The Resurrection

1 But on the first ^G1520 day of the week ^G4521, at early ^G901 dawn ^G3722, they came ^G2064 to the tomb ^G3418 bringing ^G5342 the spices ^G759 which ^G3739 they had prepared ^G2090.

2 And they found ^G2147 the stone ^G3037 rolled ^G617 away ^G617 from the tomb ^G3419, 3 but when they entered ^G1525, they did not find ^G2147 the body ^G4983 of the Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424. 4 While ^G1722 they were perplexed ^G639 about ^G4012 this ^G3778, behold ^G2400, two ^G1417 men ^G435 suddenly stood ^G2186 near ^G2186 them in gleaming ^G797 clothing ^G2066; 5 and as [fn]the women were terrified ^G1719 and bowed ^G2827 their faces ^G4383 to the ground ^G1093, the men said ^G3004 to them, “Why ^G5101 are you seeking ^G2212 the living ^G2198 One among ^G3326 the dead ^G3498? 6 He is not here ^G5602, but He has [fn]risen ^G1453. Remember ^G3403 how ^G5613 He spoke ^G2980 to you while He was still ^G2089 in Galilee ^G1056, 7 saying ^G3004 that the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 must ^G1163 be handed ^G3860 G5495 over ^G3860 to sinful ^G268 men ^G444, and be crucified ^G4717, and on the third ^G5154 day ^G2250 rise ^G450 from the dead.” 8 And they remembered ^G3403 His words ^G4487, 9 and returned ^G5290 from the tomb ^G3419 and reported ^G518 all ^G3956 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 to the eleven ^G1733, and to all ^G3956 the rest ^G3062. 10 Now ^G1161 these women were Mary ^G3137 Magdalene ^G3094, Joanna ^G2489, and Mary ^G3137 the mother of James ^G2385; also ^G2532 the other ^G3062 women ^G3062 with them were telling ^G3004 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 to the apostles ^G652. 11 But these ^G3778 words ^G4487 appeared ^G5316 [fn]to them as nonsense ^G3026, and they would not ^G569 believe ^G569 [fn]the women. 12 Nevertheless ^G1161, Peter ^G4074 got ^G450 up ^G450 and ran ^G5143 to the tomb ^G3419; and when he stooped ^G3879 and ^G3879 looked ^G3879 in, he *saw ^G991 the linen ^G3608 wrappings ^G3608 [fn]only ^G3441; and he went ^G565 away ^G565 to his [fn]home ^G848, marveling ^G2296 at what ^G3588 had happened ^G1096.

The Road to Emmaus

13 And behold ^G2400, on that very ^G846 day ^G2250 two ^G1417 of them were going ^G4198 to a village ^G2968 named ^G3686 Emmaus ^G1695, which was [fn]sixty ^G1835 stadia ^G4712 from Jerusalem ^G2419.

