Inheritance Through Marriage

1 And the heads ^H7218 of the fathers’ ^H1 households of the family ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of Gilead ^H1568, the son ^H1121 of Machir ^H4353, the son ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519, of the families ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of Joseph ^H3130, came ^H7126 near ^H7126 and spoke ^H1696 before ^H6440 Moses ^H4872 and before ^H6440 the leaders ^H5387, the heads ^H7218 of the fathers’ ^H1 households of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478,

2 and they said ^H559, “Yahweh ^H3068 commanded ^H6680 my lord ^H113 to give ^H5414 the land ^H776 by lot ^H1486 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 as an inheritance ^H5159, and my lord ^H113 was commanded ^H6680 by Yahweh ^H3068 to give ^H5414 the inheritance ^H5159 of Zelophehad ^H6765 our brother ^H251 to his daughters ^H1323. 3 But if they [fn]marry ^H1961 H802 one ^H259 of the sons ^H1121 of the other tribes ^H7626 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, their inheritance ^H5159 will be withdrawn ^H1639 from the inheritance ^H5159 of our fathers ^H1 and will be added ^H3254 to the inheritance ^H5159 of the tribe ^H4294 to which ^H834 they belong ^H1961; thus it will be withdrawn ^H1639 from our allotted ^H1486 inheritance ^H5159. 4 And when ^H518 the jubilee ^H3104 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 [fn]comes ^H1961, then their inheritance ^H5159 will be added ^H3254 to the inheritance ^H5159 of the tribe ^H4294 to which ^H834 they belong ^H1961; so their inheritance ^H5159 will be withdrawn ^H1639 from the inheritance ^H5159 of the tribe ^H4294 of our fathers ^H1.”

5 Then Moses ^H4872 commanded ^H6680 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 according ^H5921 to the [fn]word ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559, “The tribe ^H4294 of the sons ^H1121 of Joseph ^H3130 are right ^H3651 in their statements ^H1696. 6 This ^H2088 is [fn]what ^H1697 H834 Yahweh ^H3068 has commanded ^H6680 concerning the daughters ^H1323 of Zelophehad ^H6765, saying ^H559, ‘Let them marry ^H1961 H802 whoever is good ^H2896 in their sight ^H5869; only ^H389 they must marry ^H1961 H802 within the family ^H4940 of the tribe ^H4294 of their father ^H1.’ 7 Thus no ^H3808 inheritance ^H5159 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 shall [fn]be transferred ^H5437 from tribe ^H4294 to tribe ^H4294, for the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 shall each ^H376 [fn]hold ^H1692 to the inheritance ^H5159 of the tribe ^H4294 of his fathers ^H1. 8 And every ^H3605 daughter ^H1323 who comes ^H3423 into possession ^H3423 of an inheritance ^H5159 of any ^H4480 tribe ^H4294 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 shall be wife ^H802 to one ^H259 of the family ^H4940 of the tribe ^H4294 of her father ^H1, so ^H4616 that the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 each ^H376 may possess ^H3423 the inheritance ^H5159 of his fathers ^H1. 9 Thus no ^H3808 inheritance ^H5159 shall [fn]be transferred ^H5437 from one tribe ^H4294 to another ^H312 tribe ^H4294, for the tribes ^H4294 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 shall each ^H376 [fn]hold ^H1692 to his own inheritance ^H5159.”

10 Just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680 Moses ^H4872, so ^H3651 the daughters ^H1323 of Zelophehad ^H6765 did ^H6213: 11 And Mahlah ^H4244, Tirzah ^H8656, Hoglah ^H2295, Milcah ^H4435, and Noah ^H5270, the daughters ^H1323 of Zelophehad ^H6765 married ^H802 their uncles’ ^H1730 sons ^H1121. 12 They married ^H802 those from the families ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519 the son ^H1121 of Joseph ^H3130, and their inheritance ^H5159 [fn]remained ^H1961 with the tribe ^H4294 of the family ^H4940 of their father ^H1.

13 These ^H428 are the commandments ^H4687 and the judgments ^H4941 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 commanded ^H6680 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 by the hand ^H3027 of Moses ^H4872 in the plains ^H6160 of Moab ^H4124 by the Jordan ^H3383 opposite Jericho ^H3405.
