Abishag:
a beautiful Shunammite (from Shunem, in the tribe of Issachar) taken into David's harem to comfort him in his extreme old age (1 Kings 1:1-4). After David's death Adonijah induced Bathsheba, the queen‐mother, to ask Solomon to give him Abishag in marriage; but this imprudent petition cost Adonijah his life (1 Kings 2:13, etc.). SEE [ADONIJAH].
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
