The Daughters of Zelophehad

1 Then the daughters ^H1323 of Zelophehad ^H6765, the son ^H1121 of Hepher ^H2660, the son ^H1121 of Gilead ^H1568, the son ^H1121 of Machir ^H4353, the son ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519, of the families ^H4940 of Manasseh ^H4519 the son ^H1121 of Joseph ^H3130, came ^H7126 near ^H7126; and these ^H428 are the names ^H8034 of his daughters ^H1323: Mahlah ^H4244, Noah ^H5270 and Hoglah ^H2295 and Milcah ^H4435 and Tirzah ^H8656.

2 And they stood ^H5975 before ^H6440 Moses ^H4872 and before ^H6440 Eleazar ^H499 the priest ^H3548 and before ^H6440 the leaders ^H5387 and all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712, at the doorway ^H6607 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, saying ^H559, 3 “Our father ^H1 died ^H4191 in the wilderness ^H4057, yet he was not among ^H8432 the congregation ^H5712 of those who gathered ^H3259 themselves together against ^H5921 Yahweh ^H3068 in the congregation ^H5712 of Korah ^H7141; but he died ^H4191 in his own sin ^H2399, and he had ^H1961 no ^H3808 sons ^H1121. 4 Why ^H4100 should the name ^H8034 of our father ^H1 be withdrawn ^H1639 from among ^H8432 his family ^H4940 because ^H3588 he had ^H369 no ^H369 son ^H1121? Give ^H5414 us a possession ^H272 among ^H8432 our father’s ^H1 brothers ^H251.” 5 So Moses ^H4872 brought ^H7126 their case ^H4941 near ^H7126 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068.

6 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, saying ^H559, 7 “The daughters ^H1323 of Zelophehad ^H6765 are right ^H3651 in their statements ^H1696. You shall surely ^H5414 give ^H5414 them a possession ^H272 for an inheritance ^H5159 among ^H8432 their father’s ^H1 brothers ^H251, and you shall have ^H5674 the inheritance ^H5159 of their father ^H1 pass ^H5674 on to them. 8 Further, you shall speak ^H1696 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, saying ^H559, ‘If ^H3588 a man ^H376 dies ^H4191 and has ^H369 no ^H369 son ^H1121, then you shall have ^H5674 his inheritance ^H5159 pass ^H5674 on to his daughter ^H1323. 9 And if ^H518 he has ^H369 no ^H369 daughter ^H1323, then you shall give ^H5414 his inheritance ^H5159 to his brothers ^H251. 10 And if ^H518 he has ^H369 no ^H369 brothers ^H251, then you shall give ^H5414 his inheritance ^H5159 to his father’s ^H1 brothers ^H251. 11 And if ^H518 his father ^H1 has ^H369 no ^H369 brothers ^H251, then you shall give ^H5414 his inheritance ^H5159 to his blood ^H7138 relative ^H7607 in his own family ^H4940, and he shall possess ^H3423 it; and it shall be a statutory ^H2708 judgment ^H4941 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 commanded ^H6680 Moses ^H4872.’”

12 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Go ^H5927 up ^H5927 to this ^H2088 mountain ^H2022 of Abarim ^H5682, and see ^H7200 the land ^H776 which ^H834 I have given ^H5414 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478. 13 So when you have seen ^H7200 it, you too ^H1571 will be gathered ^H622 to your people ^H5971, as Aaron ^H175 your brother ^H251 [fn]was, 14 for in the wilderness ^H4057 of Zin ^H6790, during the strife ^H4808 of the congregation ^H5712, you rebelled ^H4784 against ^H854 My [fn]command ^H6310 [fn]to treat ^H6942 Me as ^H6942 holy ^H6942 before ^H6440 their eyes ^H5869 at the water ^H4325.” (These ^H1992 are the waters ^H4325 of Meribah ^H4809 of Kadesh ^H6946 in the wilderness ^H4057 of Zin ^H6790.)

Moses Commissions Joshua

15 Then Moses ^H4872 spoke ^H1696 to Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559,

16 “May Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of the spirits ^H7307 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320, appoint ^H6485 a man ^H376 over ^H5921 the congregation ^H5712, 17 who ^H834 will go ^H3318 out ^H3318 [fn]and come ^H935 in ^H935 before ^H6440 them, and who ^H834 will lead ^H3318 them out ^H3318 and [fn]bring ^H935 them in ^H935, so that the congregation ^H5712 of Yahweh ^H3068 will not be like sheep ^H6629 which ^H834 have ^H369 no ^H369 shepherd ^H7462.” 18 So Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “[fn]Take ^H3947 Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Nun ^H5126, a man ^H376 in whom ^H834 is the Spirit ^H7307, and lay ^H5564 your hand ^H3027 on him; 19 and have him stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 Eleazar ^H499 the priest ^H3548 and before ^H6440 all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712, and commission ^H6680 him in their sight ^H5869. 20 And you shall put ^H5414 some ^H4480 of your [fn]splendor ^H1935 on him, in order ^H4616 that all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 may obey ^H8085 him. 21 Moreover, he shall stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 Eleazar ^H499 the priest ^H3548, who shall inquire ^H7592 for him by the judgment ^H4941 of the Urim ^H224 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068. At his [fn]command ^H6310 they shall go ^H3318 out ^H3318, and at his [fn]command ^H6310 they shall come ^H935 in ^H935, both he and the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 with him, even all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712.” 22 So Moses ^H4872 did ^H6213 just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 commanded ^H6680 him; and he took ^H3947 Joshua ^H3091 and had ^H5975 him stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 Eleazar ^H499 the priest ^H3548 and before ^H6440 all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712. 23 Then he laid ^H5564 his hands ^H3027 on him and commissioned ^H6680 him, just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 had spoken ^H1696 by the hand ^H3027 of Moses ^H4872.
