2090 for the devil ^G1228 and his angels ^G32; 42 for I was hungry ^G3983, and you gave ^G1325 Me nothing to eat ^G2068; I was thirsty ^G1372, and you gave ^G4222 Me nothing ^G3756 to ^G4222 drink ^G4222; 43 I was a stranger ^G3581, and you did not invite ^G4863 Me in; naked ^G1131, and you did not clothe ^G4016 Me; sick ^G772, and in prison ^G5438, and you did not visit ^G1980 Me.’ 44 Then ^G5119 they themselves ^G846 also ^G2532 will answer ^G611, saying ^G3004, ‘Lord ^G2962, when ^G4219 did we see ^G3708 You hungry ^G3983, or ^G2228 thirsty ^G1372, or ^G2228 a stranger ^G3581, or ^G2228 naked ^G1131, or ^G2228 sick ^G772, or ^G2228 in prison ^G5438, and did not [fn]take ^G1247 care ^G1247 of You?’ 45 Then ^G5119 He will answer ^G611 them, saying ^G3004, ‘Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, to the extent ^G1909 G3745 that you did ^G4160 not do ^G4160 it to one ^G1520 of the least ^G1646 of these ^G3778, you did ^G4160 not do ^G4160 it to Me.’ 46 And these ^G3778 will go ^G565 away ^G565 into eternal ^G166 punishment ^G2851, but the righteous ^G1342 into eternal ^G166 life ^G2222.”