14 And they were talking ^G3656 with each ^G240 other ^G240 about ^G4012 all ^G3956 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 which had taken ^G4819 place ^G4819. 15 While ^G1722 they were talking ^G3656 and discussing ^G4802, Jesus ^G2424 Himself ^G846 approached ^G1448 and began traveling ^G4848 with them. 16 But their eyes ^G3788 were kept ^G2902 from recognizing ^G1921 Him. 17 And He said ^G3004 to them, “What ^G5101 are these ^G3778 words ^G3056 that you are exchanging ^G474 with one ^G240 another ^G240 as you are walking ^G4043?” And they came ^G2476 to ^G2476 a ^G2476 stop ^G2476, looking ^G4659 sad ^G4659. 18 One ^G1520 of them, named ^G3686 Cleopas ^G2810, answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to Him, “Are You possibly the only ^G3441 one ^G3441 living ^G3939 near ^G3939 Jerusalem ^G2419 [fn]who does not know ^G1097 about the things that happened ^G1096 here ^G1722 G846 in these ^G3778 days ^G2250?” 19 And He said ^G3004 to them, “What ^G4169 sort ^G4169 of ^G4169 things ^G4169?” And they said ^G3004 to Him, “Those ^G3588 about ^G4012 Jesus ^G2424 the Nazarene ^G3479, who ^G3739 proved ^G1096 to be a prophet ^G4396 mighty ^G1415 in deed ^G2041 and word ^G3056 in ^G1726 the ^G1726 sight ^G1726 of God ^G2316 and all ^G3956 the people ^G2992, 20 and how ^G3704 the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and our rulers ^G758 handed ^G3860 Him over ^G3860 to be sentenced ^G2917 to death ^G2288, and crucified ^G4717 Him. 21 But we [fn]were hoping ^G1679 that it was He who was ^G3195 going ^G3195 to ^G3195 redeem ^G3084 Israel ^G2474. Indeed ^G235, besides ^G2532 G4862 all ^G3956 this ^G3778, it is now the third ^G5154 day ^G2250 since ^G575 G3739 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 happened ^G1096. 22 But also ^G2532 some ^G5100 women ^G1135 among ^G1537 us left ^G1839 us bewildered ^G1839. When they were at the tomb ^G3419 early ^G3720 in ^G3720 the ^G3720 morning ^G3720, 23 and did not find ^G2147 His body ^G4983, they came ^G2064, saying ^G3004 that they had also ^G2532 seen ^G3708 a vision ^G3701 of angels ^G32 who ^G3739 said ^G3004 that He was ^G2198 alive ^G2198. 24 And so some ^G5100 of those ^G3588 who were with us went ^G565 to the tomb ^G3419, and found ^G2147 it just ^G2531 exactly ^G3779 as ^G2531 the women ^G1135 also ^G2532 had said ^G3004; but Him they did not see ^G3708.” 25 And then He said ^G3004 to them, “[fn]You foolish ^G453 men ^G453 and slow ^G1021 of heart ^G2588 to believe ^G4100 in all ^G3956 that the prophets ^G4396 have spoken ^G2980! 26 Was it not necessary ^G1163 for the [fn]Christ ^G5547 to suffer ^G3958 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 and to come ^G1525 into ^G1525 His glory ^G1391?” 27 Then ^G2532 beginning ^G757 [fn]with Moses ^G3475 and [fn]with all ^G3956 the Prophets ^G4396, He explained ^G1329 to them the things written about ^G4012 Himself ^G1438 in all ^G3956 the Scriptures ^G1124.

28 And they approached ^G1448 the village ^G2968 where ^G3757 they were going ^G4198, and He gave ^G4364 the ^G4364 impression ^G4364 that He was going ^G4198 farther ^G4206. 29 And so they strongly ^G3849 urged ^G3849 Him, saying ^G3004, “Stay ^G3306 with us, for it is getting toward ^G4314 evening ^G2073, and the day ^G2250 [fn]is now ^G2235 nearly ^G2827 over ^G2827.” So ^G2532 He went ^G1525 in ^G1525 to stay ^G3306 with them. 30 And it came ^G1096 about ^G1096, when ^G1722 He had reclined ^G2625 at the table with them, that He took ^G2983 the bread ^G740 and blessed ^G2127 it, and He broke ^G2806 it and began giving ^G1929 it to them. 31 And then their eyes ^G3788 were opened ^G1272 and they recognized ^G1921 Him; and He vanished ^G855 from [fn]their sight ^G846. 32 They said ^G3004 to one ^G240 another ^G240, “[fn]Were our hearts ^G2588 not burning ^G2545 within ^G1722 us when ^G5613 He was speaking ^G2980 to us on the road ^G3598, while ^G5613 He was [fn]explaining ^G1272 the Scriptures ^G1124 to us?” 33 And they got ^G450 up ^G450 that very ^G846 hour ^G5610 and returned ^G5290 to Jerusalem ^G2419, and found ^G2147 the eleven ^G1733 gathered ^G6003 together ^G6003 and those ^G3588 who ^G3588 were with them, 34 saying ^G3004, “The Lord ^G2962 has really ^G3689 risen ^G1453 and has appeared ^G3708 to Simon ^G4613!” 35 They began to relate ^G1834 [fn]their experiences ^G3588 on the road ^G3598, and how ^G5613 He was recognized ^G1097 by them at the breaking ^G2800 of the bread ^G740.

