Unclean Sent Outside the Camp

1 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, saying ^H559,

2 “Command ^H6680 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 that they send ^H7971 away ^H7971 from the camp ^H4264 every ^H3605 leper ^H6879 and everyone ^H3605 having a discharge ^H2100 and everyone ^H3605 who is [fn]unclean ^H2931 because of a dead person ^H5315. 3 You shall send ^H7971 away ^H7971 both ^H4480 male ^H2145 and female ^H5347; you shall send ^H7971 them outside ^{H413 H4480 H2351} the camp ^H4264 so that they will not defile ^H2930 their camp ^H4264 where ^H834 I dwell ^H7931 in their midst ^H8432.” 4 And the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 did ^H6213 so ^H3651 and sent ^H7971 them outside ^{H413 H4480 H2351} the camp ^H4264; just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 had spoken ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, thus ^H3651 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 did ^H6213.

Restitution for Sins

5 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, saying ^H559,

6 “Speak ^H1696 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, ‘When ^H3588 a man ^H376 or ^H176 woman ^H802 commits ^H6213 any ^H4480 H3605 of the sins ^H2403 of mankind ^H120, acting ^H4603 unfaithfully ^H4603 H4604 against Yahweh ^H3068, and that person ^H5315 is guilty ^H816, 7 then [fn]he shall confess ^H3034 [fn]his sins ^H2403 which ^H834 [fn]he has committed ^H6213, and he shall make ^H7725 restitution ^H7725 in ^H7218 full ^H7218 for his wrong ^H817 and add ^H3254 to it one-fifth ^H2549 of it and give ^H5414 it to him whom ^H834 he has [fn]wronged ^H816. 8 But if ^H518 the man ^H376 has ^H369 no ^H369 kinsman redeemer ^H1350 to whom restitution ^H7725 may be made ^H7725 for the wrong ^H817, the restitution ^H7725 which is made ^H7725 for the wrong ^H817 must go to Yahweh ^H3068 for the priest ^H3548, besides ^H4480 H905 the ram ^H352 of atonement ^H3725, by which ^H834 atonement ^H3722 is made ^H3722 for him. 9 Also every ^H3605 [fn]contribution ^H8641 pertaining to all ^H3605 the holy ^H6944 gifts of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, which ^H834 they bring ^H7126 near ^H7126 to the priest ^H3548, shall be his. 10 So every ^H376 man’s ^H376 holy ^H6944 gifts shall be his; whatever ^H834 any ^H376 man ^H376 gives ^H5414 to the priest ^H3548, it becomes ^H1961 his.’”

The Statutes of Jealousy

11 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, saying ^H559,

12 “Speak ^H1696 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 and say ^H559 to them, ‘If ^H3588 any ^H376 man’s ^H376 wife ^H802 goes ^H7847 astray ^H7847 and is unfaithful ^H4604 to him, 13 and a man ^H376 lies ^H7901 sexually ^H2233 H7902 with her, and it is hidden ^H5956 from the eyes ^H5869 of her husband ^H376, and she is [fn]undetected ^H5641; but she has defiled ^H2930 herself ^H1931, and there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 witness ^H5707 against her, and she has not been caught ^H8610 in the act, 14 [fn]if a spirit ^H7307 of jealousy ^H7068 comes ^H5674 over ^H5921 him and he is ^H7065 jealous ^H7065 of his wife ^H802 and she has defiled ^H2930 herself, or ^H176 if a spirit ^H7307 of jealousy ^H7068 comes ^H5674 over ^H5921 him and he is ^H7065 jealous ^H7065 of his wife ^H802 but she has not defiled ^H2930 herself, 15 the man ^H376 shall then bring ^H935 his wife ^H802 to the priest ^H3548 and shall bring ^H935 as [fn]an offering ^H7133 for her one-tenth ^H6224 of an [fn]ephah ^H374 of barley ^H8184 meal ^H7058; he shall not pour ^H3332 oil ^H8081 on it nor ^H3808 put ^H5414 frankincense ^H3828 on it, for it is a grain offering ^H4503 of jealousy ^H7068, a grain offering ^H4503 of remembrance ^H2146, a reminder ^H2142 of iniquity ^H5771.

