Below are articles from the following dictionary:
Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words
1 Strong's Number: g480 Greek: antikeimai

Oppose:

See ADVERSARY, B.

2 Strong's Number: g498 Greek: antitasso

Oppose:

is used in the Middle Voice in the sense of setting oneself against (anti, "against," tasso, "to order, set"), "opposing oneself to," Act 18:6; elsewhere rendered by the verb "to resist," Rom 13:2; Jam 4:6; 5:6; 1Pe 5:5.
See RESIST.

3 Strong's Number: g475 Greek: antidiatithemi

Oppose:

signifies "to place oneself in opposition, oppose" (anti, "against," dia, "through," intensive, tithemi, "to place"), 2Ti 2:25. The AV and RV translate this as a Middle Voice, "them (AV, 'those') that oppose themselves." Field (Notes on the Trans. of the NT) points out that in the only other known instance of the verb it is Passive. The sense is practically the same if it is rendered "those who are opposed."

CONTENT DISCLAIMER:

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
