Duties of the Kohathites

2 “Take ^H5375 [fn]a census ^H7218 of the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Kohath ^H6955 from among ^H8432 the sons ^H1121 of Levi ^H3878, by their families ^H4940, by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004, 3 from thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 and upward ^H4605, even to fifty ^H2572 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, all ^H3605 who enter ^H935 the duty ^H6635 of doing ^H6213 the work ^H4399 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150. 4 This ^H2088 is the service ^H5656 of the sons ^H1121 of Kohath ^H6955 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, concerning the most ^H6944 holy ^H6944 things ^H6944.

5 “And when the camp ^H4264 sets ^H5265 out ^H5265, Aaron ^H175 and his sons ^H1121 shall go ^H935 in ^H935 and they shall take ^H3381 down ^H3381 the veil ^H6532 of the screen ^H4539 and cover ^H3680 the ark ^H727 of the testimony ^H5715 with it; 6 and they shall put ^H5414 a covering ^H3681 of porpoise ^H8476 skin ^H5785 on it and shall spread ^H6566 over ^H4605 it a cloth ^H899 of pure ^H3632 [fn]blue ^H8504 and shall insert ^H7760 its poles ^H905. 7 Over ^H5921 the table ^H7979 of the bread of the Presence ^H6440 they shall also spread ^H6566 a cloth ^H899 of [fn]blue ^H8504 and put ^H5414 on it the dishes ^H7086 and the pans ^H3709 and the offering ^H4518 bowls ^H4518 and the jars ^H7184 for the drink ^H5262 offering ^H5262, and the continual ^H8548 bread ^H3899 shall be on it. 8 And they shall spread ^H6566 over ^H5921 them a cloth ^H899 of scarlet ^H8144 material and cover ^H3680 the same ^H853 with a covering ^H4372 of porpoise ^H8476 skin ^H5785, and they shall insert ^H7760 its poles ^H905. 9 Then they shall take ^H3947 a [fn]blue ^H8504 cloth ^H899 and cover ^H3680 the lampstand ^H4501 for the light ^H3974, along with its lamps ^H5216 and its tongs ^H4457, and its [fn]trays ^H4289 and all ^H3605 its oil ^H8081 vessels ^H3627, by which ^H834 they minister ^H8334 in connection to it; 10 and they shall put ^H5414 it and all ^H3605 its utensils ^H3627 in a covering ^H4372 of porpoise ^H8476 skin ^H5785 and shall put ^H5414 it on the carrying ^H4132 bars ^H4132. 11 And over ^H5921 the golden ^H2091 altar ^H4196 they shall spread ^H6566 a [fn]blue ^H8504 cloth ^H899 and cover ^H3680 it with a covering ^H4372 of porpoise ^H8476 skin ^H5785 and shall insert ^H7760 its poles ^H905; 12 and they shall take ^H3947 all ^H3605 the utensils ^H3627 of ministry ^H8335, with which ^H834 they minister ^H8334 in the sanctuary ^H6944, and put ^H5414 them in a [fn]blue ^H8504 cloth ^H899 and cover ^H3680 them with a covering ^H4372 of porpoise ^H8476 skin ^H5785 and put ^H5414 them on the carrying ^H4132 bars ^H4132. 13 Then they shall take ^H1878 away ^H1878 the [fn]ashes ^H1878 from the altar ^H4196 and spread ^H6566 a purple ^H713 cloth ^H899 over ^H5921 it. 14 They shall also put ^H5414 on it all ^H3605 its utensils ^H3627 by which ^H834 they minister ^H8334 in ^H5921 connection ^H5921 with ^H5921 it: the firepans ^H4289, the flesh ^H4207 hooks ^H4207 and shovels ^H3257 and the bowls ^H4219, all ^H3605 the utensils ^H3627 of the altar ^H4196; and they shall spread ^H6566 a cover ^H3681 of porpoise ^H8476 skin ^H5785 over ^H5921 it and insert ^H7760 its poles ^H905. 15 When Aaron ^H175 and his sons ^H1121 have finished ^H3615 covering ^H3680 the holy ^H6944 objects and all ^H3605 the furnishings ^H3627 of the sanctuary ^H6944, when the camp ^H4264 is to set ^H5265 out ^H5265, after ^H310 that the sons ^H1121 of Kohath ^H6955 shall come ^H935 to carry ^H5375 them, so that they will not touch ^H5060 the holy ^H6944 objects and die ^H4191. These ^H428 are the [fn]things ^H4853 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150 which the sons ^H1121 of Kohath ^H6955 are to ^H4853 carry ^H4853.

