Aaron’s Rod Buds
1 [fn]Then Yahweh H3068 spoke H1696 to Moses H4872, saying H559,
2 “Speak H1696 to the sons H1121 of Israel H3478, and get H3947 from them a rod H4294 for each father’s H1 household H1004: twelve H8147 H6240 rods H4294 from all H3605 their leaders H5387 according to their fathers’ H1 households H1004. You shall write H3789 each H376 name H8034 on his rod H4294, 3 and write H3789 Aaron’s H175 name H8034 on the rod H4294 of Levi H3878; for there is one H259 rod H4294 for the head H7218 of each of their fathers’ H1 households H1004. 4 You shall then deposit H5117 them in the tent H168 of meeting H4150 in front H6440 of the testimony H5715, where H834 H8033 I meet H3259 with you. 5 And it will come H1961 about H1961 that the rod H4294 of the man H376 whom H834 I choose H977 will sprout H6524. Thus I will rid H7918 Myself of the grumblings H8519 of the sons H1121 of Israel H3478, who H834 are grumbling H3885 against H5921 you.” 6 Moses H4872 therefore spoke H1696 to the sons H1121 of Israel H3478, and all H3605 their leaders H5387 gave H5414 him a rod H4294 apiece H259, for each H259 leader H5387 according to their fathers’ H1 households H1004, twelve H8147 H6240 rods H4294, with the rod H4294 of Aaron H175 among H8432 their rods H4294. 7 So Moses H4872 deposited H5117 the rods H4294 before H6440 Yahweh H3068 in the tent H168 of the testimony H5715.
8 Now it happened on the next H4283 day H4283 Moses H4872 went H935 into the tent H168 of the testimony H5715; and behold H2009, the rod H4294 of Aaron H175 for the house H1004 of Levi H3878 had sprouted H6524 and put H3318 forth H3318 buds H6525 and produced H6692 flowers H6692, and it bore H1580 ripe H1580 almonds H8247. 9 Moses H4872 then brought H3318 out H3318 all H3605 the rods H4294 from the presence H6440 of Yahweh H3068 to all H3605 the sons H1121 of Israel H3478; and they looked H7200, and each H376 man H376 took H3947 his rod H4294. 10 But Yahweh H3068 said H559 to Moses H4872, “Put H7725 back H7725 the rod H4294 of Aaron H175 before H6440 the testimony H5715 [fn]to be kept H4931 as a sign H226 against the [fn]rebels H4805, that you may put H3615 an H3615 end H3615 to H3615 their grumblings H8519 against H4480 H5921 Me, so that they will not die H4191.” 11 Thus Moses H4872 did H6213; just H834 as Yahweh H3068 had commanded H6680 him, so H3651 he did H6213.
12 Then the sons H1121 of Israel H3478 spoke H559 to Moses H4872, saying H559, “Behold H2005, we are breathing H1478 our H1478 last H1478 breath H1478, we are perishing H6, we are all H3605 perishing H6! 13 Everyone H3605 who comes H7131 near H7131, who comes H7131 near H7131 to the tabernacle H4908 of Yahweh H3068, must die H4191. Are we to breathe H1478 our H1478 utter H8552 last H1478?”
