PSALM 40

The One Who Rescues Me

For the choir director. Of David. A Psalm.

1 I hoped ^H6960 [fn]earnestly ^H6960 for Yahweh ^H3068;

And He inclined ^H5186 to me and heard ^H8085 my cry ^H7775 for ^H7775 help ^H7775.

2 He brought ^H5927 me up ^H5927 out of the pit ^H953 of destruction ^H7588, out of the [fn]miry ^H2916 clay ^H3121,

And He set ^H6965 my feet ^H7272 upon a high ^H5553 rock ^H5553, He established ^H3559 my steps ^H838.

3 He put ^H5414 a new ^H2319 song ^H7892 in my mouth ^H6310, a song ^H8416 of ^H8416 praise ^H8416 to our God ^H430;

Many ^H7227 will see ^H7200 and fear ^H3372

And will trust ^H982 in Yahweh ^H3068.

4 How blessed ^H835 is the man ^H1397 who ^H834 has made ^H7760 Yahweh ^H3068 his trust ^H4009,

And has not [fn]turned ^H6437 to the proud ^H7295, nor to those who stray ^H7750 into falsehood ^H3577.

5 Many ^H7227, O Yahweh ^H3068 my God ^H430, are the wondrous ^H6381 deeds ^H6381 You have done ^H6213,

And Your thoughts ^H4284 toward ^H413 us;

There ^H369 is ^H369 none ^H369 to compare ^H6186 with You.

I would declare ^H5046 and speak ^H1696 of them,

8 “I desire ^H2654 to do ^H6213 Your will ^H7522, O my God ^H430;

Your law ^H8451 is within ^H8432 my inner ^H4578 being ^H4578.”

9 I proclaim ^H1319 good ^H1319 news ^H1319 of righteousness ^H6664 in the great ^H7227 assembly ^H6951;

Behold ^H2009, I do not restrain ^H3607 my lips ^H8193,

O Yahweh ^H3068, You know ^H3045.

10 I do not conceal ^H3680 Your righteousness ^H6666 within ^H8432 my heart ^H3820;

I speak ^H559 of Your faithfulness ^H530 and Your salvation ^H8668;

I do not hide ^H3582 Your lovingkindness ^H2617 and Your truth ^H571 from the great ^H7227 assembly ^H6951.

11 You, O Yahweh ^H3068, will not withhold ^H3607 Your compassion ^H7356 from me;

[fn]Your lovingkindness ^H2617 and Your truth ^H571 will continually ^H8548 guard ^H5341 me.

12 For evils ^H7451 beyond ^H5704 H369 number ^H4557 have surrounded ^H661 me;

My iniquities ^H5771 have overtaken ^H5381 me, so that I am ^H3201 not able ^H3201 to see ^H7200;

Make ^H2363 haste ^H2363, O Yahweh ^H3068, to help ^H5833 me.

14 Let those be ^H954 ashamed ^H954 and humiliated ^H2659 together ^H3162

Who seek ^H1245 my [fn]life ^H5315 to sweep ^H5595 it away ^H5595;

Let those be turned ^H5472 back ^H268 and dishonored ^H3637

Who ^H2655 delight ^H2655 in [fn]evil ^H7451 against me ^H7451.

15 Let those be ^H8074 [fn]appalled ^H8074 because ^H5921 H6118 of their shame ^H1322

Who say ^H559 to me, “Aha ^H1889, aha ^H1889!”

16 Let all ^H3605 who seek ^H1245 You rejoice ^H7797 and be ^H8055 glad ^H8055 in You;

Let those who love ^H157 Your salvation ^H8668 say ^H559 continually ^H8548,

“Yahweh ^H3068 be magnified ^H1431!”

17 As for me, I am afflicted ^H6041 and needy ^H34,

[fn]May the Lord ^H136 think ^H2803 of me.

You are my help ^H5833 and the One who rescues ^H6403 me;
