Edom Will Be Brought Down

1 The vision ^H2377 of Obadiah ^H5662.

Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 concerning Edom ^H123—

We have heard ^H8085 a report ^H8052 from Yahweh ^H3068,

And an envoy ^H6735 has been sent ^H7971 among the nations ^H1471 saying,

“Arise ^H6965! And let us arise ^H6965 against ^H5921 her for battle ^H4421”—

2 “Behold ^H2009, I will make ^H5414 you small ^H6996 among the nations ^H1471;

You are greatly ^H3966 despised ^H959.

3 “The arrogance ^H2087 of your heart ^H3820 has deceived ^H5378 you,

You who dwell ^H7675 in ^H7675 the clefts ^H2288 of [fn]the cliff ^H5553,

In the height ^H4791 of your habitation ^H7675,

Who says ^H559 in his heart ^H3820,

‘Who ^H4310 will bring ^H3381 me down ^H3381 to earth ^H776?’

4 “Though ^H518 you build ^H1361 loftily ^H1361 like the eagle ^H5404,

Though ^H518 you set ^H7760 your nest ^H7064 among ^H996 the stars ^H3556,

From there ^H8033 I will bring ^H3381 you down ^H3381,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

5 “If ^H518 thieves ^H1590 came ^H935 to you,

If ^H518 [fn]robbers ^H7703 by night ^H3915—

Oh how ^H349 you will be ruined ^H1820!—

Would they not thieve ^H1589 only [fn]until they had enough ^H1767?

If ^H518 grape gatherers ^H1219 came ^H935 to you,

Would they not allow some gleanings ^H5955 to remain ^H7604?

6 “Oh how ^H349 Esau ^H6215 will be searched ^H2664 out ^H2664

And his hidden ^H4710 treasures ^H4710 ransacked ^H1158!

7 “All ^H3605 the men ^H376 who have [fn]a covenant ^H1285 with you

Will send ^H7971 you forth to the border ^H1366,

And the men ^H376 at peace ^H7965 with you

Will deceive ^H5378 you and overpower ^H3201 you.

They who eat your bread ^H3899

8 “Will I not on that day ^H3117,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068,

“Cause the wise ^H2450 men ^H2450 to perish ^H6 from Edom ^H123

And discernment ^H8394 from the mountain ^H2022 of Esau ^H6215?

9 “Then your mighty ^H1368 men ^H1368 will be ^H2865 dismayed ^H2865, O Teman ^H8487,

12 “Now do not look ^H7200 on your brother’s ^H251 day ^H3117 with triumph,

The day ^H3117 of his misfortune ^H5235.

And do not be glad ^H8055 over the sons ^H1121 of Judah ^H3063

In the day ^H3117 when they perish ^H6;

And do not [fn]let ^H1431 your mouth ^H6310 speak great ^H1431 things ^H1431

In the day ^H3117 of their distress ^H6869.

13 “Do not enter ^H935 the gate ^H8179 of My people ^H5971

In the day ^H3117 of their disaster ^H343.

Indeed ^H1571, you, do not look ^H7200 on their calamity ^H7451 with triumph

In the day ^H3117 of their disaster ^H343.

And do not send ^H7971 out ^H7971 for their wealth ^H2428

14 “Do not stand ^H5975 at the fork ^H6563 of the road ^H6563

To cut ^H3772 down ^H3772 those among them who escape ^H6412;

And do not deliver ^H5462 over ^H5462 their survivors ^H8300

In the day ^H3117 of their distress ^H6869.

The Day of Yahweh Is Near

15 “For the day ^H3117 of Yahweh ^H3068 draws ^H7138 near ^H7138 on all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471.

As you have done ^H6213, it will be done ^H6213 to you.

Your dealings ^H1576 will return ^H7725 on your own head ^H7218.

16 “Because ^H3588 just ^H834 as you all drank ^H8354 on My holy ^H6944 mountain ^H2022,

17 “But on Mount ^H2022 Zion ^H6726 there will be those who ^H6413 escape ^H6413,

And it will be holy ^H6944.

And the house ^H1004 of Jacob ^H3290 will possess ^H3423 their possessions ^H4180.

18 “Then the house ^H1004 of Jacob ^H3290 will be a fire ^H784

And the house ^H1004 of Joseph ^H3130 a flame ^H3852;

But the house ^H1004 of Esau ^H6215 will be as stubble ^H7179.

And they will set ^H1814 [fn]them on ^H1814 fire ^H1814 and consume ^H398 [fn]them

So that there will be no ^H3808 survivor ^H8300 of the house ^H1004 of Esau ^H6215,”

For Yahweh ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696.

The Kingdom of Yahweh

19 Then those of the [fn]Negev ^H5045 will possess ^H3423 the mountain ^H2022 of Esau ^H6215,

And those of the [fn]Shephelah ^H8219, the Philistine ^H6430 plain;

And they will possess ^H3423 the territory ^H7704 of Ephraim ^H669 and the territory ^H7704 of Samaria ^H8111,

And Benjamin ^H1144 will possess Gilead ^H1568.

20 And the exiles ^H1546 of this ^H2088 [fn]military ^H2428 force ^H2428 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478,

Who ^H834 are among the Canaanites ^H3669 as far ^H5704 as Zarephath ^H6886,

And the exiles ^H1546 of Jerusalem ^H3389 who ^H834 are in Sepharad ^H5614,

Will possess ^H3423 the cities ^H5892 of the Negev ^H5045.

21 And the saviors ^H3467 will ascend ^H5927 Mount ^H2022 Zion ^H6726

To judge ^H8199 the mountain ^H2022 of Esau ^H6215,

And the kingdom ^H4410 will belong to Yahweh ^H3068.