16 “And the assignment ^H6486 of Eleazar ^H499 the son ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 the priest ^H3548 is the oil ^H8081 for the light ^H3974 and the fragrant ^H5561 incense ^H7004 and the continual ^H8548 grain offering ^H4503 and the anointing ^H4888 oil ^H8081—the assignment ^H6486 of all ^H3605 the [fn]tabernacle ^H4908 and of all ^H3605 that is in it, with the sanctuary ^H6944 and its furnishings ^H3627.”

17 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872 and to Aaron ^H175, saying ^H559, 18 “Do not let the tribe ^H7626 of the families ^H4940 of the Kohathites ^H6956 be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 from among ^H8432 the Levites ^H3881. 19 But do ^H6213 this ^H2088 to them that they may live ^H2421 and not die ^H4191 when they approach ^H5066 the most ^H6944 holy ^H6944 objects: Aaron ^H175 and his sons ^H1121 shall go ^H935 in ^H935 and set ^H7760 each ^H376 of them to his service ^H5656 and to his load ^H4853; 20 but they shall not go ^H935 in ^H935 to see ^H7200 the holy ^H6944 objects even for ^H1104 a ^H1104 moment ^H1104, or they will die ^H4191.”

22 “Take ^H5375 [fn]a census ^H7218 of the sons ^H1121 of Gershon ^H1648 [fn]also ^H1571, by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004, by their families ^H4940; 23 from thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 and upward ^H4605 to fifty ^H2572 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, you shall [fn]number ^H6485 them; all ^H3605 who enter ^H935 to perform ^H6633 the duty ^H6635 of performing ^H5647 the service ^H5656 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150. 24 This ^H2088 is the service ^H5656 of the families ^H4940 of the Gershonites ^H1649, in serving ^H5647 and in carrying ^H4853: 25 they shall carry ^H5375 the curtains ^H3407 of the tabernacle ^H4908 and the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150 with its covering ^H4372 and the covering ^H4372 of porpoise ^H8476 skin ^H8476 that is on top ^H4605 of it, and the screen ^H4539 for the doorway ^H6607 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, 26 and the hangings ^H7050 of the court ^H2691, and the screen ^H4539 for the doorway ^H6607 of the gate ^H8179 of the court ^H2691 which ^H834 is around ^H5439 the tabernacle ^H4908 and the altar ^H4196, and their cords ^H4340 and all ^H3605 the equipment ^H3627 for their service ^H5656; and all ^H3605 that is to be done ^H6213, [fn]they shall perform ^H5647. 27 All ^H3605 the service ^H5656 of the sons ^H1121 of the Gershonites ^H1649, in all ^H3605 their loads ^H4853 and in all ^H3605 their service ^H5656, shall be performed at the [fn]command ^H6310 of Aaron ^H175 and his sons ^H1121; and you shall assign ^H6485 to them as a responsibility ^H4931 all ^H3605 their loads ^H4853. 28 This ^H2088 is the service ^H5656 of the families ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of the Gershonites ^H1649 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, and their responsibilities ^H4931 shall be [fn]under the direction ^H3027 of Ithamar ^H385 the son ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 the priest ^H3548.

