"to stay, abide," is frequently rendered "to remain," e.g., Mat 11:23; Luk 10:7; Jhn 1:33, AV (RV, "abiding"); 9:41 (in 15:11, the best texts have the verb to be, see RV); 15:16, AV (RV, "abide"); 19:31; Act 5:4 (twice), RV, "whiles it remained, did it (not) remain (thine own)?;" 27:41; 1Cr 7:11; 15:6; 2Cr 3:11, 14; 9:9, AV (RV, "abideth"); Hbr 12:27; 1Jo 3:9.

Remain:

"to remain throughout" (dia, "through," and No. 1), is translated "to remain" in Luk 1:22; Hbr 1:11, AV (RV, "Thou continuest").

in the Passive Voice, "to be reserved, to remain," is translated "remaineth" in Hbr 4:6, 9; 10:26.

"to leave over," used in the Middle Voice, is translated "remain" in 1Th 4:15, 17, AV (RV, "are left"), where it stands for the living believers at the coming (the beginning of the Parousia) of Christ.

Remain:

(1) In Mar 8:8, perisseuma, "an abundance," is used in the plural, RV, "(of broken pieces) that remained over" (AV "that was left").

(2) In 1Cr 7:29, AV, to loipon, lit., "(as to) what is left," "(as for) the rest," is translated "it remaineth" (RV, "henceforth"); in Rev 3:2, ta loipa, the plural, "the things that remain."
