An Evil Time

1 Woe ^H1945 to those who devise ^H2803 wickedness ^H205,

Who work ^H6466 out evil ^H7451 on their beds ^H4904!

When the light of the morning ^H1242 comes, they do ^H6213 it,

For it is in the power ^H410 of their hands ^H3027.

2 And they covet ^H2530 fields ^H7704 and then tear ^H1497 them away,

And houses ^H1004, and take ^H5375 them away.

And they oppress ^H6231 a man ^H1397 and his house ^H1004,

A man ^H376 and his inheritance ^H5159.

3 Therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068,

“Behold ^H2009, I am devising ^H2803 against ^H5921 this ^H2088 family ^H4940 an evil ^H7451 demise

From which ^H834 you cannot ^H3808 remove ^H4185 your necks ^H6677;

And you will not walk ^H1980 haughtily ^H7317,

For it will be an evil ^H7451 time ^H6256.

4 “On that day ^H3117 they will take ^H5375 up ^H5375 against ^H5921 you a [fn]taunt ^H4912

And [fn]utter ^H5091 a bitter ^H5093 wailing ^H5092 and say ^H559,

‘We are completely ^H7703 devastated ^H7703!

He exchanges ^H4171 the portion ^H2506 of my people ^H5971;

How ^H349 He removes ^H4185 it from me!

To the faithless ^H7728 one, He apportions ^H2505 our fields ^H7704.’

5 “Therefore ^H3651 you will have ^H1961 no ^H3808 one [fn]stretching ^H7993 a measuring ^H2256 line ^H2256

For you by lot ^H1486 in the assembly ^H6951 of Yahweh ^H3068.

6 ‘Do not speak ^H5197, dripping ^H5197 out words,’ they say ^H5197 while dripping ^H5197 out words.

But if [fn]they do not drip ^H5197 out words concerning these ^H428 things ^H428,

Dishonor ^H3639 will not be turned ^H5472 back ^H5472.

7 “Is it being said ^H559, O house ^H1004 of Jacob ^H3290:

‘Is the Spirit ^H7307 of Yahweh ^H3068 impatient ^H7114?

Are these ^H428 His deeds ^H4611?’

Do not My words ^H1697 do ^H3190 good ^H3190

To the one walking ^H1980 uprightly ^H3477?

8 “[fn]And recently ^H865 My people ^H5971 have arisen ^H6965 as an enemy ^H340—

From unsuspecting ^H983 passers-by ^H5674,

From those returned ^H7725 from war ^H4421.

9 “The women ^H802 of My people ^H5971 you drive ^H1644 out ^H1644,

Each one from her pleasant ^H8588 house ^H1004.

From her infants ^H5768 you take ^H3947 My splendor ^H1926 forever ^H5769.

10 “Arise ^H6965 and go ^H1980,

For this ^H2088 is no ^H3808 place ^H4496 of ^H4496 rest ^H4496

Because ^H5668 of the uncleanness ^H2932 that wreaks ^H2254 destruction ^H2254,

A painful ^H4834 destruction ^H2256.

11 “If ^H3863 a man ^H376 walking ^H1980 after wind ^H7307 and lying ^H8267

Had acted ^H3576 falsely ^H3576 and said,

‘I will speak ^H5197, dripping ^H5197 out words to you concerning wine ^H3196 and liquor ^H7941,’

He would be one who drips ^H5197 out words as a spokesman to this ^H2088 people ^H5971.

12 “I will surely ^H622 assemble ^H622 all ^H3605 of you, Jacob ^H3290;

I will surely ^H6908 gather ^H6908 the remnant ^H7611 of Israel ^H3478.

I will put ^H7760 them together ^H3162 like sheep ^H6629 in the fold ^H1223;

Like a flock ^H5739 in the midst ^H8432 of its pasture ^H1699

They will be ^H1949 noisy ^H1949 with men ^H120.

13 “The breaker ^H6555 goes ^H5927 up ^H5927 before ^H6440 them;

They break ^H6555 out ^H6555, pass ^H5674 through ^H5674 the gate ^H8179, and go ^H3318 out ^H3318 by it.

So their king ^H4428 goes ^H5674 on ^H5674 before ^H6440 them,

And Yahweh ^H3068 at their head ^H7218.”