Duties of the Merarites

29 “As for the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847, you shall number ^H6485 them by their families ^H4940, by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004;

30 from thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 and upward ^H4605 even to fifty ^H2572 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, you shall number ^H6485 them, everyone ^H3605 who enters ^H935 the duty ^H6635 of performing ^H5647 the service ^H5656 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150. 31 Now this ^H2088 is the responsibility ^H4931 of their loads ^H4853, for all ^H3605 their service ^H5656 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150: the boards ^H7175 of the tabernacle ^H4908 and its bars ^H1280 and its pillars ^H5982 and its bases ^H134, 32 and the pillars ^H5982 around ^H5439 the court ^H2691 and their bases ^H134 and their pegs ^H3489 and their cords ^H4340, with all ^H3605 their equipment ^H3627 and with all ^H3605 their service ^H5656; and you shall assign ^H6485 each man by name ^H8034 the items ^H3627 of the responsibility ^H4931 of [fn]his load ^H4853. 33 This ^H2088 is the service ^H5656 of the families ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847, according to all ^H3605 their service ^H5656 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, [fn]under the direction ^H3027 of Ithamar ^H385 the son ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 the priest ^H3548.”

34 So Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 and the leaders ^H5387 of the congregation ^H5712 numbered ^H6485 the sons ^H1121 of the Kohathites ^H6956 by their families ^H4940 and by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004, 35 from thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 and upward ^H4605 even to fifty ^H2572 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, everyone ^H3605 who entered ^H935 the duty ^H6635 of service ^H5656 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150. 36 Their numbered ^H6485 men by their families ^H4940 were 2,750 ^{H505 H7651 H3967 H2572}. 37 These ^H428 are the numbered ^H6485 men of the Kohathite ^H6956 families ^H4940, everyone ^H3605 who was serving ^H5647 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, whom ^H834 Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 numbered ^H6485 according ^H5921 to the [fn]commandment ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068 by the hand ^H3027 of Moses ^H4872.

38 The numbered ^H6485 men of the sons ^H1121 of Gershon ^H1648 by their families ^H4940 and by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004, 39 from thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 and upward ^H4605 even to fifty ^H2572 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, everyone ^H3605 who entered ^H935 the duty ^H6635 of service ^H5656 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, 40 their numbered ^H6485 men by their families ^H4940, by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004, were 2,630 ^{H505 H8337 H3967 H7970}. 41 These ^H428 are the numbered ^H6485 men of the families ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of Gershon ^H1648, everyone ^H3605 who was serving ^H5647 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, whom ^H834 Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 numbered ^H6485 according ^H5921 to the [fn]commandment ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068.

42 The numbered ^H6485 men of the families ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847 by their families ^H4940, by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004, 43 from thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 and upward ^H4605 even to fifty ^H2572 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, everyone ^H3605 who entered ^H935 the duty ^H6635 of service ^H5656 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, 44 their numbered ^H6485 men by their families ^H4940 were 3,200 ^{H7969 H505 H3967}. 45 These ^H428 are the numbered ^H6485 men of the families ^H4940 of the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847, whom ^H834 Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 numbered ^H6485 according ^H5921 to the [fn]commandment ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068 by the hand ^H3027 of Moses ^H4872.

46 All ^H3605 the numbered ^H6485 men of the Levites ^H3881, whom ^H834 Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 and the leaders ^H5387 of Israel ^H3478 numbered ^H6485, by their families ^H4940 and by their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004, 47 from thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 and upward ^H4605 even to fifty ^H2572 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, everyone ^H3605 who could enter ^H935 to perform ^H5647 the work ^H5656 of service ^H5656 and the service ^H5656 of carrying ^H4853 in the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, 48 their numbered ^H6485 men were 8,580 ^{H8083 H505 H2568 H3967 H8084}. 49 According ^H5921 to the [fn]word ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068 by the hand ^H3027 of Moses ^H4872, they were numbered ^H6485, everyone ^H376 by his serving ^H5656 or carrying ^H4853; thus these were his numbered ^H6485 men, just ^H834 as ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680 Moses ^H4872.
