“What was the outcome? Tell me,” David asked him.

“The troops fled from the battle,” he answered. “Many of the troops have fallen and are dead. Also, Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.”

“What happened?” David demanded. “Tell me how the battle went.”
The man replied, “Our entire army fled from the battle. Many of the men are dead, and Saul and his son Jonathan are also dead.”

וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו דָּוִד מֶה־הָיָה הַדָּבָר הַגֶּד־נָא לִי וַיֹּאמֶר אֲשֶׁר־נָס הָעָם מִן־הַמִּלְחָמָה וְגַם־הַרְבֵּה נָפַל מִן־הָעָם וַיָּמֻתוּ וְגַם שָׁאוּל וִיהֹונָתָן בְּנֹו מֵתוּ׃

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δαυιδ τίς λόγος οὗτος ἀπάγγειλόν μοι καὶ εἶπεν ὅτι ἔφυγεν λαὸς ἐκ τοῦ πολέμου καὶ πεπτώκασι πολλοὶ ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἀπέθανον καὶ ἀπέθανεν καὶ Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπέθανεν

فَقَالَ لَهُ دَاوُدُ: «كَيْفَ كَانَ الأَمْرُ؟ أَخْبِرْنِي». فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ الشَّعْبَ قَدْ هَرَبَ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ، وَسَقَطَ أَيْضًا كَثِيرُونَ مِنَ الشَّعْبِ وَمَاتُوا، وَمَاتَ شَاوُلُ وَيُونَاثَانُ ابْنُهُ أَيْضًا».