16 ‘Then the priest ^H3548 shall bring ^H7126 her near ^H7126 and have her stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068, 17 and the priest ^H3548 shall take ^H3947 holy ^H6918 water ^H4325 in an earthenware ^H2789 vessel ^H3627; and the priest shall take ^H3947 some ^H4480 of the dust ^H6083 that is on the floor ^H7172 of the tabernacle ^H4908 and put ^H5414 it into the water ^H4325. 18 The priest ^H3548 shall then have the woman ^H802 stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068 and let ^H6544 the hair of the woman’s ^H802 head ^H7218 go ^H6544 loose ^H6544, and he shall place ^H5414 the grain offering ^H4503 of remembrance ^H2146 [fn]in her hands ^H3709, which ^H1931 is the grain offering ^H4503 of jealousy ^H7068; and in the hand ^H3027 of the priest ^H3548 is to be the water ^H4325 of bitterness ^H4751 that brings ^H779 curses ^H779. 19 Then the priest ^H3548 shall have her swear ^H7650 an oath and shall say ^H559 to the woman ^H802, “If ^H518 no ^H3808 man ^H376 has lain ^H7901 with you, and if ^H518 you have not gone ^H7847 astray ^H7847 into [fn]defilement ^H2932, being under ^H8478 the authority of your husband ^H376, be ^H5352 free ^H5352 from this ^H428 water ^H4325 of bitterness ^H4751 that brings ^H779 curses ^H779; 20 if ^H3588 you, however, have gone ^H7847 astray ^H7847, being under ^H8478 the authority of your husband ^H376, and if ^H3588 you have defiled ^H2930 yourself, and a man ^H376 other ^H1107 than ^H1107 your husband ^H376 has lain ^H5414 H7903 with you” 21 (then the priest ^H3548 shall have the woman ^H802 swear ^H7650 with the oath ^H7621 of the curse ^H423, and the priest ^H3548 shall say ^H559 to the woman ^H802), “Yahweh ^H3068 make ^H5414 you a curse ^H423 and an oath ^H7621 among ^H8432 your people ^H5971 by Yahweh ^H3068 making ^H5414 your thigh ^H3409 fall ^H5307 away ^H5307 and your abdomen ^H990 swell ^H6639; 22 and this ^H428 water ^H4325 that brings ^H779 curses ^H779 shall go ^H935 into your [fn]stomach ^H4578 and make your abdomen ^H990 swell ^H6638 and your thigh ^H3409 fall ^H5307 away ^H5307.” And the woman ^H802 shall say ^H559, “Amen ^H543. Amen ^H543.”

23 ‘The priest ^H3548 shall then write ^H3789 these ^H428 curses ^H423 on a scroll ^H5612, and he shall [fn]wash ^H4229 them off ^H4229 into the water ^H4325 of bitterness ^H4751. 24 Then he shall make ^H8248 the woman ^H802 drink ^H8248 the water ^H4325 of bitterness ^H4751 that brings ^H779 curses ^H779, so that the water ^H4325 which brings ^H779 a curse ^H779 will go ^H935 into her to cause bitterness ^H4751. 25 And the priest ^H3548 shall take ^H3947 the grain offering ^H4503 of jealousy ^H7068 from the woman’s ^H802 hand ^H3027, and he shall wave ^H5130 the grain offering ^H4503 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068 and bring ^H7126 it near ^H7126 to the altar ^H4196; 26 and the priest ^H3548 shall take ^H7061 a ^H7061 handful ^H7061 of the grain offering ^H4503 as its memorial ^H234 offering ^H234 and offer ^H6999 it up ^H6999 in ^H6999 smoke ^H6999 on the altar ^H4196, and afterward ^H310 he shall make ^H8248 the woman ^H802 drink ^H8248 the water ^H4325. 27 So he will have ^H8248 her drink ^H8248 the water ^H4325, and it will be ^H1961 that, if ^H518 she has defiled ^H2930 herself and has been ^H4603 unfaithful ^H4603 H4604 to her husband ^H376, that the water ^H4325 which brings ^H779 curses ^H779 will go ^H935 into her to cause bitterness ^H4751, and her abdomen ^H990 will swell ^H6638 and her thigh ^H3409 will fall ^H5307 away ^H5307, and the woman ^H802 will become ^H1961 a curse ^H423 among ^H7130 her people ^H5971. 28 But if ^H518 the woman ^H802 has not defiled ^H2930 herself and is clean ^H2889, she will then be ^H5352 free ^H5352 and conceive ^H2232 a seed ^H2233.

29 ‘This ^H2088 is the law ^H8451 of jealousy ^H7068: when ^H834 a wife ^H802, being under ^H8478 the authority of her husband ^H376, goes ^H7847 astray ^H7847 and defiles ^H2930 herself, 30 or ^H176 when ^H834 a spirit ^H7307 of jealousy ^H7068 comes ^H5674 over ^H5921 a man ^H376 and he is ^H7065 jealous ^H7065 of his wife ^H802, he shall then make the woman ^H802 stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068, and the priest ^H3548 shall apply ^H6213 all ^H3605 this ^H2088 law ^H8451 to her. 31 Moreover, the man ^H376 will be ^H5352 free ^H5352 from [fn]guilt ^H5771, but that woman ^H802 shall bear ^H5375 her [fn]guilt ^H5771.’”
