Hazel:
Heb. luz, (Gen 30:37), a nutbearing tree. The Hebrew word is rendered in the Vulgate by amygdalinus, "the almond-tree," which is probably correct. That tree flourishes in Syria.
Hazel:
The Hebrew term luz occurs only in Genesis 30:37. Authorities are divided between the hazel and the almond tree as representing the luz. The latter is most probably correct.
