Renounce: To Disown.

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have RENOUNCED the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. (2 Corinthians 4:1-2)

Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words
1 Strong's Number: g550 Greek: apeipon

Renounce:

lit., "to tell from" (apo, "from," eipon, an aorist form used to supply parts of lego, "to say"), signifies "to renounce," 2Cr 4:2 (Middle Voice), of disowning "the hidden things of shame." In the Sept. of 1Ki 11:2 it signifies "to forbid," a meaning found in the papyri. The meaning "to renounce" may therefore carry with it the thought of forbidding the approach of the things disowned.

2 Strong's Number: g657 Greek: apotasso

Renounce:

"to set apart, to appoint," a meaning found in the papyri (apo, "from", tasso, "to arrange"), is used in the Middle Voice in the sense either of "taking leave of," e.g., Act 18:18, or "forsaking," Luk 14:33, RV, "renounceth" (AV "forsaketh").
