But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”

But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out.”

فَاحْتَجَّ بَولُسُ قَائِلاً: «جَلَدُونَا أَمَامَ النَّاسِ بِغَيْرِ مُحَاكَمَةٍ، مَعَ أَنَّنَا نَحْمِلُ الْجِنْسِيَّةَ الرُّومَانِيَّةَ، وَزَجُّوا بِنَا فِي السِّجْنِ. فَكَيْفَ يُطْلِقُونَ سَرَاحَنَا الآنَ سِرّاً! كَلَّا! بَلْ لِيَأْتُوا هُمْ وَيُطْلِقُوا سَرَاحَنَا!»

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ بُولُسُ:«ضَرَبُونَا جَهْرًا غَيْرَ مَقْضِيٍّ عَلَيْنَا، وَنَحْنُ رَجُلاَنِ رُومَانِيَّانِ، وَأَلْقَوْنَا فِي السِّجْنِ. أَفَالآنَ يَطْرُدُونَنَا سِرًّا؟ كَلاَّ! بَلْ لِيَأْتُوا هُمْ أَنْفُسُهُمْ وَيُخْرِجُونَا».
