“In any case of wrongdoing involving an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or anything else lost, and someone claims, ‘That’s mine,’[fn] the case between the two parties is to come before the judges.[fn] The one the judges condemn[fn] must repay double to his neighbor.
فِي كُلِّ دَعْوَى جِنَايَةٍ، مِنْ جِهَةِ ثَوْرٍ أَوْ حِمَارٍ أَوْ شَاةٍ أَوْ ثَوْبٍ أَوْ مَفْقُودٍ مَا، يُقَالُ: إِنَّ هذَا هُوَ، تُقَدَّمُ إِلَى اللهِ دَعْوَاهُمَا. فَالَّذِي يَحْكُمُ اللهُ بِذَنْبِهِ، يُعَوِّضُ صَاحِبَهُ بِاثْنَيْنِ.
