Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision

1 Now when Abram ^H87 was ninety-nine ^H8673 H8672 years ^H8141 old ^H1121, the LORD ^H3068 appeared ^H7200 to Abram ^H87 and said ^H559 to him,

“I am [fn]God ^H410 Almighty ^H7706;

Walk ^H1980 before ^H6440 Me, and be [fn]blameless ^H8549.

2 “I will [fn]make ^H5414 My covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 Me and you,

And I will multiply ^H7235 you exceedingly ^H3966.”

3 Abram ^H87 fell ^H5307 on his face ^H6440, and God ^H430 talked ^H1696 with him, saying ^H559,

4 “As for Me, behold ^H2009, My covenant ^H1285 is with you,

And you will be the father ^H1 of a multitude ^H1995 of nations ^H1471.

5 “No ^H3808 longer ^H5750 shall you be named ^H7121 H8034 [fn]Abram ^H87,

But your name ^H8034 shall be [fn]Abraham ^H85;

For I have made ^H5414 you the father ^H1 of a multitude ^H1995 of nations ^H1471.

6 I will make ^H6509 you exceedingly ^H3966 fruitful ^H6509, and I will make ^H5414 nations ^H1471 of you, and kings ^H4428 will come ^H3318 from you.

7 I will establish ^H6965 My covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 Me and you and your [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 you throughout their generations ^H1755 as an everlasting ^H5769 covenant ^H1285, to be God ^H430 to you and to your [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 you. 8 And I will give ^H5414 to you and to your [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 you the land ^H776 where ^H4033 you live ^H4033 as ^H4033 a ^H4033 stranger ^H4033, all ^H3605 the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667, as an everlasting ^H5769 possession ^H272; and I will be their God ^H430.”

9 God ^H430 said ^H559 further to Abraham ^H85, “Now as for you, you shall keep ^H8104 My covenant ^H1285, you and your [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 you throughout their generations ^H1755. 10 This ^H2088 is My covenant ^H1285, which ^H834 you shall keep ^H8104, between ^H996 Me and you and your [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 you: every ^H3605 male ^H2145 among you shall be circumcised ^H4135. 11 And you shall be circumcised ^H4135 in the flesh ^H1320 of your foreskin ^H6190, and it shall be the sign ^H226 of the covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 Me and you. 12 And every ^H3605 male ^H2145 among you who is eight ^H8083 days ^H3117 old ^H1121 shall be circumcised ^H4135 throughout your generations ^H1755, including a slave ^H3211 who is born ^H3211 in the house ^H1004 or who is bought ^H4736 with money ^H3701 from any ^H3605 foreigner ^H1121 H5236, who ^H834 is not of your [fn]descendants ^H2233. 13 A slave ^H3211 who is born ^H3211 in your house ^H1004 or who is bought ^H4736 with your money ^H3701 shall certainly ^H4135 be circumcised ^H4135; so My covenant ^H1285 shall be in your flesh ^H1320 as an everlasting ^H5769 covenant ^H1285. 14 But as for an uncircumcised ^H6189 male ^H2145, one who ^H834 is not circumcised ^H4135 in the flesh ^H1320 of his foreskin ^H6190, that person ^H5315 shall be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 from his people ^H5971; he has broken ^H6565 My covenant ^H1285.”

15 Then God ^H430 said ^H559 to Abraham ^H85, “As for your wife ^H802 Sarai ^H8297, you shall not call ^H7121 her by the name ^H8034 [fn]Sarai ^H8297, but [fn]Sarah ^H8283 shall be her name ^H8034. 16 I will bless ^H1288 her, and indeed ^H1571 I will give ^H5414 you a son ^H1121 by her. Then I will bless ^H1288 her, and she shall be a mother of nations ^H1471; kings ^H4428 of peoples ^H5971 will [fn]come ^H1961 from her.” 17 Then Abraham ^H85 fell ^H5307 on his face ^H6440 and laughed ^H6711, and said ^H559 in his heart ^H3820, “Will a child be born ^H3205 to a man ^H1121 a hundred ^H3967 years ^H8141 old ^H1121? And will Sarah ^H8283, who is ninety ^H8673 years ^H8141 old ^H1323, give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to a child?” 18 And Abraham ^H85 said ^H559 to God ^H430, “Oh ^H3863 that Ishmael ^H3458 might live ^H2421 before ^H6440 You!” 19 But God ^H430 said ^H559, “No ^H61, but your wife ^H802 Sarah ^H8283 will bear ^H3205 you a son ^H1121, and you shall name ^H7121 H8034 him [fn]Isaac ^H3327; and I will establish ^H6965 My covenant ^H1285 with him as an everlasting ^H5769 covenant ^H1285 for his [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 him. 20 As for Ishmael ^H3458, I have heard ^H8085 you; behold ^H2009, I will bless ^H1288 him, and make ^H6509 him fruitful ^H6509 and multiply ^H7235 him exceedingly ^H3966. He shall father ^H3205 twelve ^H8147 H6240 princes ^H5387, and I will make ^H5414 him into a great ^H1419 nation ^H1471. 21 But I will establish ^H6965 My covenant ^H1285 with Isaac ^H3327, whom ^H834 Sarah ^H8283 will bear ^H3205 to you at this ^H2088 season ^H4150 next ^H312 year ^H8141.” 22 When He finished ^H3615 talking ^H1696 with him, God ^H430 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 from Abraham ^H85.

23 Then Abraham ^H85 took ^H3947 his son ^H1121 Ishmael ^H3458, and all ^H3605 the slaves who were born ^H3211 in his house ^H1004 and all ^H3605 who were bought ^H4736 with his money ^H3701, every ^H3605 male ^H2145 among the men ^H376 of Abraham’s ^H85 household ^H1004, and circumcised ^H4135 the flesh ^H1320 of their foreskin ^H6190 on this ^H2088 very ^H6106 same ^H6106 day ^H3117, as God ^H430 had said ^H1696 to him. 24 Now Abraham ^H85 was ninety-nine ^H8673 H8672 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 when he was circumcised ^H4135 in the flesh ^H1320 of his foreskin ^H6190. 25 And his son ^H1121 Ishmael ^H3458 was thirteen ^H7969 H6240 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 when he was circumcised ^H4135 in the flesh ^H1320 of his foreskin ^H6190. 26 On this ^H2088 very ^H6106 same ^H6106 day ^H3117 Abraham ^H85 was circumcised ^H4135, as well as his son ^H1121 Ishmael ^H3458. 27 And all ^H3605 the men ^H376 of his household ^H1004, those who were born ^H3211 in the house ^H1004 or bought ^H4736 with money ^H3701 from a foreigner ^H1121 H5236, were circumcised ^H4135 with him.