Other Appearances

36 Now ^G1161 while they were telling ^G2980 these ^G3778 things ^G3778, Jesus Himself ^G846 suddenly stood ^G2476 in their midst ^G3319 and *said ^G3004 to them, “Peace ^G1515 be to you.”

37 But they were startled ^G4422 and frightened ^G1719, and thought ^G1380 that they were looking ^G2334 at a spirit ^G4151. 38 And He said ^G3004 to them, “Why ^G5101 are you frightened ^G5015, and why ^G1223 G5101 are doubts ^G1261 arising ^G305 in your [fn]hearts ^G2588? 39 See ^G3708 My hands ^G5495 and My feet ^G4228, that [fn]it is I Myself ^G846; touch ^G5584 Me and see ^G3708, because ^G3754 a spirit ^G4151 does not have ^G2192 flesh ^G4561 and bones ^G3747 as you plainly see ^G2334 that I have ^G2192.” 40 And when He had said ^G3004 this ^G3778, He showed ^G1166 them His hands ^G5495 and His feet ^G4228. 41 While they still ^G2089 [fn]could not ^G569 believe ^G569 it because ^G575 of their joy ^G5479 and astonishment ^G2296, He said ^G3004 to them, “Have ^G2192 you anything ^G5100 here ^G1759 to ^G1034 eat ^G1034?” 42 They served ^G1929 Him a piece ^G3313 of broiled ^G3702 fish ^G2486; 43 and He took ^G2983 it and ate ^G2068 it in ^G1799 front ^G1799 of ^G1799 them.

44 Now ^G1161 He said ^G3004 to them, “These ^G3778 are My words ^G3056 which ^G3739 I spoke ^G2980 to you while I was still ^G2089 with you, that all ^G3956 the things ^G3956 that are written ^G1125 about ^G4012 Me in the Law ^G3551 of Moses ^G3475 and the Prophets ^G4396 and the Psalms ^G5568 must ^G1163 be fulfilled ^G4137.” 45 Then ^G5119 He opened ^G1272 their [fn]minds ^G3563 to understand ^G4920 the Scriptures ^G1124, 46 and He said ^G3004 to them, “So ^G3779 it is written ^G1125, that the [fn]Christ ^G5547 would suffer ^G3958 and rise ^G450 from the dead ^G3498 on the third ^G5154 day ^G2250, 47 and that repentance ^G3341 [fn]for forgiveness ^G859 of sins ^G266 would be proclaimed ^G2784 [fn]in His name ^G3686 to all ^G3956 the nations ^G1484, beginning ^G757 from Jerusalem ^G2419. 48 You are witnesses ^G3144 of these ^G3778 things ^G3778. 49 And behold ^G2400, I am sending ^G1821 the promise ^G1860 of My Father ^G3962 upon you; but you are to stay ^G2523 in the city ^G4172 until ^G2193 you are clothed ^G1746 with power ^G1411 from on high ^G5311.”

The Ascension

50 And He led ^G1806 them out ^G1806 as ^G2193 far ^G2193 as ^G2193 Bethany ^G963, and He lifted ^G1869 up ^G1869 His hands ^G5495 and blessed ^G2127 them.

51 While ^G1722 He was blessing ^G2127 them, He parted ^G1339 from them and was carried ^G399 up ^G399 into heaven ^G3772. 52 And they, after worshiping ^G4352 Him, returned ^G5290 to Jerusalem ^G2419 with great ^G3173 joy ^G5479, 53 and were continually ^G1223 G3956 in the temple ^G2413 [fn]praising ^G2127 God ^G2316.
