Solomon and His Bride Extol Each Other
1 “[fn]Where H575 has your beloved H1730 gone H1980,
O most beautiful H3303 among women H802?
Where H575 has your beloved H1730 turned H6437,
That we may seek H1245 him with you?”
2 “[fn]My beloved H1730 has gone H3381 down H3381 to his garden H1588,
To the beds H6170 of spices H1314,
To shepherd H7462 his flock in the gardens H1588
And gather H3950 lilies H7799.
3 “I am my beloved’s H1730 and my beloved H1730 is mine,
He who shepherds H7462 his flock among the lilies H7799.”
4 “[fn]You are as beautiful H3303 as Tirzah H8656, my darling H7474,
As lovely H5000 as Jerusalem H3389,
As majestic H366 as [fn]an army H1713 with H1713 banners H1713.
5 “Turn H5437 your eyes H5869 away H5437 from me,
For they have overwhelmed H7292 me;
Your hair H8181 is like a flock H5739 of goats H5795
That have leapt H1570 down H1570 from Gilead H1568.
6 “Your teeth H8127 are like a flock H5739 of ewes H7353
Which H7945 have come H5927 up H5927 from their washing H7367,
All H3605 of which H7945 bear H8382 twins H8382,
And not H369 one H369 among them has [fn]lost H7909 her young H7909.
7 “Your temples H7541 are like a slice H6400 of a pomegranate H7416
Behind H4480 H1157 your veil H6777.
8 “There H1992 are sixty H8346 queens H4436 and eighty H8084 concubines H6370,
And [fn]maidens H5959 without H369 number H4557;
9 She is the only H259 one H259—my dove H3123, my perfect H8535 one H8535;
She is the only H259 one H259 of her mother H517;
She is the pure H1249 one H1249 of her who bore H3205 her.
The daughters H1323 saw H7200 her and called H833 her blessed H833,
The queens H4436 and the concubines H6370 also, and they praised H1984 her, saying,
10 ‘Who H4310 is this H2088 that looks H8259 down H8259 like H3644 the dawn H7837,
As beautiful H3303 as the full H3842 moon H3842,
As pure H1249 as the sun H2535,
As majestic H366 as [fn]an army H1713 with banners H1713?’
11 “[fn]I went H3381 down H3381 to the garden H1593 of nut H93 trees H93
To see H7200 the blossoms H3 of the valley H5158,
To see H7200 whether the vine H1612 had flourished H6524
Or the pomegranates H7416 had bloomed H5340.
12 “I did H3045 not know H3045 it, but my soul H5315 set H7760 me
Among the chariots H4818 of [fn]my noble H5081 people H5971.”
13 “[fn],[fn]Come H7725 back H7725, come H7725 back H7725, O Shulammite H7759;
Come H7725 back H7725, come H7725 back H7725, that we may behold H2372 you!”
“[fn]Why H4100 should you behold H2372 the Shulammite H7759,
