Gilboa:
(a bubbling spring). a mountain range on the eastern side of the plain of Esdraelon, rising over the city of Jezreel (compare 1 Samuel 28:4 with 1 Samuel 29:1). It is mentioned in Scripture only in connection with one event in Israelitish history, the defeat and death of Saul and Jonathan by the Philistines (1 Samuel 31:11; 2 Samuel 1:6; 21:12; 1 Chronicles 10:1; 10:8). Of the identity of Gilboa with the ridge which stretches eastward from the ruins of Jezreel no doubt can be entertained. The village is now called Jelbou.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
